68 surfing through hyperspace
One of the Secret Service agents looks at you. "Who the hell are you?"
You reach into your pocket and withdraw your badge. "FBI."
The president screams as his hand disappears.
"Get some rope," you scream to the Secret Service agents. "We've got
to anchor him in our world. Right now an Omegamorph is trying to pull
him into the fourth dimension."
The nearest Secret Service agent looks at you. "Are you some kind of
nut?"
Sally withdraws her FBI badge and points her service revolver at the
undulating bags of flesh. "Listen to him. He knows what he's talking
about."
One of the agents dashes into a storage closet and brings out a thick
rope. "Is this good enough?"
You grab the rope, rush toward the president, and quickly loop the
rope around his ankle. "Sally, quick, tie the other end to the bust."
She nods and swiftly attaches the rope's other end to a huge bronze
bust of Abraham Lincoln.
The president's arm disappears. "What do they want with me?"
You try to hold on to the president. "Sir, we're in a region of space
where it's easy to peel people from the local 3-D space."
The president screams as his head disappears, then his chest and legs.
The only part of his body you see is his foot, tied to the rope, and floating
several inches off the ground. His disembodied foot dances and
finally slips out of the knot.
"No!" Sally yells.
You slowly shake your head as a tear forms in your eye.
The president of the United States has been abducted upsilon into
hyperspace.
The Science Behind the Science Fiction
