New York. Dover. A mysterious green powder blows a young chemistry<br />

teacher named Plattner into the fourth dimension. Naturally, the students<br />

in the classroom are shocked to find that, when the smoke clears from the<br />

explosion, Plattner is gone. There is no sign of him anywhere. The school's<br />

principal has no explanation. During the nine days in four-space, Plattner<br />

sees a large green sun and unearthly inhabitants. When Plattner returns to<br />

our world, his body is reversed. His heart is now on the right and he writes<br />

mirror script with his left hand. It turns out that the quiet, drifting creatures<br />

in Wells's; four-space are the souls of those who once lived on Earth.
