This Year’s Guests - 19 Governors Elect and Spouses<br />
The Program<br />
For the past 39 years Brighton Rotary Club and <strong>District</strong> <strong>7120</strong> have home hosted over 461 Governors Elect and their spouses<br />
<strong>from</strong> 37 countries worldwide. The idea for the program was conceived in 1969 by PDG Milt Matthews, and has been copied by<br />
many other <strong>District</strong>s throughout the United States.<br />
Each Governor Elect guest is assigned two Rotary hosts. Their first host meets them at the airport on arrival and takes them to<br />
their home. In the middle of the stay, everyone meets at Brighton Rotary Club’s Exchange Dinner. All the hosts and guests have<br />
the opportunity to get acquainted and share Rotary experiences. When the meeting is over the guests leave with their second host<br />
for the balance of their stay.<br />

Exhibition in Salt Lake City. Our booth is #2408 and will be located in the House of<br />
Friendship.<br />
Exhibit hours are Saturday 16 June through Wednesday 20 June <strong>from</strong> 1200 to 1800<br />
hours. Come and see us. Meet your alumni. Meet your hosts <strong>from</strong> <strong>7120</strong>. Come early so<br />
we can plan an alumni get together. Don’t wait till the last day.<br />

Dear Pete,<br />
I have been a Rotarian since 1963 and have 38 years of perfect<br />
attendance (bona fide-no phony substitutes). I have<br />
attended several <strong>District</strong> conferences and hosted PDG Andy<br />
Haynes conference in 1967 while serving as President of the<br />
Clifton Springs Rotary Club. All of these pale and become<br />
mere shadows of the past when compared to the most<br />
memorable Rotary experience of my lifetime now that I<br />
have experienced the joy of participating in the Milt Matthews<br />
Host Program.<br />
I'm sure it was the "luck of the draw", but there could never<br />
have been a more perfect match than you made by allowing<br />
Hellon and I to host DGE John Dumbrell and his lovely wife<br />
Jean.<br />
If we live long enough, both Hellon and I look forward to<br />
visiting John and Jean at their home on the Thames River.<br />
God willing, we both<br />
hope to be able to<br />
participate in this<br />

Zealand: Rex and Jo Morris<br />
never have snow on the ground<br />
at home. To see snow, they have<br />
to travel to their Southern Alps.<br />
So they were quite excited to<br />
experience our pretty snowfalls<br />

We traveled to Charlotte, Ontario<br />
Beach Park, one day, and walked on the snow-covered sand at the<br />
beach; and another day, we took photos of the ice blocks on Canandaigua<br />
Lake and the frozen waves at Conesus. Rex learned two<br />
new skills while he was here: brushing snow off the car, and shoveling<br />
snow <strong>from</strong> the sidewalk. Unfortunately, he will not have a<br />
chance to practice at home.<br />
They were also fascinated by squirrels in our backyard, as there are<br />
no squirrels in New Zealand. Needless to say, they did not attempt<br />
to introduce the species to Nelson.<br />
Our Rotary Club in Avon had a welcome get-together at my home<br />
on Monday, January 22, for Rex and Jo, and we were delighted that<br />
DG Jim and Jane Holden were able to join us, and to bring their<br />
guests, Sumo and Sola Omoniyi, <strong>from</strong> Nigeria. As our prez, Jim<br />
Tompsett, said, "This certainly<br />
proves the "International" aspect<br />
of RI: where else can members<br />
meet and chat with visitors <strong>from</strong><br />
two such widely-separated countries,<br />
and experience their cultures,<br />

I’ve had the wonderful opportunity to chair this program for the last twelve years and now<br />
it’s time for others to take the reign. Ernie Bullock, a long time host and active member of the<br />
committee for many years has volunteered to take charge. I’ll be here, to help, to host, to take<br />
pictures, and do the newsletter.<br />
Thanks to Chuck Chapin my predecessor who ran the program for four years before I took<br />
charge, to Peter Runke, Chuck’s predecessor and to our founder Milt Matthews for running<br />
this program for those many years. Thanks, to all the <strong>District</strong> <strong>7120</strong> hosts for opening their<br />
homes and their hearts to make this the best hospitality program in the Rotary world.<br />
Elaine & I have gained wonderful friends around the world, have visited their countries,<br />
stayed in their homes. It’s an honor and a privilege to be a part of the Rotary family.<br />
