CHAPTER NINE<br />

DEMONIC EVOCATION <br />

The art of ritual evocation ranks among the most adept<br />

practices of the Master of Black Magick. It is that secret science that<br />

once learned unlocks doors to limitless potential and possibility. Being<br />

thus educated and experienced in the nature, power, and presence of<br />

demonic entities, the student of the Dark Arts can barely fathom holding<br />

in his very hands the instructions and the ability that will bring these<br />

wicked beings into full manifestation before him, to serve him and to be<br />

served, to pave the roads of the sulfur kingdom here on earth.<br />

Demons, as well as spirits, angels, elementals, pla<strong>net</strong>ary<br />

intelligences, and godforms, exist independent of the subject's belief in<br />

them. This metaphysical fact makes the evocation of such beings both<br />

one of the most potent occult practices, and one of the most dangerous.<br />

Summoning to manifestation the demons of his desire to go forth into<br />

the world and to ravage it as directed by the Black Magician draws a<br />

firm line between being a soldier of Darkness, and being Hell's own<br />

warlord.<br />

Demons are intelligent, as has been more than alluded to<br />

previously, and they are more powerful than they will ever allow a<br />

human to see. The Evocator should not for one moment believe that<br />

they are under his power, yet at the same time should never allow the<br />

thought to surface that he is under theirs. Because they are beings that<br />

subsist independent of the will of the Sorcerer, demons have "a will of<br />

their own." From the moment they appear, either in the mirror or in<br />

the Temple, they begin to search the angles; they begin to find<br />

weaknesses in the Magician, in the rituals and incantations, in the<br />

environment, and in the totality of existence. They scheme in their<br />

immortal minds as to the manner in which they may manipulate not<br />

only the evocation and the magician, but the balance of the universe<br />

and the scales of Fate.<br />

The supreme key in the evocation of demons is to scheme with<br />

them. They are not and never will be the servants of the Black Magician.<br />

but they are the servants of Darkness itself, and in this Darkness in<br />
