Donors Support Mobile Adoptions Program
Thanks to the Ellen Browning Scripps Foundation and Pilar and Chuck Bahde
More than 10 times each month, our Mobile Adoptions staff and
volunteers load up adoptable pets and supplies into a recreational
vehicle specially equipped to safely transport animals. The program
goes to shopping malls, community fairs, and other locations to promote the
San Diego Humane Society’s programs and services. At these events, the
San Diego Humane Society also brings a variety of animals out of the shelter
and into the neighborhoods for on-site adoptions, and nearly 15 percent of
San Diego Humane Society adoptions each year come from Mobile events!
Through the wonderful support of some very kind-hearted donors, the
program recently received a big boost in funding. The San Diego Humane
Society would like to offer heartfelt thanks to the Ellen Browning Scripps
Foundation for its generous grant of $25,000, as well as a contribution of
stock valued at just over $29,000 given by longtime supporters Pilar and
Chuck Bahde.
These special gifts go a long way in ensuring the program’s continued
service of bringing adoptable pets to the community, but your donation towards
the remaining $20,000 required to fully fund this program throughout the year

Meow Madness: A Cat-tastic Event!
Cat lovers from around the county turned out for the San
Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s annual feline focused
adoptathon. Held on Saturday, June 7 from 9:30 a.m. to
7 p.m., Meow Madness transformed our campus into cat central.
As part of the festivities, our Feline Fun Fair featured booths
with helpful information from the Feral Cat Coalition and the
San Diego Humane Society and SPCA’s Animal Rescue Reserve,
and Outback Barney showcased his magnificent cat hotels. The
celebration was topped off with ice cream courtesy of Ben and
Jerry’s Horton Plaza location, and the Petco Foundation
generously provided fabulous prizes for attendees.
Meow Madness resulted in a total of 35 adoptions
for the weekend and another 89 adoptions during
the rest of the month for a total of 124 felines finding
new homes in June! We extend a very warm thank
you to all the attendees, volunteers and sponsors that
made Meow Madness possible. Be sure to mark your
calendars for our next adoption event, Barktoberfest, on
October 11, where our lovable pups will get their turn in
the spotlight!
