The Conference on IFRS deliberated on how to increase<br />

awareness and understanding of the state of IFRS<br />

transition in India and the related challenges. The<br />

conference also elaborated on the IFRS roadmap<br />

and the related clarifications issued by the Ministry of<br />

Corporate Affairs, practical challenges on first time use<br />

of IFRS in India, potential challenges and solutions in<br />

the convergence process and knowledge sharing on<br />

practical application of IFRS.<br />

At the 4th TQM Forum meeting, Mr. Kurien Mathew, Addl.<br />

General Manager, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, gave<br />

an informative presentation on ‘Lean Manufacturing.’ Ms.<br />

Padmaja, CEO – MSW, Ramky, gave a presentation on<br />

‘Emerging Technologies in Waste Minimisation.’<br />

<strong>CII</strong> - Wolverhampton MoU<br />

Simon Warren, Chief Executive, Wolverhampton City Council;<br />

Aroon Raman, Chairman, <strong>CII</strong> Karnataka; and Prof Richard Hall,<br />

Associate Dean and Prof of Engineering Design & Simulation,<br />

University of Wolverhampton, UK<br />

A MoU was signed by <strong>CII</strong>, the Wolverhampton City<br />

Council and the University of Wolverhampton to assist<br />

each other in the promotion and development of<br />

business opportunities, as well as overseas investment,<br />

between India and UK.<br />

Programme on Social Entrepreneurship<br />

The programme on Working with Not For Profit provided<br />

a platform for people keen to explore the area of social<br />

entrepreneurship but unsure of how to get started, and<br />

discussed the choice between not for profit as a career<br />

and volunteerism.<br />

Session on Debt Financing: Issues & Options<br />

11 November, Bangalore<br />

The meeting on Debt Financing: Issues and Options<br />

was addressed by Mr Dogra, Managing Director, CARE<br />

who gave an overview of debt financing and rating of<br />

corporate debt. Issues and available options for those<br />

who are keen to explore the area of borrowing from a<br />

source outside the company were also explored.<br />

<strong>CII</strong> Best HR Project Award<br />

12 November, Bangalore<br />

The HR competition provided a unique opportunity to<br />

budding HR aspirants to demonstrate and sharpen<br />

their knowledge and acumen in HR. This also gave<br />

them wide exposure to the industry and possibly their<br />

future employers.<br />

The meeting with the visiting Lithuanian business<br />

delegation provided first-hand information on the current<br />

Interaction with Management Guru<br />

23 November, Chennai<br />

Author and management expert Mr Gurcharan Das<br />

addressed a meeting on his book ‘The difficulty of Being<br />

Good: On the Subtle Art of Dharma’. Interacting with<br />

participants on the theme of his book, Mr Das dwelled<br />

upon the goal of dharma moral well being. The author<br />

gave various examples from the epic Mahabharata which<br />

contradicts the motive of dharma.<br />
