Blackboard.’ To commemorate Yi National Education<br />

Day on 14 November, it was decided to roll out<br />

Operation Blackboard nationally amongst government<br />

and underprivileged schools across chapters. Yi Delhi<br />

launched ‘Operation Blackboard’ at its Akshara Centre at<br />

Chaman, New Delhi. Chaman is a literacy and recreation<br />

centre for underprivileged children, towards education,<br />

healthcare and general awareness. Marking the launch,<br />

Yi installed a whiteboard at Chaman.<br />

Goa<br />

On 11 November, Yi Goa organised a Session on Goods<br />

& Services Tax by Mr. Vallabh Kamat, Commissioner,<br />

Commercial Taxes, Goa. Mr. Kamat discussed the various<br />

benefits of GST and how it will help reform the tax<br />

collection system in the country particularly the states.<br />

Hyderabad<br />

D Sridhar Babu, Minister for Higher Education, Andhra Pradesh,<br />

launching Operation Blackboard<br />

On 16 November, Yi Hyderabad Chapter organised a<br />

session on Education Forum ‘Young India: Empowering the<br />

Future’ with stakeholders of education, at the Indian School<br />

of Business, Hyderabad. Around 300 people comprising<br />

of principals, teachers, academicians and parents from<br />

all the schools in and around Hyderabad attended this<br />

event. Mr. D Sridhar Babu, Minister for Higher Education,<br />

Andhra Pradesh, who was the Chief Guest, launched the<br />

Yi ‘Operation Blackboard’ on this occasion.<br />

Ms. Bhairavi Jani, Chairman, Young Indians, in her<br />

special address, described Yi’s initiatives in bringing<br />

change in the society through education. Yi has taken<br />

up the Akashra programme to increase the learning<br />

capabilities of children in the country.<br />

Indore<br />

As the part of the national initiative, Yi Indore launched<br />

‘Operation Blackboard’ on 13 November. Yi Indore<br />

provided 13 new blackboards to schools in Pithampur<br />

and Indore and will soon provide 20 more new<br />

blackboards in various other schools.<br />

Kolkata<br />

On 1 November Yi Kolkata celebrated World Food Day<br />

at Jyotirmai Club, providing meals to 7000 children of<br />

Blackboard distribution at a government school in Indore<br />

Jyotirmai Vidyamandir School. Reputed Bengali actress Ms.<br />

June Maliah graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.<br />

<strong>CII</strong> Yi Kolkata organised a special Children’s Day event<br />

at Liluah Home on 14 November. The Liluah Home<br />

is a ‘prison cum hostel’ for girls who are kidnapped,<br />

abandoned at railway stations, rape victims, convicts<br />

and special children.<br />

A 60 member team including doctors, young<br />

entrepreneurs and professionals, students from Globsyn<br />

Business School and Praxis Business School, part of Yi<br />

Net, and children, put their energies together to make<br />

Children’s Day special for the 250 girls at the Liluah<br />

Home. The creative potential of the girls was brought<br />

forward at a craft workshop, the products of which<br />

would be exhibited at Crossword Bookstore. An eye<br />

camp was also conducted in association with Sankara<br />

Nethralaya where fibre optic spectacles were given out<br />

to 60 girls and 17 cases were identified for operations.<br />

Seventy fruit trees were planted and a small computer<br />

lab was set up with the contribution of Nicco Group and<br />

Acclaris Business Solutions. Yi also distributed many<br />

everyday items to the girls.<br />

Madurai<br />

On 31 October, Yi Madurai, in association with Devadoss<br />

Multi-Speciality Hospital (DMH) organised a World<br />

Trauma Day Awareness Vehicle Rally. The objective of<br />

this rally was to create awareness about trauma injuries<br />

and its prevention methods.<br />

On 26 November, Yi Madurai organised a Learning<br />

Session on Labour Laws for MSME’s with Mr. Varadhan,<br />

Head Consultation & Auditing Services, Aparajitha<br />

Corporate Services (P) Ltd.<br />

Pune<br />

Yi Pune, under the Learning vertical<br />

organised an interactive session with<br />

Mr. Aun Maira, Member of the Planning<br />

Commission, and Chairman, BCG, on<br />

26 November. At this interactive session<br />

Mr. Maira shared his experiences and<br />

views on how to solve the problems<br />

which every one faces in personal as<br />

well as professional life.<br />
