Auto Show East <strong>2010</strong><br />
- Kolkata - the first Auto<br />
Show East and the second<br />
regional Auto Show was<br />
organized by <strong>CII</strong> and<br />
Society of Indian Automobile<br />
Manufacturers (SIAM)<br />
from 19-22 November in<br />
Kolkata.<br />

automobile manufacturers,<br />
along with accessories<br />
manufacturers, showcasing<br />
the new gadgets and<br />
technologies. Auto Show<br />
East <strong>2010</strong> spread across<br />
15,000 sqm was the first<br />
such event in the eastern<br />
p a r t o f t h e c o u n t r y<br />
organized by the organizers of the Auto Expo series<br />
of shows in India. The event was also supported by<br />
the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association<br />
(ACMA), and the Federation of Automobile Dealers<br />
Association of India (FADA).<br />
The Auto Show was inaugurated by Mr Ranjit Kundu,<br />
Transport Minister, West Bengal. He commended<br />
this significant initiative, and touched upon various<br />
achievements of the State Transport Department in<br />
easing the transport system of the city and bringing<br />
down the pollution rate.<br />
Some of the major participants at Auto Show East <strong>2010</strong><br />
included Toyota Kirloskar Motors, Tata Motors, Honda<br />
Ranjit Kundu, Transport Minister, West Bengal, inaugurating Auto<br />
Show East <strong>2010</strong>. Also seen: P. Balendran, Member, Executive<br />
Council, SIAM, and Vice President (Corporate Affairs),<br />
General Motors; and S.B. Ganguly, Past Chairman, <strong>CII</strong> (ER)<br />
Cars, General Motors,<br />
Mahindra & Mahindra,<br />
Maruti Suzuki, Hindustan<br />
Motors, Hyundai Motors,<br />
Fiat Automobiles, Honda<br />
Scooters & Motorcycles,<br />
TVS Motors, and Yamaha<br />
India, along with companies<br />
dealing in accessories. The<br />
newly launched Aria by<br />
Tata Motors and the Suzuki<br />
Hayabusa, the world’s<br />
fastest bike, were the star<br />
attractions of the show, in<br />
one of the first such displays<br />
in the region.<br />
Some of the special<br />
activities conducted included<br />
4X4 Track by Mahindra<br />
& Mahindra, Painting<br />
Competition by General Motors, and Test Drive by<br />
TVS Motors. As a special CSR initiative, a Safety Rides<br />
campaign for children and adults was organized by<br />
Honda Motorcycles and Scooters.<br />
In addition to the special visits of some physically<br />
challenged visitors, Auto Show East <strong>2010</strong> recorded<br />
attendance of over 28,000 visitors. In addition; the<br />
event generated over 8000 enquiries and a number of<br />
instant orders were also booked by dealers. The maiden<br />
show was also visited by consulates, government<br />
departments, corporates, and auto enthusiasts, besides<br />
visitors looking for upgrading or purchasing new vehicles<br />
/ technologies.<br />
