Megan K. Harrison, age 26 <strong>of</strong> St. Albans, plead guilty in Kanawha County Magistrate Court to one<br />

(1) misdemeanor count <strong>of</strong> providing false information to <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Motor Vehicles and was<br />

ordered to pay court costs <strong>of</strong> $159.83 and a fine <strong>of</strong> $100.00. Ms. Harrison was charged with providing<br />

false insurance information to <strong>the</strong> DMV in February <strong>of</strong> 2008 as she was attempting to title a vehicle<br />

she had purchased earlier that day. After providing <strong>the</strong> false insurance information to <strong>the</strong> DMV, it was<br />

researched and found to be false and Ms. Harrison was subsequently charged.<br />

Lisa Sparks Hagy, age 45 <strong>of</strong> Berwind; who was indicted by a McDowell County Grand Jury in June<br />

<strong>of</strong> 2008 on one (1) felony count <strong>of</strong> insurance fraud and one (1) felony count <strong>of</strong> obtaining money by<br />

false pretenses, plead guilty to <strong>the</strong> first felony charge <strong>of</strong> insurance fraud on March 27, <strong>2009</strong> in<br />

exchange for <strong>the</strong> second felony charge being dismissed. Ms. Hagy was sentenced June 11, <strong>2009</strong> to not<br />

less than one (1) year and no more than ten (10) years in <strong>the</strong> state penitentiary. Ms. Hagy was given<br />

credit for time served and released on home confinement and ordered to pay full restitution and all<br />

associated court costs. Ms. Hagy had purchased a 2005 Ford Escape on January 26, 2008 and added it<br />

to her existing policy through Sentry Viking on February 2, 2008. Later that same day she wrecked <strong>the</strong><br />

vehicle and it was a total loss, but was not reported to law enforcement or to Sentry Viking until<br />

February 26, 2008. On February 5, Ms. Hagy applied for ano<strong>the</strong>r auto insurance policy on <strong>the</strong> 2005<br />

Ford Escape through an insurance agency in Welch, and <strong>the</strong>n filed a second claim for <strong>the</strong> original<br />

damage to <strong>the</strong> vehicle reporting <strong>the</strong> loss as having occurred on February 5, 2008.<br />

William E. Wisen III age 22, plead guilty in Kanawha Magistrate Court to one (1) misdemeanor count<br />

<strong>of</strong> providing false insurance information to <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Motor Vehicles. Magistrate Halloran<br />

ordered Mr. Wisen III, to pay a $200 fine and court costs <strong>of</strong> $159.83. Mr. Wisen III provided<br />

fraudulent information, regarding automobile insurance in September 2007, to <strong>the</strong> DMV indicating he<br />

had a valid insurance policy that was in effect at <strong>the</strong> time he was transferring license plates from one<br />

vehicle to ano<strong>the</strong>r.<br />

Karen Hodges age 35, plead guilty in Kanawha Circuit Court to one (1) misdemeanor count <strong>of</strong><br />

obtaining money by false pretenses and was immediately sentenced to six (6) months in <strong>the</strong> South<br />

Central Regional Jail. The sentence was suspended and Ms. Hodges was <strong>the</strong>n placed on probation for<br />

one (1) year and ordered to pay restitution to State Farm <strong>Insurance</strong> Company in <strong>the</strong> amount <strong>of</strong><br />

$1,274.28. Ms. Hodges filed an insurance claim with State Farm <strong>Insurance</strong> Company for her motor<br />

vehicle, in 2005, for damage sustained in an automobile accident. A check was sent to her which she<br />

reported to State Farm that she never received, at which time State Farm mailed her a second check for<br />

<strong>the</strong> damage to her vehicle. Ms. Hodges <strong>the</strong>n cashed <strong>the</strong> first check at her credit union – which was <strong>the</strong><br />

check that she reported not receiving.<br />

Lynette D. Jenkins, age 52 <strong>of</strong> Martinsburg, plead guilty to a reduced charge <strong>of</strong> providing false<br />

information to <strong>the</strong> Department <strong>of</strong> Motor Vehicles. Ms. Jenkins submitted a Certificate <strong>of</strong> <strong>Insurance</strong> to<br />

<strong>the</strong> DMV on November 8, 2007 in response to <strong>the</strong>ir inquiry following a traffic stop involving her<br />

vehicle wherein a pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> insurance was not provided to <strong>the</strong> police <strong>of</strong>ficer executing <strong>the</strong> traffic stop.<br />

The forged certificate provided to <strong>the</strong> DMV contained information for a policy and company from<br />

which Ms. Jenkins had never obtained a policy. Ms. Jenkins was sentenced to six (6) months in <strong>the</strong><br />

regional jail, which was <strong>the</strong>n suspended in lieu <strong>of</strong> eighty (80) hours <strong>of</strong> community service, one year<br />

probation, and a fine <strong>of</strong> $100.00 plus associated court costs.<br />
