Why Kentucky?
“In my search for a college, Kentucky seemed like
a good fit for me. I was looking for a big school that
was far enough away from home that my parents
couldn't come visit me every weekend:) When I
came to visit UK, I felt Kentucky would give me a
fun college volleyball experience as well as give me an
opportunity to satisfy my academic goals.”
Coach Skinner on Gagnon:
"Julie has an incredible work ethic and is a great
example of the blue-collar attitude that we
are developing within our program. I predict
she will have a breakout year in 2005
at both the defensive specialist and outside
hitter positions."
2004 – Saw playing time in 27
matches and 87 games ... Was an important
defensive reserve player ... Totaled
177 digs on the season to go with 42
kills ... Recorded a career-high 13 digs
twice in SEC play ... Had a career performance
against American in the season
finale, notching 14 kills and 10 digs for
her first career double-double ... Had
nine kills on .421 hitting in the SEC
closer at Alabama.
2003 – Played in 20 matches as a
freshman, totaling 40 games, primarily
in a defensive specialist role ... Had a
season-high eight digs and two kills
against Hawaii ... Had five digs against
South Carolina in Columbia and vs.
Western Illinois at the Cyclone Challenge
... Was named to the dean’s list for
the spring semester.
High School – Was named All-State
by the Illinois High School Athletics
Association in 2002 and earned All-Tournament
team honors after leading her
team to a fourth-place finish in the state
tournament … Was unanimously named
All-Conference in 2001 and 2002 …
Was recognized as the 2002 Illinois
Gatorade Player of the Year … Was a
Chicago Tribune All-State honorable
mention as a junior and a senior … Was named
Defensive Player of the Year for her team as a senior as
well as Best Digger, Best Passer and Best Hitter as a
junior and a senior … Played high school volleyball for
Bill Schreier … Played club volleyball at West Suburban
Volleyball Club under Coach April Carroll …
Also was named Scholastic All-Conference.
