Sister Xavier – Jane Olszamowska, born 1883, entered the Congregation <strong>in</strong> 1912.<br />

She was superior <strong>in</strong> Kiekrz and <strong>in</strong> Warsaw, and then was secretary general. She died on<br />

March 11, 1970, <strong>in</strong> Cracow.<br />

236. Probably Father M. Sopocko, because he was chiefly active <strong>in</strong> spread<strong>in</strong>g the<br />

devotion of The Div<strong>in</strong>e Mercy and <strong>in</strong> efforts to found the new community; but Sister Faust<strong>in</strong>a<br />

may also have had <strong>in</strong> m<strong>in</strong>d Father Andrasz or Mother Irene Krzyzanowska, because they,<br />

too, made efforts to spread the devotion of The Div<strong>in</strong>e Mercy.<br />

237. Father Theodore Czaputa was the confessor of the novitiate. Some of the<br />

professed sisters also made their confession to him. The Sa<strong>in</strong>t‟s spiritual director was Father<br />

Andrasz. Sister Faust<strong>in</strong>a is careful to make the dist<strong>in</strong>ction.<br />

238. Sister Tarcisia – Casimira Piotrowicz. Born <strong>in</strong> 1891, she entered the<br />

Congregation <strong>in</strong> 1912. For a short time she was a nurse <strong>in</strong> the Cracow house.<br />

239. Probably Sister Amelia, who was Sister Faust<strong>in</strong>a‟s close friend.<br />

240. Carnival – a time of revelry and merrymak<strong>in</strong>g before the Lenten Season.<br />

241. A doctor called <strong>in</strong> to see the sick sisters. It is hard to say which one. A Dr.<br />

Stoch came frequently.<br />

242. Probably Dr. Silberg, who knew Sister Faust<strong>in</strong>a‟s condition.<br />

243. To the hospital for contagious diseases at Pradnik near Cracow, known as the<br />

“sanatorium.”<br />

244. There is a corridor lead<strong>in</strong>g from the house to the choir loft of the chapel. Sister<br />

Faust<strong>in</strong>a was <strong>in</strong> the choir loft and so attended Mass, but she was not strong enough to go<br />

down and take part <strong>in</strong> the procession with the palms.<br />

245. Father Zukowicz, S.J., who was celebrat<strong>in</strong>g Mass that day. He was assistant to<br />

the prov<strong>in</strong>cial for very many years. He was a close friend of the Congregation of Our Lady of<br />

Mercy. As a great benefactor of their apostolic work, he often visited the girls and brought<br />

them small gifts.<br />

246. Sister Casimir – Irene Twarowska. Born 1911, she entered the Congregation <strong>in</strong><br />

1933. She worked as a group <strong>in</strong>structor and then as the head of the home for girls. She<br />

died <strong>in</strong> Cracow on April 18, 1969.<br />

247. The follow<strong>in</strong>g sisters had been <strong>in</strong> the novitiate with Sister Faust<strong>in</strong>a:<br />
