This great, supranational community of people is one family, which is be<strong>in</strong>g united,<br />

first of all, by god <strong>in</strong> the <strong>my</strong>stery of His <strong>mercy</strong>, and secondly, by people’s long<strong>in</strong>g, both, to reflect that<br />

<strong>mercy</strong> <strong>in</strong> their own hearts and works, and for God’s glory to be reflected <strong>in</strong> all <strong>soul</strong>s. It is a<br />

community of people who <strong>in</strong> different ways, depend<strong>in</strong>g upon their state <strong>in</strong> life and vocation (priestly,<br />

religious, lay), live by the Gospel ideal of trust and <strong>mercy</strong>, proclaim the <strong>in</strong>comprehensible <strong>my</strong>stery of<br />

God’s <strong>mercy</strong> by their life and words, and obta<strong>in</strong> Div<strong>in</strong>e Mercy for the world with the entreaties.<br />

St. Faust<strong>in</strong>a’s mission f<strong>in</strong>ds deep justification <strong>in</strong> Holy Scripture and documents of the<br />

Church; it superbly corresponds especially with the encyclical Dives <strong>in</strong> misericordia (Rich <strong>in</strong> <strong>mercy</strong>)<br />

of the Holy Father, John Paul II.<br />

3. REMARKS REGARDING THE THIRD<br />

ENGLISH EDITION OF ST. FAUSTINA’S DIARY.<br />

The former scientific study by Fr. George Mrówczynski concern<strong>in</strong>g the composition of<br />

Sa<strong>in</strong>t Faust<strong>in</strong>a’s Diary, that served as an <strong>in</strong>troduction to its last two editions, has been replaced with<br />

the present text, the aim of which is to br<strong>in</strong>g the reader closer to the personality of the author herself<br />

and her mission, as an aid to understand<strong>in</strong>g the Diary.<br />

August 27, 1905<br />

Helen Kowalska is born <strong>in</strong> the village of Glogowiec, Turek County, Lodz<br />

Prov<strong>in</strong>ce, Poland (Parish records of births).<br />

She is baptized <strong>in</strong> St. Casimir Church, Sw<strong>in</strong>ice Warckie, Turek County,<br />

by pastor, Rev. Joseph Chodynski. She receives the name of Helen.<br />

(Acts of the Parish <strong>in</strong> Sw<strong>in</strong>ice).<br />

1912 At the age of seven, Helen hears for the first time a voice <strong>in</strong> her<br />

<strong>soul</strong>, call<strong>in</strong>g her to a more perfect way of life (Diary I:3).<br />

1914 She receives First Holy Communion from the hands of her pastor,<br />

Rev.Pawlowski (Acts of the Parish <strong>in</strong> Sw<strong>in</strong>ice).<br />

November 1917<br />

She beg<strong>in</strong>s her primary education <strong>in</strong> Sw<strong>in</strong>ice (M<strong>in</strong>utes from Zbiorczej<br />

Szkoly Gm<strong>in</strong>nej w Sw<strong>in</strong>icach Warckich, April 6, 1976).<br />

1919 At the age of 14, Helen beg<strong>in</strong>s to work for the Bryszewski family <strong>in</strong><br />

Aleksandrow, near Lodz, <strong>in</strong> order to help her parents (Memoirs of her<br />

mother, Marianne Kowalska).<br />
