PPE Requirement Gloves and Eye Protection should be worn when mixing chemicals or if there is a significant chance of the chemicals coming

Atmospheric Monitoring Required for: Check 3 should be used in a well ventilated area 

Cyanide measured at 3mg/m3 over 3 mins therefore over 8 hours exposure would be less that 5mg/m3 due to nature of work 

Assessment of Control Notes: 2-4 are used in the lacquer tank: 5-13 & 16 are used in the gold plating tank. 1 & 14 are used as a cleaner 

No Vapour was detected from 2 therefore no LEV/PPE required. 

Would advise that general ventilation is provided over the tank containing 2-4 (all mixed in one tank)

DESCRIPTION 

Mildly acidic gold plating process for decorative applications. 

Rack or barrel operation at approximately room temperature. High 

resistance to organic and metallic impurities, including lead. 

Where economic factors preclude the use of normal anode systems 

Austenitic stainless steel may be substituted for low volume 

production. Bright 24 carat gold colour, uniformity of which is 

maintained over wide operating conditions.

NOTES 

1. 10 ml/l Endura Gleam 265 Acid Solution reduces pH by ca. 0.1 

units.

3. 30 ml/l Endura Gleam 265 Conductivity Solution increases S.G. 

by 0.01 units. 

4. 4 ml/l Endura Gleam 265 Cobalt Concentrate increases cobalt by 

0.1 g/l. 

Where high drag-out of gold solution and drag-in of water occurs, 

the use of Endura Gleam 265 Conductivity Salt is recommended for 

maintenance of specific gravity. Add 20 gm/l to increase the S.G. 

by 0.01 units. A minimum specific gravity of 1.08 should be 

maintained. 

5. 20 ml/l Endura Gleam 265 Stabiliser increases the active 

concentration by 1%. 

6. Optimum conditions for barrel operations are:-

The gold concentration is reduced to reduce drag-out losses and the 

pH reduced to stabilise cathode efficiency. 

7. For thin decorative products, the gold content may be reduced 

to ca. 1 gm/l without real colour or alloy modification. Care 

must be taken however in maintaining regular replenishment in 

these cases. Thicknesses of 1 - 2 micron will require ca. 4 

gm/l gold and thicknesses of 5 micron and greater will require 

6 - 8 gm/l gold in solution. 

The process contains a stabiliser for improvement of metal 

distribution and to minimise the attack of stainless steel anodes. 

It should be maintained at a minimum of 15 ml/l. Refer to LeaRonal 

Service Labs. for analysis for this component. Adding 10 ml/l 

Endura Gleam 265 Stabiliser increases the active concentration by 5 

ml/l. Consumption of this constituent may vary according to 

individual plant features and drag-out losses.
