Brands are part to the most important ingredients in<br />

Bosch and Siemens: these two brands are known<br />

worldwide and have a long history, underpinning our intern<strong>at</strong>ional<br />

awards as Best-Buy or Best-in-Test winners in 145 evalu<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

run by German consumer body Stiftung Warentest<br />

countries throughout Europe during 2011.<br />

We achieved particularly good results in Austria, Germany,<br />

the UK, the Netherlands and France. The accur<strong>at</strong>e<br />

labeling of our appliances enables our customers to<br />

have absolute confidence in their purchase.<br />

The retail sector too, can rely on our being a fair and reliable<br />

partner in their commercial activities. In 2011 the<br />

retail chain Euronics named us “Supplier of the Year”<br />

for the sixth successive time.<br />

We have traditionally put quality and innov<strong>at</strong>ion high<br />

on the agenda, and they are the factors behind our<br />

success on the intern<strong>at</strong>ional competitive stage. We<br />

agreeable for people right across the world, thanks to<br />

We acknowledge our social responsibility. Wherever we<br />

oper<strong>at</strong>e, our actions are in accordance with the law and<br />

with the principles set out in the United N<strong>at</strong>ions Global<br />

Compact in rel<strong>at</strong>ion to human rights, labor rel<strong>at</strong>ions<br />

and environmental protection. By our responsible and<br />

conserv<strong>at</strong>ion-minded tre<strong>at</strong>ment of resources we set<br />

standards for sustainable development. Our dealings<br />

with employees, business partners and shareholders<br />

are guided by honesty and integrity.<br />

As a member of the Global Compact and sign<strong>at</strong>ory to the<br />

Code of Conduct of CECED, the European Committee of<br />

Domestic Equipment Manufacturers, we have committed<br />

to maintaining high environmental and social standards<br />

<strong>at</strong> all our oper<strong>at</strong>ing loc<strong>at</strong>ions.<br />

We have set ourselves the objective of achieving a 25<br />

percent reduction in the resources used in our production<br />

and administr<strong>at</strong>ion activities in rel<strong>at</strong>ion to the amount of<br />

appliances produced by 2015. <strong>BSH</strong> has received honors<br />

including Germany’s Innov<strong>at</strong>ion Prize for Clim<strong>at</strong>e and<br />

Environment, as well as the country’s Sustainability<br />

Award, the n<strong>at</strong>ional award of the Spanish Ministry for<br />

the Environment and the Environmental Award of the<br />

US Environmental Protection Agency.<br />

<strong>2012</strong> saw the German Federal Government and Associ<strong>at</strong>ion<br />

of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce<br />

(DIHK) admitted <strong>BSH</strong> to the group of clim<strong>at</strong>e protection<br />

companies. We became the first company in Europe to<br />

be awarded CO 2 certific<strong>at</strong>es for environmentally friendly<br />

freight transport by rail.<br />

| Economic Development<br />

Despite difficult oper<strong>at</strong>ing conditions during fiscal year<br />

2011, <strong>BSH</strong> posted a year-on-year increase of 6.4 percent<br />

in group sales to 9.654 billion euros. In spite of some<br />

neg<strong>at</strong>ive effects from exchange r<strong>at</strong>es and rising raw<br />

m<strong>at</strong>erial costs, <strong>BSH</strong> was able to record a consolid<strong>at</strong>ed net<br />

profit of 373 million euros.<br />

This positive development was to a significant degree<br />

<strong>at</strong>tributable to our home market: With sales growth of<br />

more than eight percent in Germany <strong>BSH</strong> grew stronger<br />

than the German home appliances market. However, the<br />

main growth drivers for <strong>BSH</strong> are outside Germany. As<br />

in previous years, our business developed particularly<br />

strongly in Turkey and Russia, as well as in China, though<br />

in the l<strong>at</strong>ter case growth slowed slightly. We did, however,<br />

suffer declines in some Western European markets<br />

and in the U.S.<br />

To maintain and strengthen our position among the<br />

world’s leading home appliance manufacturers, we not<br />

only invested just under 300 million euros in research<br />

and development in the year under review, but also 453<br />

million euros in new production plants and in extending<br />

capacity <strong>at</strong> existing factories in Germany and abroad.<br />

True to our sustainable growth str<strong>at</strong>egy, we paid strict<br />

<strong>at</strong>tention to maintaining a sound financial position with<br />

low third-party indebtedness in these endeavors. Our<br />

solid financial figures and positive outlook were also<br />

recognized by intern<strong>at</strong>ional r<strong>at</strong>ing agency Standard &<br />

Poor’s, which once again confirmed our outstanding “A”<br />

credit r<strong>at</strong>ing.
