90 Chapter 5: Creating label formats for printing VCode User Guide Adding a label format field Introduction This topic describes how to add a field to a label format. You do this when creating a new label format. Field requirements A label format can have up to six fields. Field 1 must be a text field. Procedure To add a field to a label format: 1. Right-click on the white space in the Label Editor group box. 2. From the drop-down list, select either Insert text or Insert bar code. Once you have added the field, a row in the Label Field Data group box is filled with data. Chapter 5: Creating label formats for printing VCode User Guide 91 Defining the value of a label format field Introduction This topic describes how to define the value of a field in a label format. You do this when creating a new label format. About the Value parameter A field’s Value parameter determines one of the following: ❑ The text that is printed on the label, in the case of a text field ❑ The text that is encoded into a bar code, in the case of a bar code field It is important to note that a field’s value is only used when performing a test print in VCode Diagnostics. When you are performing a batch run using a print job, the value of each field comes from the data sources that you select for the job. Procedure To define a field’s Value: 1. Click a row in the Label Field Data group box to select it. 2. Click the text of the field in the Value column. The current name of the field is highlighted. 3. Replace the text with text of your choice. !! IMPORTANT !! Type text that is about the same length as the text that will be used in production labelling. This will give you a more realistic preview in the label editor and allow you to optimize the spacing and size of your fields. 4. Click in a blank area of the Label Field Data group box to make the change. The text in the Text Editor group box also changes.
