72 Chapter 4: Setting up the VCode VCode User Guide Setting the robot pickup angle Introduction This topic explains how to set the plate stage position for a robot or person to deliver or pick up a plate. Reason to do this If you are using your VCode with a BioCel ® or BenchCel ® , the correct robot pickup angle was set at the factory. If you are integrating your VCode into another company’s lab automation system, you will probably need to change the robot pickup angle to accommodate your robot’s geometry. !! IMPORTANT !! If you think that either the bar code angle teachpoint or apply angle teachpoint is set incorrectly, contact Velocity11. Do not try to change either of these settings yourself. Two methods There are two methods for setting the robot pickup angle. They are: ❑ Specify an angle (clockwise from the home position) and set that as the teachpoint. ❑ Manually move the plate stage to a position and set its position as the teachpoint. Method one To set the robot pickup angle by specifying the angle: 1. In the Device Selection group box of the Print Job page of PlateTag, make sure that an Ethernet-based profile is selected if you are connecting using Ethernet or a serial-based profile is selected if you are connecting using serial. 2. In PlateTag, select View > Diagnostics. The plate stage moves and the VCode Diagnostics dialog box opens after a few seconds. 3. Click the Stage setup tab. 4. Click Home Stage to return the plate stage to its home position, before trying a different angle. 5. Enter an angle into the Robot pickup angle text box. 6. Click Teach. You may need to use trial and error to set the exact angle that you want.

In the Device Selection group box of the Print Job page of PlateTag, make sure that an Ethernet-based profile is selected if you are connecting using Ethernet or a serial-based profile is selected if you are connecting using serial. 2. In PlateTag, select View > Diagnostics. The plate stage moves and the VCode Diagnostics dialog box opens after a few seconds. 3. If the applicator head is pointing towards the plate stage: a. Click the I/O functions tab. b. Click Rotate to printer. The head rotates towards the printer, moving it out of the plate stage rotation path. c. Click the Profiles tab. !! DAMAGE HAZARD !! Before moving the stage, make sure that the head is not in the way. 4. Click the Stage Setup tab. 5. Make sure that Disable stage auto-repositioning is selected. 6. Manually rotate the plate stage so that the east side of the plate faces the applicator head. 7. Click the I/O functions tab and then click Rotate to Stage. 8. Click Extend Head. 9. Fine-tune the angle so that the applicator head is lined up with the plate. 10. Click Teach here. 11. Click Retract head. 12. Click Rotate to Printer.
