28 Chapter 3: Installing the VCode VCode User Guide A 1/4” nipple (white plastic tube) A quick-release T-hose fitting, 6 mm ❑ A VCode software and documentation CD-ROM ❑ A printed VCode User Guide Air fittings Depending on the configuration of your air supply system, you may need to use one or more of the air fittings supplied in the box. If your air system has an unusual configuration, you will need to supply your own fittings. Computer requirements Requirements Before starting the installation, make sure that your computer meets the following requirements: ❑ A computer that is running the Microsoft ® Windows ® NT 4.0, 2000, or XP operating system ❑ Either: A serial DB9 RS-232 port An available Ethernet network card Lab requirements Requirements Before installing the VCode, make sure that your laboratory has: ❑ A supply of clean, dry compressed air: 2.5 cfm at 80 psi (5.3 L/s at 0.55 MPa) ❑ A power supply meeting one of the following specifications: North American: 120 VAC, 50–60 Hz, 2 A European: 20–240 VAC, 50 Hz, 2 A ❑ Sufficient bench space: 28.5 cm x 61.0 cm (11.2 inches x 24.0 inches) (not including the computer)
Chapter 3: Installing the VCode VCode User Guide 29 Connecting the air tubing: North America Introduction This topic is for customers in North America only. It explains how to connect the air tubing to the VCode. Warnings !! INJURY HAZARD !! Switch off the air supply before installing your VCode. When air is flowing, air tubing can injure you if it whips around and strikes you. If you have not been trained in the correct way to handle air tubing, contact your facilities department or the Velocity11 Service Center. !! DAMAGE HAZARD !! Make sure that the air tubing coming into your VCode is properly filtered for moisture. Moist air might shorten the life of your VCode. If the quality of your air supply is in question, please contact Velocity11®. Connection procedure The following procedure is used to set up a direct connection. If you have another instrument connected to the house air supply, you can use the supplied quick-release T-connector to connect to the existing air tubing. To install the air tubing: 1. Cut the supplied 1/4-inch tubing to the length you need. 2. If your house air uses a threaded connection at the supply end, attach the 1/4-inch NPT fitting to the connection. 3. Plug one end of the tubing into your lab’s air supply. 4. Plug the other end of the 1/4-inch tubing into the orange quickrelease air supply port at the back of the VCode. 00150c Vcode air hose 00150c 5. Test the installation by gently tugging the air tubing. If you feel resistance, the line has been properly installed.
