10 Chapter 2: VCode orientation VCode User Guide About the VCode Product description The VCode Bar Code Print and Apply Station prints bar code labels and applies them to any side of a microplate. As bar code labels can include human readable fields, this allows both humans and lab automation systems to track individual microplates as they move through a lab process. label example Ways to use the VCode A VCode can be used: ❑ As a stand-alone instrument ❑ As part of a Velocity11 ® lab automation system ❑ As part of another company’s lab automation system Use as a stand-alone unit When the VCode is set up as a stand-alone unit, it is connected to a computer that runs two types of software provided by Velocity11: ❑ PlateTag software for performing batch labelling runs ❑ VCode Diagnostics for testing and setup When used for batch runs as a stand-alone instrument, you place a plate on the plate stage, press the green button to perform the print-and-apply operation, and then replace the plate with the next one. Use as part of a Velocity11 lab automation system When the VCode is set up as part of a Velocity11 BioCel ® or BenchCel ® lab automation system it is run by two types of software: ❑ VWorks or BenchWorks software for performing batch labelling runs ❑ VCode Diagnostics for testing and setup When used with the BioCel or BenchCel, plates are automatically moved to and from the VCode by a robot. Use in another company’s lab automation system When the VCode is set up as part of another company’s lab automation system, it is controlled by third-party software for automated printing and applying. Through the third-party software you may be able to open and use the Velocity11 VCode Diagnostics. When used as part of another company’s lab automation system, plates are automatically moved to and from the VCode by a robot.

The button that starts a print-and-apply operation for batch runs administered by PlateTag. The position that holds a plate delivered by a person or robot. The plate stage rotates to allow labelling on all four sides and to allow a bar code to be read. It also moves up and down to accommodate almost any plate. Note: If you purchased your VCode to use as a standalone instrument and later decide to integrate it into a BenchCel or BioCel, you may need to replace the plate stage with a different type.
