124 Chapter 6: Running a print job VCode User Guide 4. Add the name of the clone to the schema that will be used to print the new label: a. Click in the Data type column for the field that you are cloning. b. Click a second time to open a list box and select Clones. c. In the adjacent Variable name field, select the variable that you named above. 5. Click Update Schema to save the changes. You cannot clone text fields You can only clone bar codes. This is because text fields cannot be read by the bar code reader. If you want the label that contains the cloned bar code to also have text fields that match those on the label from which the clone was created, you will need to set up the schema to replicate those fields, using constants and counters. You cannot clone a field in the same job You can only clone a bar code that is on the plate before the print job begins. If your goal is to use a single print job to first print a label and then clone its bar code, it is unlikely to work. This is because you cannot control the order in which the sides of the plate are labelled. If you attempt to so this, when the cloning operation begins, there may not yet be a label on the side that you want to clone from. Related information For more information about... See... Chapter 6: Running a print job VCode User Guide 125 Creating a schema Introduction Before you can create a print job for printing a batch of labels, you must create and configure one or more schemas. This topic describes how to create, update, copy, and delete a schema. To learn how to configure a schema, see “Configuring a schema” on page 126. Before you start This procedure assumes that PlateTag is already open. Creating a schema To create a schema: 1. Click the Schemas tab at the bottom of the page. 2. Click Create new schema. 3. Replace the text New Schema #x in the Profile list box with a name of your choice. 4. Click Rename schema. The button label changes to Update schema and the schema is created. Updating a schema Updating a schema is the same as saving a changed schema. To update a schema after making changes: 1. In PlateTag, click the Schemas tab at the bottom of the page. 2. Click Update schema. Copying a schema If you want a new schema that is similar to an existing one, it is quicker to copy the existing one than create a new schema. To copy a schema: 1. In PlateTag, click the Schemas tab at the bottom of the page. 2. Click Create copy. The schema is saved to the drive specified for schemas in the preferences with the name of the original schema prefixed with the text “Copy of” (for example, “Copy of schema one”).
