What is a bundled payment?
• New payment model where services in a
specified time period are “bundled” together
into a single “payment”
• Payment model is between the extremes
of fee-for-service and full-capitation
• Encourages care coordination across providers
• Beneficiary participation is triggered by an “anchor event”
(i.e., hospital admission).
• Hospital and professional services for the medical
condition over a defined time period are included in the
definition of the episode of care.
