The ETC-PHHP/EUMAHP Summer Course EVALUATION
Cagliari 2003
1. Evaluation aims
The salutogenic approach of the ETC-PHHP courses is also built into the program evaluation, based on the
health promotion principles (empowering, participatory, holistic) and treated as an ongoing activity and as a
learning process. These are reasons why the main purpose of this year course evaluation (the same as the
purpose for the previous courses) was to improve – not to prove, and evaluation was seen as the essential
part of course planning and management. Based on the course objectives related to learning/teaching
process and long-term impact especially related to the European networking in the field of health promotion,
the aims of the evaluation are described as follows:
• To assess the achievement of the course aims (comparing the course objectives and group
projects as the outcome), adding a value judgment to obtained results;
• To use the lessons learned to improve current activities and future programs (identifying
opportunities and constrains for improving the program in the particular context and learn how to
improve initiatives);
• To reflect what is going on during the program for both participants and tutors (bridging learning
process and salutogenesis):
Specific evaluation objectives are described in the part of the evaluation methodology.
2. Evaluation methods
Evaluation was done by participants and by tutors, using different methods:
• Weekly evaluation through individual and group feed-back
• Letters from participants to tutors at the end of the course
• Tutors’ process evaluation (regular meetings and final assessment after the course)
• Group project presentations at the end of the course
2.1. Weekly evaluation through individual and group feedback
After the first week of the program, formal evaluation was conducted using:
(a) Written individual questionnaire – individual reflection about positive and negative aspects
related to the:
• pre-course preparation (distance learning part)
• settings
• program contents and quality of teaching/learning program
• materials
• personal feelings.
(b) Group discussion and participants consensus about the same elements of the program,
including concrete proposals addressed to the tutors and organizers (SWOT analysis)
1

(c) Tutors discussion on their comments and recommendations as well as feedback to the group
(what could be changed immediately?)
2.2. Letters from participants to tutors at the end of the course
The last day of the course, participants were asked to write a personal letter to tutors and organizers as
an overall evaluation of the course. Those letters (stories), sometimes in form of diary, expressed their
personal and professional feelings, expectations, comments and recommendations for the future. Some
citations (as examples) are given in the part Evaluation results.
2.3. Tutors’ process evaluation (regular meetings and final assessment after the course)
Regular formal course team meetings (every second day during two weeks) were used for planning,
development and evaluation of the program. Work in tutorials also served as a continuous evaluation of
the process and individual and group development.
At the beginning of October 2003, the ETC-PHHP course team had a meeting in Dubrovnik with special
agenda on Course 2003 evaluation, using data gathered from different sources. The final thoughts and
conclusions are presented in the part “Evaluation results”.
2.4. Group project presentations at the end of the course
Besides the specific learning tasks of the Group projects (as the final outcome of the Course), those
projects were also very important part of the immediate impact evaluation of the program. Working
process in mixed groups (different social, cultural and professional background), ways of getting idea,
decision-making in project development, and networking and final presentation was monitored.
However, the most important part of the immediate impact of the course was related to the specific
course learning objectives. For example, the assessment of the projects (as the achievement of the
learning objectives) included (a) what kind of knowledge and skills obtained during course are integrated
into project, (b) is the project reflect the strategy and principles of HFA, (c) is the wider relevance of the
study in relation to health promotion recognised, etc.
2. Evaluation results
3. Summary of tutors’ evaluation (conclusions):
The course team (tutors) discussed their experiences with the course 2003. It was generally very positive
feeling that both students and tutors’ expectations were fulfilled. The group of students was highly motivated
and stimulated tutors’ work in depth. Some innovations used at the first time were assessed positively and
they should be used in the next program. After twelve years of experiences with the course, tutors also
agreed that it is necessary to have a formal impact evaluation of their own personal and professional
development
However, it was also agreed that some parts of the course should be improved.
(a) The “Distance learning” element (pre-course program). The course team agreed that the specific
learning outcomes for the distance-learning element should be listed. It also needs clearer instructions and
a review of the articles chosen for pre-reading. Word count should be stated and instructions should clearly
state how the reports will be used and whether they will be assessed. It was suggested that we should
provide specific structured questions for the country profile to provide a little more guidance (including
encouragement to include their own reflections, not just hard data). Course team should also make it
explicit that it is acceptable for them to carry out the work as a group if they are in contact with other
students. It should be made clear that country profiles will be presented with other participants from the
same country. Names of participants could be sent in advance so that they can contact each other prior to
commencement of the course if they wish.
(b) Lack of computers: Where computing facilities are sparse, students could be encouraged to bring
laptops if they have them. The course organizer should collect all papers in advance and put them on a CD
prior to the course. The CD used in Cagliari could be a starting point for this.
(c) Information about setting and accommodation should be sending in details before the course.
(d) The ETC-PHHP networking (including communication with previous participants to assess the long-term
impact of the course) should be improved.
(e) It is also important to have a good balance between participants coming from EU and non-EU
countries, if the course would like to keep and develop the Pan-European approach. It is necessary to
support financially and professionally their possibilities to attend the course.
LETTERS ADDRESSED TO TUTORS
(as a part of Course evaluation)
Dear tutors,
First I want to start with all the work and effort you have put in the course. I really enjoyed the course
and my staying in Cagliari/residence. I felt really welcome. The rooms were really clean, it was nice to
have real Italians lunches (although, they were really salt sometimes), the presentations seemed good
organised, and I really felt it is a challenge to work with different views and experiences. I'm sorry that
we weren't able to speak with the Italians, as they have had a separate course.
Of course, there were also some things that could have been better organised, as is the case of every
course or conference. Examples are:
- The breakfast-although Italians doesn’t really have breakfast; it has been hard for me without a
glass of milk and coffee, and some sandwiches; luckily, I was able to buy some things.
- Misunderstanding could have been avoided by providing more practical information; on the other
hand, this problem has been saved very quickly.
- My experience was that it vas very hard to involve all the group-participants in the group work;
sometimes I felt that some participants didn't to much, because of a look of English or shyness, or
that their staying here was more like a holiday. If this had been a real project, and thus longer
project it probably would have been different. There were also some people who were working on
their country profile during the group work (which should have been told us earlier). That really
annoyed me. On the other hand, we also have had fun and pleasure to work with other.
I would like to end with this evaluation letter, by telling you what I liked the most during the course. This
was our visit to the community. I will remember this day for a long time. Thank you. By for now.
Dear tutors,
The course has been very interesting, and a good experience to take with me. Coming together from all
parts of Europe to learn and exchange experiences is important for health promotion. The setting was
nice, although a bit too hot: knowing, and seeing the facilities other institutions have makes me
appreciate more what the situation is actually like, and how different we all are. It is so easy to think of
Europe as very similar and alike, when in real life even the closest countries are vastly different in most
parts of society. I think it is important to be reminded of this. It is important to have our own national
identity, but we must not forget to learn from each other. And this is what this course does.
A little thing I think, for me, would have made it better was if there had been arranged a (optional)
sightseeing trip during the weekend. There are so many places to see in Sardinia, but most often a car
is needed to get there.
3. Dear tutors,
Thank you for a wonderful time in Cagliari. Except from the weather it has been very pleasant stay. The
course was very interesting-not just informative but it has also giving me new ideas and energy to work
with back in home country. It has also been a great opportunity to meet many different kind of people
from whom you could learn a lot and I definitely feel that I now have created a European network that
could be useful in the future.
I am not going to bother you with complaints over organisation, or lack of computers. Everybody seems
to have done his or her best and deserve a path on the shoulder (especially considering the extreme
heat they have been working under).
Tutors have been very inspiring and have also done a good job in Cagliari.
6

Dear Tutors,
Sitting on the beach this last day of our course here in Cagliari, I am glad.
Enjoying the weather, the culture and daily life of Sardinia for two weeks and not at least good
atmosphere, setting, wisdom, co students and relaxed and well-qualified tutors at the course.
I have been sleeping in and out of the idea attending the course since the day I mailed my application
12th of April 2003. Now I am well satisfied. I will be more capable to explain and discuss public health
and health promotion with my colleagues and friends, from now on. Many of them (my friends and
colleagues) have been asking me what my studies is all about and my only answer was: «I really don't
know!»
My comments to the lecturers did include words like, in Italian, different idea, ok, strange, to remember,
funny, good, very interesting, la-la, exciting, provoking and full of new thoughts.
I liked to learn that group works progress/process conflicts are same everywhere «We are the world». I
could imagine that if our challenge chapter in our distance learning were used to group us, the group
work would have positive effect on our work, in groups (a common red string-rope in the challenges
chapter).
I found the whole surrounding here in Cagliari in general relaxing and promoting.
Thank you
«My hearth is still with the prisoners in Cagliari»
Thorsteim T, Iceland
Dear tutors,
My feedback about the teacher's role during this course is positive. From my opinion lecturers were
professional and well prepared. They were interesting because all teachers were positive, and engaged
and that helped me to be attentive. I especially liked Goga's lecture and evaluation and C.Van
Woerkum's lecture on health communication. I am interested in communication and also the questions
approach in Goga's lecture was a very positive approach that appealed to me.
From my opinion we could have had more small group discussions after lectures, because from the one
we had I really learned a lot. It was good to be split in two groups for lectures. We were less people and
I liked that we changed room each lecture.
Concerning tutorials we changed tutor after one week for me it was not negative, but I was happy Cinzia
also was our tutor to secure stability within the group. We used some extra time to explain our new tutor
about the work and we also made short presentations once again. What I have learned from this was
that different tutors have different ways of tutoring the group. In the beginning I was negative, but that
was until I found out how brilliant our new tutor was. She had a lot of experience and willingly shared it
with us.
All in all I am very satisfied with the avidity of the lectures. I now go home to my country with new
learning and more experience than before.
Thank you,
Inger Braathu, Norvegia
6. Dear tutors,
Just want to say thank you for making this stay in Cagliari so nice and inspiring.
You have all made a really good job and I think that we all have learned a lot about Health promotion
even if we sometimes just wanted to get away from the heat and to the beach.
I do not have so much to say just that this was a good experience.
Dear tutors,
Thank you, for a good course. I believe I have learned a lot. Mainly in terms of cooperating with others,
and the experiences one gain by having to follow a strict time schedule.
7

I think the lectures, where it was both a lecture and an activity/assignment was the most educational. I
found the methods-lecture especially good. All the lectures have been good, but due to time, we have
only touched upon several subjects. However, it has been interesting to listen to other professors, and
how they understand and approach to subjects already familiar to you.
The distant learning was also very useful. However, the preparation of our country profiles should be
added to what we can do before we arrive to the course. If we receive a list of participants with the
distant learning assignment, we would have avoided a lot of double work and could have been better
prepared. I have understood that we didn't receive such a list, because it was not ready before just
before we started the course. It might be better to keep the time limits set, so also the organiser’s job
was a bit easier.
Complaints about accommodation, computer access and so on I believe could be avoided if people
have been informed properly in advance on what to expect and what to bring. Several people had
laptops they could bring, along with towels and toilet paper!
But, all in all, this has been a good experience. I have met lots of nice, interesting, experienced and
clever people!
Dear tutors and organizators,
First of all I want to thank you for this organization. I learnt lot, worked lot and lived lot. General picture
of these two weeks seem so colourful and satisfy for me.
Small group studies are so beneficial for this kind of conferences and/or trainings. But, at the same time
this also difficult to get know each other, share ideas-opinions and to put a project in just 7-8 days.
Maybe having a web site and chat-rooms, forum boards could be helpful beforehand and enhance the
effectiveness of the group.
I think some institutions were not clean like poster, country profile presentation. It is so difficult for
someone who doesn't know the procedure and learning them just a ten time before. Also, I think «poster
presentation» means that posters speak for themselves. There's no need to speak about the poster
again. If we know that there will be two studies, 1) poster and 2) presentation of project, it would be
easier for us, to focus on.
Preparing the country profile was quite challenging for me. I started to work on it on May, and it took
really too much time. But, I like to prepare it. Because I learned lots of details about my country’s health
care system and also personally I broadened my vision. Thank you again! (Anyway, having any kind of
feedback about it could be helpful for me).
At last, but not least, I wished to have all readings in a more organized way-maybe in a package or
having them before hand the course starts. Because, I feel disorganized in collecting readings after
lecturers.
Overall, thank you for everything and your hospitability.
Dear tutors,
Lectures have been excellent, so many different personalities which is very good. And it was nice have
lectures in so many different countries also. It's very good to hear how things (PHHP) go in different
countries.
The programme could have been a bit better way arranged and/or organized. Timing was too much
behind the schedule.
Working equipments (computer, copy machine etc.) should be in a good shape. It not you can see very
frustrated people around, and that happened here. Especially, close to project's deadline. But people
made it and that's the main thing. Next year those will be hopefully better.
Tutors were very helpful or our tutor (can't speak others) (but I guess they were too). They were
available when headed even they were not in a classroom all the time. Very good!
Thank you all very much for everything, and anyway it was nice to be here and have/get this
experience!
8

But now it's time to go home…
Dear Tutors,
Well, first I would like to say I liked the course very much. The combination of lectures and project group
is nice and varied. Most of the lectures seemed well prepared and added good information for the group
work later in the afternoon. But during the lectures I missed interaction (most of the lectures at least). In
my opinion you learn a lot more when you actually practice with the theoretical material. The group-work
turned out to be hardworking till late in afternoon/evening but I didn't mind because we came hear to
learn a lot (more a process: reaching consensus with all the people from different countries and with
different backgrounds) and it was good to learn and hear now things are in other European countries.
Related to the previous, the country-profiles were very helpful and interesting. Only it might save a lot of
time when you say to the students to prepare a presentation as part of the distance learning, because
during the course we had to do it in the night (really!!) and we had no computers available at the
residence.
About the computers: a bit more could be nice next time so every group can work as long on a computer
as they like. The rest of the equipment and the rooms at University etc. were fine.
The presentation, the way of presenting, the way of presenting was good and nice to do.
About the staying in the residence: I think it was a fine location, although it might be nice to give more
information beforehand (no equipment in the kitchens, breakfast, toilet paper etc.). So a little bit more
practical information before the journey. But overall I liked the course and will recommend it to other
students and colleagues. I learned a lot and hope to put it in practice.
Dear Tutors,
With this letter I'd like to thank you all for your marvellous job you've done here in Cagliari. This course
has been a good opportunity to learn about HP and also to exchange news on the topic.
The European perspective has been visible throughout the course, which I think was one best thing
here. I will stress few issues that I think are important for the development of following courses:
+ all topics were needed and interesting/liked all lecturers
+ some rest days (weekends) were crucial
+ group work tough but challenging and good learning experience. Intercultural working is harder
than I thought.
- Italian unorganised environment shocked-information was poorly disseminated, lack of English
speaking people! Country profile info was controversial.
- Felt sometimes a bit bored as materials were elementary, (and I work as a PhD Student): I would
like to learn more detailed issues, more debates and theory developments.
- Power Point Presentations would have been useful to get beforehand.
That's about it! All the best for the autumn and take care.
My evaluation
Content of the course: very comprehensive.
Teaching: very well prepared lectures and handouts
Literature: very difficult to access; it would be very helpful for the group work to have (at least) basic
literature.
Group work: it was very difficult working in a group which constituted of participants from different
cultures, backgrounds, age etc, but at the same time it was very interesting and challenging. I
considered that number of participants in the group was work was big; also I feel that for more effective
group work there should be more facilitation.
It was a great experience working in very mixed group. I feel I have gained a lot from both lectures and
group work.
9

Dear tutors,
I think that these days have been one opportunity for to have news knowledge’s of health promotion.
The methodology has been excellent. I'm very happy because I have met some persons with a big heart
as Klaus, Goga, Phil and Mie.
Thank you very much to all people.
Dear tutors,
The time to say «Good bye» has arrived. We have had time for studying for groups agree, for enjoying
everything we have spent. But quiet time to see Cagliari and its surroundings. It has been a good
experience even being far from the University, from the centre of the town, for the bus, not comfortable
streets (but beautiful) not comfortable rooms, and a very hard work to do. Thank you for your
understanding; all of you have been so nice.
Of course, best wishes to you, but warm greetings for Klaus, Goga and Concha.
My feedback
It has been two interesting and intensive weeks in Cagliari. I have enjoined these two weeks and learnt
a lot about Health Promotion and health care systems in Europe. It was interesting to hear about health
promotion activities in other European countries. The course was very informative and good.
At the mean time it was a pleasure to meet new friends from Europe and make contacts with new
colleagues. I hope we can develop a further network in future. I am happy with these weeks in Cagliari
and I have enjoined my residence in Sardinia-Italy.
I thank the staff at Universita Degli Studi Cagliari Departamento Di Sanita Pubblica for their hospitality.
Dear Tutors,
I would just like to thank you for my participation in the course. I really enjoyed it and found the
experience fantastic. I thought the lectures were great, very creative but also very informative though I
enjoyed the first week of lectures much more than the second.
Dear Tutors,
Thank you for this proper block on which I do write now my last evaluation of the summer school.
I feel happy about the opportunity to have come and meet so intensively people from European
countries. I didn't expect so a great ???I do thank the Italian stuff, very helpful to resolve problems and
??? questions.
Our group and I also, we expected to get a large presentation of ??? tutorial group, by ??? more and
deeper as we did. I don't understand why we (you made it going so fast. We would use 3 hours (6x30
for 1). After that we could find enough time to see the evaluation papers filled out by other groups.
The idea how to do the evaluation of the project was great, but the way that we made it on Thursday
wasn't good. May be the tutors felt tired and wished coming to the end as soon as possible. But after 2
weeks of hard and working together there were not much value and appreciation at the end.
For other topics a lot has been mentioned already. I don't repeat it. But may I suggest a few things for
the next generation.
• Keep attention of the number of participants and try to involve them in what could be discussed
and teacher.
• If possible, try finding out what are their expectations to come to (this) summer school. E.g.
short questions sent by e-mail
• Participation in teaching process
• Try to offer a «small breakfast» for coffee break. Instead of dolce (which I liked and took them
because I felt hungry) make it simple: only bread and some fruits
• Healthy food-five a day
10

• Try to organise drinks/water when the arrival is on Sunday and every shop is closed. Somebody
of the reception would have bought some bottle of water and sell them on the arrival at the
reception.
• Welcome attention-quality of life
• I thank you very much
Dear tutors,
First thank for giving me the opportunity to get to know a lot of clever people from a lot of different
countries.
There have been a great variety of subjects on the agenda and it must have been a lot of work to give it
all a higher meaning.
I now feel that I have more knowledge within the field of HP. And is eager to learn more…
The accommodation was all right but it would have been nice if the owens worked and we had things for
cleaning.
The institute didn't really meet my expectations of an European University the rooms are to small for
such big groups and it was hard to work with the few computers available. Luckily some of us borrowed
laptop from the tutors. Maybe you could recommend the participants to bring their own laptop in the
future if the course has to be held in a place like this, and then there would probably be more smiling.
The professor Contu I think you did a lot of work to get this summer course working. But sometimes I felt
that there was a blocker on the communication line between you-the students-participating professors
that could have been avoided if there had been an instruction session in five minutes every morningmaybe!
Else great work!
Hope to see you all in the future-who know?
Dear tutors!
It's Friday, I'm lying at the beach enjoying the sun and the sea.
I look back and think about the last two weeks.
Here is a short list about my reflections:
Positive:
• Intercultural exchange
• More experiences in international/European group work
• Exchange of different knowledge (participants)
• Welcome-dinner, and I hope also the farewell dinner
• Daily division of lectures, country profiles and group works (project)
Negative:
• Arrival at the Casa dello studente
• Lack of information before coming here
• Country profiles
• Living conditions
• Working conditions
• Students and tutors list
Ad working conditions:
• Not enough computers
• Rooms to small for 45 students
• Essential working materials (flip-chart, paper, etc.) not available
• Great pressure in the project groups
Ad living conditions:
• No possibilities to clean the bathroom and kitchen
11

• Unfriendly personal at the receptions + no language-knowledge
• Exaggerate information were missing
• Uncoordinated summer school
• Many problems and stress could be prevented in advance
• Bad quality of lunch in the second week
• Evaluation forms
• Not enough time for the discussions/reflections about the project presentations
Lectures:
• Only basics for young students
• Where were the European dimensions (content of lectures)
• Missing exchange between professionals in the course and also between students and tutors
• I expected more news about public health and health promotion in Europe and not only basics
Project groups:
• Stress
• No leading
• Bad working conditions
• Several students did nothing (and get the EC points?!)
• Bad evaluation of the project work
Alibi-photo in front of a building we had never seen before from inside
Now I want to finish my reflections, because I want to enjoy the day in order to regain my energy I have
lost in the last two weeks.
When I'll go home I'll take many experiences from Cagliari and The Summer School.
Dear tutors,
Then were no questions about the expectations of the participants at the beginning of the course.
The course room was really insufficient.
I missed the discussion with the often participants about their experiences with health promotion (during
the course, not in the evening).
The lectures got the participants a lot of basics in health promotion but no new idea about the state of
the science and no initial view about the future prospects at health promotion in Europe.
The organisation of our project presentations was bad. There was too less time for discussing and there
was not a good atmosphere because the location. It's a pity. Each of us had so much work. All together
I can say, it was an interesting experience for me. Thanks a lot to all tutors who were (except of Paolo)
very committed.
Dear tutors,
I don't think this is a very appropriate and serious way to do an evaluation of a two-week summer
school. Nevertheless here are my impressions and my evaluation:
To meet and to work together on a project with people of so many different countries and very special
experience. It's a little bit similar to social capital: the more you give in, the more you get back-like a
magic pudding.
I think the Sardinia is nice island, but somehow I missed the hospitality:
• Arriving alla casa dello studente-nobody was to give a worm welcome or a drink
• Quite friendly stuff at the reception when is need of something
• Food especially in the second week was much below average, very disappointing
• Organization of poster presentation: I missed the feeling of celebration, very cold atmosphere
• No recommendations of places to visit on weekends, expositions going on etc.
Organization before and during summer school:
12

• Very bad organization before summer school, I sent a few e-mails and I didn't get answers in
time
• Start always late (more because of tutors than of students)
• Not really adequate working conditions
• Some (few) people don't speak and understand enough English, they therefore didn't contribute
much to the group project but they all get the certificate (esp. Italians)
Quality of lectures:
• Very different, at least half of the lectures were just «standard lectures» rather for young
students beginners than for experienced practitians, nothing new, no further reflections-not
adequate at least for a part of the students
• I missed to what is actually going on now in Europe in the field of HP, what's the actual state of
the HP, what the HP is…
• Very good lectures from Bengt, Ebenhalt, Klaus (a lot of things to reflect on), but not really new
since already having had their lectures…
Personal gain:
• A lot if investment (time, resources…)
• Gain of group projects: learnt a lot, was a very good group, very nice people, good to work with
• Got to know a lot of people, also for the future
• Very good group processes-learnt a lot about myself
• Very good tutor sin project group (Goga, Ebenhalt)
I'm looking now forward to the farewell time
The welcome dinner was very nice and very good, nice atmosphere.
Dear tutors,
I would just like to thank you for my participation in the course. I really enjoyed it and found the
experience fantastic. I thought the lectures were great, very creative, but also very informative, though I
enjoyed the first week of lectures much was tough he begun with, but it came together brilliantly in the
end (at least in my evaluation). The course was handwork, and no holiday, but the people I met and
experience I got made it all so worth wide. I attend, particularly as its in Germany. This is only a very
much I have enjoyed the course, but its 7 o'clock and I've now get the certification. I hope to see you all
next year in Germany, if not before. Thanks again.
First week evaluation, Cagliari 2003
Pre-course
preparation
(distance
learning)
POSITIVE
Made it possible to be good
prepared.
Background materials very good.
Interesting background readings.
Good introduction to health
promotion.
Good preparation for the course.
Good idea.
Thinking about course.
Good reading materials.
Nice way to motivate to learn
more about own country.
Good challenges.
Nice to get more knowledge of
your own country.
OK
The preparation/information
details was very useful.
Overview of the main topics of
health promotion.
Useful background.
Good to do prior to coming on
course as to increase
understanding/awareness of
country and health promotion.
Gave us initiative to explore own
country profile properly.
Interesting to listen to the other
countries profiles.
Interesting topic which took a lot
of time.
It enhances motivation to attend
the actual course.
Gives an idea of the context of the
course.
To be informed and to get
interested in.
Very stimulating process.
A preparation was very helpfull
for the course.
NEGATIVE
Not clearly defined what to do.
Not to much discussion about the
recommended literature.
No feed-back (individual) about
the work
No clear instructions even I asked
for.
Lot of work.
Assignment was not clear.
It was not clear that we have to
present the country profile in front
of the course.
Hard work but no individual feedback.
A lot of work.
Assignment was not clear in terms
of presenting the country profile.
Unclear instructions for the
assignment.
Why you did not explain that we
will have a country profile in front
of the group?
Country presentation was not
clear.
To be directed more to the content
of the course.
It was not linked enough to what
we learn in the course.
So big task that it is obvious that it
can't be done complete.
Not clear about the peparation of
the presentation would like to have
made it before arrival to Cagliari.
No detailed into about
presentation.
In the emails they gave us
contradictory information
sometimes.
Lacks of information (country
profile presentation, nutrition).
Not enough initial guidance on
what was required.
Arrived to late, and we should
have received information on the
other participants from our country
so we could have worked together

Settings
OK
Nicely situated in town. Student
accomodation is nice.
Great.
Good food.
Good place where to do group
work.
OK, nice town and the institute.
Close to town, nice rooms.
OK
Mixed project groups
Nice participants from EU
countries.
In Italy!
Lovely area.
Teaching rooms are OK
Refreshing foreign culture.
Nice temperature and walking
distance to the university from
resistence.
Spliting the group into two makes
it a good lecture group.
The games how we were splited
very nice.
from the start.
Confusing instructions.
The organization of the first day at
the residence was not good –
waiting several hours to receive
keys to our rooms without water or
food and I did not know where to
go.
Noisy and hot rooms.
Lack of computer/Internet access.
No library.
Just a few computers in school.
School very far from the
residence.
Noisy rooms at residence.
More computers!
No library.
To small and to noisy rooms.
Bad accommodation in the
residence.
Noisy rooms during lessons.
Lack of black-boards to work in
groups.
Elevator is not working, rooms for
teaching are to small.
Not enough computers.
The kitchen-oven plates doesn't
work.
Computers!!!
Lot of noise in Casa della studente.
45 participants in a small room.
Rooms are too small.
Confusion about breakfast.
No flipcharts.
Room for tutorial quite small.
No toilette papers in residence.
Elevator in residence.
Smoking indoors.
Have to bee out from the
university until 7 p.m.
University closed in the weekend.
Program
Good mixture of basic outlines and
somehow «the state of art» in
health promotion.
Very relevant subjects.
Having both lectures and project
group.
Very long daily.
P.C and his Power-Point
presentation.
The program is to big.
Many hours of lessons each day.
To much work.

Good balance between lectures
and group work.
The programme covered several
interesting topics.
Well prepared teachers. Interesting
points.
Very interesting lectures.
PBL is a good idea – good to talk
about and discussed things with
people from different countries.
Objectives well defined.
Good.
Excellent!
Very interesting lectures. I am
learning a lot.
It is interesting to hear the country
profile.
Interesting and useful lectures.
Country profile is good.
Well structured.
Lectures wery well prepared and
very useful.
Well linked to the group work,
chronologicaly.
Very interesting.
Lots of new knowledge.
Interesting lectures.
Good idea with fieldtrip.
OK
Very good.
Country profiles.
Good mixture of lecture and
tutorial work.
Seems to be well planned and
most of the lectures so far have
been really good.
Good program and good lectures.
Interesting topics.
Interseting country profiles.
Too much program.
Long.
Need a break between morning
and afternoon work (not only
eating).
Confusing and somethimes nonorganized.
Maybe you could takes some
groupwork in the morning and
lectures in the afternoon, then
there would be more available
computers.
Too long.
Some lectures are poor, e.g. didn't
point out the topic.
Could some of tutorial groups be
time tabled for mornings?
Not in schedule.
Most of the contents from lectures
is known..
Materials
Relevant.
OK
Appriciate getting handouts.
OK
Useful texts.
Good help from professors and
tutors.
OK
Handouts very good.
Some information about Cagliari
either by e-mail/post or at least at
first arriving day is important.
Difficult to get.
Lack of computers.
I would like to get handouts before
the lectures so I can write notes on
them.
Lack of computers.

OK
Good.
Good handouts.
Good range of different materials
zsed during lectures.
I like how we are provided with
handouts after the lecture.
Nice materials (hardcopies from
lectures).
Positive to get handouts from
lectures.
Help of the tutors.
Difficult to get extra materials –
very limited time in accessing
Internet.
Need of a list of books interesting
given at the begining of the course.
Need of a place to access literature
(not only Internet).
Materials would have been
prepared before.
To many papers, better CD-rom.
PC Powerpoint presentations.
Not enough computers.
More and faster computors!
Computers!!!
Slow Internet access and difficult
to review articles at Medline.
Not appropriated to the needs of
the group.
Personal feelings
Very pleasant course. Nice people.
To get impressions from new
people/friends/countries.See all
my studentwork in a new context!
The project is very useful.
Great to meet other HP people and
share experiences.
I am feeling I am learning a lot.
Enjoyed country profile & meeting
people from other countries.
Excellent mixture of the tutorial
groups.
Great to meet people from other
European countries.
Very interesting course.
Lot of things learned.
Very interesting working in group.
Enjoying.
Good to meet new people and to
learn about HP in different
countries.
Getting a new ways of looking at
different subjects.
OK
I am feeling very good.
Intercultural exchange.
Foreign language competences.
Good! Some minor things with
To much time for transportation
between different places. The
lunch probably could be offered at
the school.
Distance between the school and
the residence to long.
Very hot.
To have more time to explore the
region/ Sardinia.
Tired.
I was expected some basic info
about Cagliari and accommodation
in advance.
I expected an organized sigh-seeng
tour in the afternoon/weekend.
Missing home and family.
Unsuitable welcome.
Stressed.
Hard work.
It is lot of work, and access to the
building and the computers sh0uld
be longer…
First day confusing.

organization and late starts.
Otherwise, the course is what I
expected.
Nice to be here!
Inspired by listening and
participating in international
discussions about health
promotion.
Nice to meet so many people from
different countries.
I like Cagliari!
I like the opportunity to meet
people from different countries.
I like the experience of working
with people with different
backgrounds . it is a great
opportunity!
Really, really enjoying the
course!!!
I learned so much, particularly
from the international colleagues.
Others:
More information for the arrival in Casa della studente – they don't speak English!
A little paper with information: opening hours-shops, cleaning rooms, etc.
I think some information in English about Cagliari could be useful to have before the course.
A list of participants and their countries could be appreciated before the course.
It could be sent previously the map with the places on city where we could buy food, list of
restaurances, the distance from the school and residency…
The food of lunch is good and we have the opportunity to taste traditional local food.
Computers drive me mad!
I am a little bit worried about next week. That is why materials were chosen negative.
Can we have/make a list of participants so we can keep in touch?
Negative that breakfast was not included at student residence.
We still have no list of participants and tutors.
Group work is a good learning process.
