How Can I Help?
Dear HuntonBrady,
The holidays were a solemn time for us. By now, you have no doubt heard
about the unexpected death of our friend and President, Fred H.
Pryor, Jr., AIA, on December 4, 2005. This issue has links to a few of the
news articles about Fred’s passing. Following his death, we had an
outpouring of emotion and goodwill toward our firm. We already knew
what a gem we had in Fred, but it was great to hear about the positive
role he played in so many people’s lives. We will share your kind words
with Fred’s wife Angela and his sons Fred III, Owen and Evan.
Fred left us at an exciting time for the firm. We had just received word
that the University of Florida selected HuntonBrady to design their
new Biomedical Science building in Gainesville, a $65 million
project. We’ve teamed with Lockheed Martin on $50 million in projects
over the next 5 years. Orange County Public Schools recently selected
us to design a new elementary school prototype for the school system.
The future is bright for HuntonBrady Architects.
Fred’s passing also marks a change in management. The Principals of
HuntonBrady Architects are pleased to announce that Chuck Cole,
AIA, will take the helm as President. Maurizio Maso, AIA, will continue
in his role as Education & Design Principal. Andy Sexton will continue as
Operations Principal. And Steve Belflower will be expanding his role as
Principal of Commercial Office Projects.
Many of you already know Chuck as our Principal of Healthcare
Design, and he will continue in that role, as well. He's built our
healthcare division into a highly successful, award winning team. His years

of experience with us, and as a Principal, Director of Design, and
Management Committee member while at HLM, make him well qualified to
lead our firm. We’re excited about the future at HuntonBrady Architects.
How Our LEED Accredited
Staff Can Benefit Your
Business
Here's wishing you and yours a Happy New Year and a prosperous 2006.
HuntonBrady Interior Designer Kristin
V. M. Brown, IIDA, now holds the
distinction of being one of only two
interior designers in Florida who
are LEED Accredited, and the only
interior designer to hold the
certification in Central Florida. Kristin
recently earned her Leadership in
Energy and Environmental Design
(LEED) accreditation from the United
States Green Building Council (USGBC).
The LEED Green Building Rating
System® is a voluntary, consensusbased
national standard for
designing high-performance,
sustainable buildings that are
sensitive to the environment. Green
buildings are evaluated in six
categories: sustainable sites, water
efficiency, energy and atmosphere,
materials and resources, indoor
environmental quality, and innovation
and design process. LEED Accredited
Professionals have the knowledge and
skills necessary in green building design
and construction, are familiar with LEED
resources and processes, understand
the life cycle cost and benefits of LEED,
and can streamline the documentation
process for LEED Certified projects.
LEED Certified buildings don't cost as
much as once thought, in part because
of the boomer generation's recent
embrace of the green movement to
save on energy costs. For marginally
higher construction expenses, your
building can save significant
amounts on energy and electricity
by using an expert like Kristin to
help you "go green." Healthier
buildings also mean healthier
employees, and money saved in the
long run from employees that don't
Chuck Cole was a featured speaker
at the Healthcare Design 2005
Conference in Scotsdale, Arizona
this November along with Florida
Hospital's Randy Hafner, Sr. Vice
President & COO, and Tim
Burrill, Asst. Vice President
(pictured here) .The team's
standing-room-only presentation,
"Second Opinions in Healthcare Design: The Florida Hospital
Experience" detailed the positive influence that design contrarians had
during the design phase of the new 15-story Patient Tower, which will
break ground in 2008.
• A Dramatically Different UCF Student Health Center
UCF Students are excited about the
new Student Health Center we
designed with Mateu Architecture.
The three-story, 48,000 sf building
opened for services in October.
Three times as big as the former
location, the new Student Health
Center offers 48 exam rooms, a
laboratory, expanded pharmacy,
massage therapy rooms and special
areas for women’s health and sports
medicine. Read more about it in UCF's News For Neighbors.
