STUDY PERMIT EXTENSION – ONLINE APPLICATION<br />

Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC) encourages international students to apply <strong>online</strong> for<br />

the Study Permit <strong>extension</strong> at least two months before the original <strong>permit</strong>’s Expiry date.<br />

Click on the following URL for NEW procedures to establish your GCKey Log in. If you currently<br />

have an Access Key please re‐enroll in order to access CIC services.<br />

A MyCIC account is only required if you are submitting an <strong>online</strong> <strong>application</strong>. CIC requires the<br />

use of an electronic credential to use your MyCIC account such as the: GCKey or Sign‐In Partner<br />

‐‐SecureKey Concierge for <strong>online</strong> payments.<br />

(Go to Register/Login) Register, set up your ID, Password and four security questions on the<br />

system. Also, have your eight digit Client ID number on your Study Permit available i.e. 0000‐<br />

0000.<br />

When you complete your GCKey login, select the option to apply for renewal of your Study<br />

Permit. To complete this portion of the <strong>application</strong>, you will need to have the following<br />

documents scanned as individual files in .pdf format in order to upload them to the system.<br />

When you are scanning, make sure they are individual files and not one long file. You can save<br />

these separate files to your computer or onto a USB device that can store files until you are<br />

ready to upload them from any computer.<br />

Files to scan in .pdf format:<br />

1) Your passport picture page;<br />

2) Your current Study Permit;<br />

3) “Proof Letter” from <strong>Seneca</strong> stating that you are a student in good standing and have<br />

paid your fees for the semester; and<br />

4) A letter from your bank stating that you have more than $5,000 in your account.<br />

Request your Proof Letter from International Student Services Welcome Centre, Building D<br />

2000 at Newnham Campus. It may take up to 14 days to produce the letter depending on<br />

demand. The envelope will say “Do Not Open”; however, you will have to open the letter in<br />

order to scan it.<br />

Payment<br />

Once you have completed the renewal process, there are two ways to pay for the new Study<br />

Permit.<br />

Online with a valid Credit Card<br />

OR<br />

Pay at the bank with the payment form (IMM 5401) ordered <strong>online</strong> from CIC.<br />

Scan and upload this form with your <strong>online</strong> <strong>application</strong>.<br />

The Renewal of a Study Permit costs CAN $125.00<br />

Once CIC has approved your <strong>extension</strong>, you should receive the new Study Permit in the mail.<br />

Processing times depend on the time of year, and volume of requests. You can check<br />

<strong>application</strong> processing times on the CIC website.<br />

RESTORATION: EXPIRED STUDY PERMITS<br />

NOTE: If your Study Permit has expired, you can still submit an <strong>application</strong> within 90 days after<br />

the expiry date of your <strong>permit</strong>. You require a valid Study Permit to continue your studies in<br />

Canada. The fee for doing this is another $200. In total, you will have to pay $325.00. NOTE:<br />

You may not <strong>study</strong> while you are in Restoration until you receive your new Study Permit.<br />

If your Study Permit has expired and it is past the 90‐day late period, you must return home.<br />

You can apply for a new <strong>permit</strong> from your home country.<br />

Citizenship & Immigration (CIC) prefers that all questions be directed to them by phone only.<br />

CIC is available from 8 am to 4 pm. Early in the morning and later in the day are the best times<br />
