STUDY PERMIT EXTENSION – ONLINE APPLICATION
Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC) encourages international students to apply online for
the Study Permit extension at least two months before the original permit’s Expiry date.
Click on the following URL for NEW procedures to establish your GCKey Log in. If you currently
have an Access Key please re‐enroll in order to access CIC services.
A MyCIC account is only required if you are submitting an online application. CIC requires the
use of an electronic credential to use your MyCIC account such as the: GCKey or Sign‐In Partner
‐‐SecureKey Concierge for online payments.

(Go to Register/Login) Register, set up your ID, Password and four security questions on the
system. Also, have your eight digit Client ID number on your Study Permit available i.e. 0000‐
0000.
When you complete your GCKey login, select the option to apply for renewal of your Study
Permit. To complete this portion of the application, you will need to have the following
documents scanned as individual files in .pdf format in order to upload them to the system.
When you are scanning, make sure they are individual files and not one long file. You can save
these separate files to your computer or onto a USB device that can store files until you are
ready to upload them from any computer.
Files to scan in .pdf format:
1) Your passport picture page;
2) Your current Study Permit;
3) “Proof Letter” from Seneca stating that you are a student in good standing and have
paid your fees for the semester; and
4) A letter from your bank stating that you have more than $5,000 in your account.
Request your Proof Letter from International Student Services Welcome Centre, Building D
2000 at Newnham Campus. It may take up to 14 days to produce the letter depending on
demand. The envelope will say “Do Not Open”; however, you will have to open the letter in
order to scan it.

Payment
Once you have completed the renewal process, there are two ways to pay for the new Study
Permit.
Online with a valid Credit Card
OR
Pay at the bank with the payment form (IMM 5401) ordered online from CIC.

Scan and upload this form with your online application.
The Renewal of a Study Permit costs CAN $125.00
Once CIC has approved your extension, you should receive the new Study Permit in the mail.
Processing times depend on the time of year, and volume of requests. You can check
application processing times on the CIC website.

RESTORATION: EXPIRED STUDY PERMITS
NOTE: If your Study Permit has expired, you can still submit an application within 90 days after
the expiry date of your permit. You require a valid Study Permit to continue your studies in
Canada. The fee for doing this is another $200. In total, you will have to pay $325.00. NOTE:
You may not study while you are in Restoration until you receive your new Study Permit.
If your Study Permit has expired and it is past the 90‐day late period, you must return home.
You can apply for a new permit from your home country.
Citizenship & Immigration (CIC) prefers that all questions be directed to them by phone only.
CIC is available from 8 am to 4 pm. Early in the morning and later in the day are the best times
