Designed to satisfy anglers who aren’t easily satisfied
We know that when it comes to your tackle, you want products that do what they
need to, and do it well. We share that passion. From the sophisticated rod testing
machines in our factory, to the not so sophisticated ‘hosepipe test’ for waterproofs,
all of our products are put through their paces in development – and of course that
includes 100s of hours on the bank, in the hands of anglers.
This catalogue showcases the highlights of our 2013 range. To view the full range and
GREYS FLY FISHING CATALOGUE 2013 / RODS
XF2 SINGLE HANDED
The XF2 Range
A rod for every angler
The XF2 family is a collection of rods
designed for multiple applications
– so you should find there’s a rod
here for you whatever your fly fishing
obsession. From adaptable stillwater
rods to super specialist light-line river
rods there is an XF2 for everyone.
XF2 rods use the latest techniques in fly
rod engineering and technology, and
our experienced engineers and product
developers apply them inside out. But
above all, these rods are designed to fish
with, first and foremost. So we test them,
for hundreds of hours, not only on our
in-house test rigs, but in anglers’ hands,
casting and fishing day after day.
Howard Croston
explains the XF2 fly
rod range
Ultimate River Rods
Whilst many fly rods are suitable for river and stream light line fishing, few
are specifically designed with the application of both traditional and cutting
edge river tactics in mind, the XF2 Streamflex range is one exception to this.
Typically with river fishing, the rod’s ability to deliver a fly accurately at close
range is of far greater importance than its ability to cast great distances.
This requirement of exceptional line control must be carefully balanced
with the need for an efficient hook set and the ability to play often large
fish on light tippets without pulling the hook or fracturing the tippet.
Greys XF2 Streamflex and XF2 Streamflex Plus rods were the result of long
hours of riverside testing in real fishing situations around the world, by some
of the leading anglers in both competition and destination river fishing.
GREYS FLY FISHING CATALOGUE 2013 / RODS
XF2 DOUBLE HANDED
FROM
£349.99
Much work went into the development of our current
range of Greys Salmon rods. The T-Series has been
designed with a more forgiving action, making it easy to
bend, flex, or load the rod properly when using the most
common, longer, casting stroke. If however, you use a
shorter, Scandi style, casting stroke along with shorter fly
lines, then the S-Series will probably suit you better.
My advice would be to buy what feels right for your
personal casting style, also, the size of river and species
you are fishing for..
Ian Gordon — Hardy & Greys Salmon Consultant
The XF2 Range
XF2 S Series
Designed to be used with the underhand
or Scandinavian style of cast, with shorter
casting strokes. S-Series rods have a crisp
and fast action, but bend smoothly into the
butt for high performance casting. Shorter,
‘Scandi-style’ handle.
• Familiar feel to anglers used to
underhand casting techniques
• Crisp and fast action delivers an
outstanding level of performance with
short Spey and shooting head lines
• Slightly softer in the butt and
much stiffer in the tip
• Shorter upper and lower handles
XF2 T Series
Designed to complement traditional top-handdominant,
longer casting strokes. T-Series rods have
a progressive, full flexing action that loads deeper
into the butt for easy and effortless casting. Provides
performance at short distances as well as longer range.
• For anglers used to longer, more
traditional casting strokes
• User friendly action—progressive and
full flexing with so much in reserve
• Much softer tip and slightly stiffer butt
GRXi+ / GS / GS2
GRXi+
Our best selling fly rod, the GRXi+ is a great value, great
all-rounder. This rod punches above its weight compared
to other rods in its class. The fast recovering blank is
capable of very high line speeds and tight loops, making
this a much loved rod with a wide range of anglers.
An easy, forgiving action
that suits virtually anyone’s
casting style
If you are looking to use only one rod on a reservoir, with
which you can switch lines and maintain performance, this
would be a good choice.
Chris Ogborne — Hardy & Greys Consultant
Part of my job as a fishing guide is to point people in
the right direction when it comes to tackle choice and
in the vast majority of cases the recommendation is
straightforward—just look at the GRXi+ range.
There’s a good reason why these rods are best sellers.
There is a rod for every discipline, they have an easy,
forgiving action that suits virtually anyone’s casting
style, and above all they’re phenomenal value for
money. For river, lake, or saltwater fly there is simply
nothing to touch them at the price and as a pro-guide I
just know my customers will be happy.
A good value cassette reel with smooth drag that comes with
three spools—perfect to get you set up with a floating, sinking and
intermediate fly line to cover a multitude of fishing situations.
Line
Start by buying a floating line—it covers most fishing situations,
and you can add polytips or a long leader for when you need to
fish a little deeper. The Platinum is our best seller.
4
Net and Kit Bag
Look for a landing net with rubberised mesh as it’s
kinder to fish and easier to clean. Keep your gear
organised in a water resistant bag—one with adjustable
inner compartments keeps all your tackle organised.
Accessories
D-Barbing pliers that incorporate a scissor blade will be enough
to get started, for crushing barbed hooks, and snipping leader.
Pin to your jacket with a retractor so it’s always to hand.
Choose flies that are recommended for your
chosen fishery. The GS Fly box will keep them neat.
For your leader we recommend GX Fluorocarbon
in 4lb–8lb breaking strain.
Strata Jacket & Overtrousers
Staying warm on dry on the bank will help you get the
most enjoyment from your fishing. Our clothing is specially
designed with anglers needs in mind. Think big pockets for
fly boxes, and a special Tool Tab to pin your retractor without
damaging the waterproof layer.
