The Lee Kong Chian Research Fellowship<br />

welcomes three new Research<br />

Fellows, Ms Milallos Ma Theresa (<strong>the</strong><br />

Philippines), Dr Zhang Liyan (China)<br />

and Ms Phoon Kwee Hian (<strong>Singapore</strong>),<br />

who were awarded <strong>the</strong>ir Fellowship<br />

by Ms Ngian Lek Choh, Director<br />

of <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Library</strong>, on 25<br />

March 2008, 3 April 2008 and 16<br />

April 2008 respectively.<br />

Ms Milallos Ma Theresa is an instructor<br />

in Political Science and International<br />

Relations at <strong>the</strong> University<br />

of <strong>the</strong> Philippines, Baguio and has<br />

a Masters in International Studies<br />

from <strong>the</strong> College of Social Sciences<br />

and Philosophy, University of Philippines-Diliman.<br />

Her research topic is<br />

on “Women and Islam in Pre-colonial<br />

Sou<strong>the</strong>ast Asia”.<br />

Dr Zhang Liyan is <strong>the</strong> Chairperson<br />

of <strong>the</strong> “Young Scholars’ Tribune”<br />

at Tianjin University of Finance and<br />

Economics and has a PhD in Management<br />

from Nankai University,<br />

Tianjin. Her research topic is “Social<br />

Innovation in <strong>Singapore</strong>: The Role<br />

of Non-Governmental Organisations<br />

(NGOs)”.<br />

Ms Phoon Kwee Hian is <strong>the</strong> Director<br />

and Chief Editor of Candid Creation<br />

Publishing LLP. She has completed<br />

her Bachelors of Arts (Chinese<br />

Language and Literature) from Beijing<br />

Normal University in 2004 and<br />

is currently pursuing a joint Masters/<br />

Doctorate degree from Xiamen University<br />

(2004-2008). Ms Phoon will<br />

be researching on “A Study on Chinese<br />

<strong>Singapore</strong>an Modernist Literary<br />

Movement”.<br />

The <strong>National</strong> <strong>Library</strong>, <strong>Singapore</strong><br />

welcomes talented scholars and researchers<br />

to use our resources and<br />

services, and to collaborate with<br />

us on joint research projects to create<br />

new knowledge. The Lee Kong<br />

Chian Research Fellowship is open<br />

to both local and foreign applicants,<br />

who should preferably have an established<br />

record of achievement in<br />

<strong>the</strong>ir chosen field of research and <strong>the</strong><br />

potential to excel fur<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
