air; motes of dust long landed, one atop <strong>the</strong><br />

o<strong>the</strong>r, to form weird geometrical, precarious<br />

objects. Materialised echoes of <strong>the</strong> objects<br />

beneath. Your head turns dumbly, your gaze<br />

focussed on somewhere <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r side of <strong>the</strong><br />

wall; somewhere in <strong>the</strong> street outside, in <strong>the</strong><br />

drain. In a fucking bank.<br />

2222 BCThe patron saint of ex-bankers, ex-prostitutes,<br />

your exes, <strong>the</strong>ir exes, ex-planets.<br />

2667A youthful magician holds a small red ball<br />

between his white-gloved left thumb and<br />

forefinger. He apparently takes <strong>the</strong> ball from<br />

<strong>the</strong> left hand with his right. Secretly he has<br />

performed The French Drop; <strong>the</strong> ball is still<br />

in his left hand.<br />

The ninety-eigth The capable magician performs <strong>the</strong> apparent<br />

centurytaking<br />

of <strong>the</strong> ball exactly as he would if he<br />

were ACTUALLY taking <strong>the</strong> ball. He does<br />

not put stress on <strong>the</strong> sleight. He gives but<br />

casual, passing attention to his sinister hand.<br />

His eyes rest momentarily upon <strong>the</strong> ball as he<br />

reaches for it. Then his eyes follow <strong>the</strong> right<br />

hand, follow it naturally, convincingly, just as<br />

<strong>the</strong>y would if he ACTUALLY seized <strong>the</strong> ball
