Cu peste două milenii în urmă, atrași de clima îngăduitoare și
frumuseţea regiunii, romanii au fondat aici localitatea pe care au
botezat-o Lugdunum. Așezarea a cunoscut timp de trei secole
înflorirea economică, militară şi religioasă. O dată cu decăderea
Imperiului Roman, aceste teritorii îşi pierd importanţa. Abia în
secolul al XI-lea începe o nouă perioadă de prosperitate, ce
atinge apogeul în Renaştere. Până în secolul al XVIII-lea, zona
cunoaşte o evoluţie interesantă, atât din punct de vedere cultural,
cât şi economic. Se deschid aici sedii de bănci, industria
manufacturieră înflorește, comerţul și celebra mătase lyoneză
duc faima acestui oraş fascinant în toate colţurile lumii.
Istoria nu a ocolit orașul nici în secolul al XX-lea, ba chiar l-a adus
în prim-plan. La Lyon s-a aflat nucleul Rezistenţei în faţa
ocupaţiei germane, în timpul celui de-al doilea Război Mondial.
De altfel “traboules”, reţeaua de pasaje secrete ce a salvat un
număr impresionant de oameni de persecuţiile Gestapo-ului,
poate fi văzută şi astăzi. Iar un oraș cu o asemenea istorie nu putea
să nu dea și personalităţi pe măsură. Doi împăraţi romani,
Caracalla şi Claudius, dar si fraţii Lumière, Antoine de Saint-
Exupery, Rabelais sau Andre Marie Ampère s-au născut aici.
PREZENTUL UNUI ORAȘ CU TRADIŢIE
Împărţit în nouă arondismente, fiecare cu farmecul său, oraşul
este divizat de cele două cursuri de ape, Rhône şi Saône, ce
îmbrăţişează Presqu’ile. Pe partea râului Saône se află oraşul
vechi, cu dealul Fourviere, Bazilica Notre Dame şi suburbia
La Croix-Rousse. Deoarece orașul vechi este înscris în
patrimoniul UNESCO, un număr impresionant de turişti este
atras aici în fiecare an.
Pentru 9 euro poţi face o plimbare cu vaporaşul pe Saône,
având astfel şansa de a percepe acest magnific oraş dintr-o
altă perspectivă. De asemenea, în fiecare duminică se
desfăşoară pe Quai de Bondy, pe malul râului Saône, o piaţă

Over two thousand years ago, attracted by the mild climate and
beauty of the region, Romans founded here the colony
Lugdunum. The place went through an economic, military and
religious boom for three centuries. Once the Roman Empire fell,
these territories lost their importance. Only in the 11th century
did a new time of prosperity begin, reaching a new peak during
the Renaissance. Until the 18th century, the area had an
interesting evolution, both culturally and economically. Bank
headquarters were open here, while the manufacturing industry
blossomed and trade and the well-known Lyonnais silk helped
spread the fame of this fascinating city to every corner of the
earth. History did not ignore the city in the 20th century either,
it even brought it to the foreground. It was Lyon that hosted the
nucleus of the Resistance to German occupation during World
War II. In fact, the “traboules,” a network of secret passageways
that saved an impressive number of people from Gestapo
persecutions, can still be seen today. And a city with such
history could only give the world equally significant figures. Two
Roman emperors, Caracalla and Claudius, but also the Lumiere
brothers, Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Rabelais or Andre Marie
Ampere were born here.
THE PRESENT OF A CITY WITH TRADITION
Divided into nine arrondissements, each with its own charm,
the city is cut by the two rivers, Rhône and Saône, which
embrace the Presqu’ile. On the side of Saône River lies the
old city, with Fourviere Hill, Notre-Dame Basilica and the
suburb La Croix-Rousse.
Since the old city is part of the UNESCO world heritage, an
impressive number of tourists come here every year. For 9
euros you can go on a boat ride on the Saône, thus getting the
chance to get a different perspective of this magnificent city.
Moreover, every Sunday, Quai de Bondy on the shore of the
Saône hosts an art market and works here are top quality.
