Holul și intrare hotelului la 1900 / The hotel’s lobby and entrance at 1900<br />
Unul dintre locurile favorite ale figurilor regale în căutare<br />
de lux, ale scriitorilor în căutarea inspiraţiei sau ale<br />
spionilor sub acoperire, Pera Palace, hotelul de mister<br />
şi pompă al Istanbulului, a fost redeschis de curând, după un<br />
proces amplu de renovare şi re-design, care i-a redat grandoarea<br />
din anii trecuţi.<br />
Construit la sfârşitul secolului al XIX-lea pentru pasagerii<br />
legendarului Orient Expres, hotelul cu 115 camere a adăpostit<br />
generaţii de oaspeţi iluştri, de la Regele Edward al VII-lea şi<br />
Regina Elisabeta a II-a a Marii Britanii sau Împăratul Austro-<br />
Ungariei Franz Joseph I, până la celebrităţi ale lumii filmului,<br />
cum ar fi Alfred Hitchcock sau Greta Garbo.<br />
Acesta a fost locul unde faimoasa Agatha Christie, unul dintre<br />
clienţii cei mai fideli ai hotelului, a scris romanul „Crima din<br />
Orient Expres”, şi unde se spune că Ernest Hemingway a privit<br />
razele soarelui scăldându-se jucăuşe în apa Cornului de Aur, în<br />
timp ce sorbea dintr-un pahar cu whisky.<br />
Mulţi alţi vizitatori, mai discreţi, au locuit în acest hotel. Se spune<br />
că Kim Philby, un agent dublu britanic care lucra pentru KGB, a<br />
fost oaspete aici la sfârşitul celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial.<br />
Afavourite of royals seeking luxury, writers looking for<br />
the muse and undercover spies, Pera Palace –<br />
Istanbul's hotel of mysteries and pomp – has<br />
reopened after a major facelift to revive its past grandeur.<br />
Built in the late 19th century for the passengers of the<br />
legendary Orient Express, the 115-room hotel has hosted<br />
generations of illustrious guests, from King Edward VIII and<br />
Queen Elizabeth II of Britain or the Austro-Hungarian Emperor<br />
Franz Joseph I, to the likes of Alfred Hitchcock or Greta<br />
Garbo. It was the place where crime writer Agatha Christie,<br />
one of the hotel's most ardent visitors, crafted "Murder on the<br />
Orient Express", and where Ernest Hemingway is said to have<br />
sipped a whisky, watching the sunlight play on the waters of<br />
the Golden Horn.<br />
Other, more discreet visitors also took up residence in the<br />
hotel. Kim Philby, British double agent in the pay of the<br />
KGB, is believed to have been among the guests at the<br />
end of World War II. He was preceded shortly by Elyesa<br />
Bazna, better known by his codename Cicero, in the<br />
service of Nazi Germany, says historian Jak Deleon in his<br />
