Hotelul era odinioară chiar inima „Perlei Orientului”,<br />
cum era cunoscut Shanghaiul în anii ’20 şi ’30, fiind<br />
celebru pentru petrecerile fabuloase pe care le găzduia<br />
şi pentru trupa de jazz care cânta non-stop. Încă de la inaugurarea<br />
sa sub numele de Hotel Cathay, în anul 1929, pe faimosul Bund<br />
din Shanghai, celebra stradă de pe malul Râului Huangpu,<br />
hotelul a fost martor tăcut al tuturor schimbărilor majore prin<br />
care a trecut metropola.<br />
Printre alţi oaspeţi faimoşi ai Peace Hotel s-au numărat George<br />
Bernard Shaw, liderul Partidului Naţionalist Chinez Chiang Kaishek<br />
şi, în vremuri mai recente, celebrul boxer Muhammad Ali<br />
şi fostul preşedinte al Statelor Unite Bill Clinton. Hotelul apare<br />
The hotel was once at the very epicenter of the “Pearl<br />
of the Orient’’, as Shanghai was known in the 1920s<br />
and 30s, and was famous for its fabulous parties<br />
and for a jazz band that would play around the clock. It has<br />
stood silent witness to the city’s many changes since it<br />
opened first as the Cathay Hotel in 1929, positioned on<br />
Shanghai’s famous Bund, famous street on the bank of the<br />
Huangpu river.<br />
Other famous guests of Peace Hotel have included George<br />
Bernard Shaw, Chinese Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek<br />
and, in more recent times, boxer Muhammad Ali and former<br />
