New products for the laboratory
The Analytica in Munich takes place every 2 years. In 2008, the trade show had over 33,000
visitors which clearly makes it the leading international show for laboratory technology, analysis
and quality control, measuring and examination technology and bio-technology, life science and
diagnostics.
As in previous years, Elma presents numerous new products, which make life in a laboratory easier
and are indispensable for specific analysing jobs.

The professional way to use ultrasound in a laboratory
Elma replaces the existing ultrasonic digital DH units
by the completely new Elmasonic P series. The units
are available in six different sizes ranging from 2.7
up to 28 liter tank capacity. As a special feature,
the units are operated and controlled intuitively via
turning knobs and pressure keys. All set and actual
values are clearly readable and indicated simultaneously
in the blue display.
The integrated double frequency can be changed
from 37 to 80 kHz and vice versa. The 37 kHz frequency
has been equipped with considerably more
power than on the Elmasonic S units. The high 80
kHz frequency is exceptionally silent. It creates tiny
cavitational vacuum bubbles which makes it perfect
for the cleaning of very small clearances.
NEW
If more power is needed than the standard operation
generates, the completely new Pulse modulation
can be activated. The peak power output created in
this mode makes the unit ideal for bio-technological
applications or for the dissolving of hardly soluble
substances.
For further laboratory applications the units are also
equipped with sweep and degas mode and with a
power control.

For the use in a laboratory Elma offers two complete unit series, the Elmasonic S and the Elmasonic P series
Which ultrasonic unit is the best for the work in a laboratory?
There is no clear answer to that question,
as the decision for one or the other unit depends on
the laboratory job to be done.
If you need to clean items, degas liquids or dissolve
hardly soluble substances, the universally applicable
Elmasonic S units are perfectly sufficient and can be
quickly and easily operated.
However, if you need to stay within very precise
time limits for specific tests, digital units can be the

Ultrasonic units that have to operate at a powerful
level can be annoying to staff working close
by.
The new noise protection box reduces the noise
by the factor 2 to 3.
As the units produce water vapour during operation,
the box has an integrated and noise-reduced
better choice. The temperature course is indicated
with more detail. The second, higher frequency of
80 kHz allows a virtually silent operation and assists
special laboratory tests. For instance, if a test
requires more flow than cavitation, only the Elmasonic
P units (multi-frequency units) can do this.
The dissolving of hardly soluble substances and the
making of emulsions require a very high ultrasonic
power. For these applications the Pulse mode of
the Elmasonic P units is ideal and also shortens the
operating time.

A practical acrylic glass window allows
the monitoring of all set parameters during
operation.
The box is available in two different sizes.
The application is always the crucial factor in the
decision for one or the other unit. Elmasonic-P is
the more universally applicable laboratory unit, but
the ELmasonic S units can also do most of the laboratory
jobs.

Ultrasound with condensed power for dissolving, mixing and dispersing
The Elmasonic S 150 has a peak power of 1200
Watt. As the transducer tank is only 10 cm deep,
the power density per litre is extremely high.
There is special accessory equipment which can
be screwed to the bottom of the basket to allow
safe fastening of Erlenmeyer flasks. The ultrasound
can safely dissolve, mix or disperse the laboratory
solution, or keep the dispersions stable,
whichever is required.
The unit can also be used for quick degassing:
the laboratory beaker, the samples or the HPLC
solvent are placed into the basket. It is perfectly
sufficient if the beaker is immersed by only 2-3
cm. The ultrasound is safely transmitted and degasses
the solution within a very short time.

Cleaning solutions for the laboratory
The cleaning solutions developed and made by
Elma are the ideal helpers for any intensive cleaning
of laboratory beakers or instruments in Elmasonic
ultrasonic units.
They are perfect for spotless cleaning and meet all
requirements from pH acid via neutral to alkaline
cleaning. In addition, there is a special tenside-free
Cleaning solutions for the laboratory
chemical so that e.g. pipettes are spotlessly clean
without any residues and the readability of reagents
in volumetric measuring instruments is guaranteed.
An important advantage of the complete cleaning
chemical programme is that all chemicals can be
used both in an ultrasonic unit and in a laboratory
rinsing automaton. They are non-foaming above
