(Note: This circular memorandum should be read by heads of all kindergartens, primary and secondary
schools)
Summary
The purpose of this circular memorandum is to invite kindergartens, primary and secondary
schools to participate in the coming educational activities and events organised, co-organised or
announced by the Curriculum Development Institute, Education Bureau. The forthcoming
educational activities and events include Ping Wo Fund School Project Grants 2011-2012, WWF
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Programme - Primary Schools (2011-2012 School
Year), WWF Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Programme - Secondary Schools
(2011-2012 School Year), Applied Learning Scholarship (2010/11 School Year), Chemical Laboratory
Safety Competition 2011, Schools Creative Music Showcase 2011/12 (Primary), Schools Creative
Music Showcase 2011/12 (Secondary), Exhibition of Primary School Students’ Creative Visual Arts

WWF Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Programme
(Primary Schools)
(2011-2012 School Year)
Aims/Objectives
The aims of the captioned Programme are to enhance primary school students’
understanding of our natural environment and ecological footprint, as well as its interaction with
social and economic development.
Details
2. As agreed in the 2002 Johannesburg Earth Summit, 2005 was set as the year to launch the
programme entitled United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (SD). The
objective is to promote the concept of SD through education, which is one of the important strategies
to combat environmental, social and economic problems in the 21st Century. It is hoped that through
international efforts and education, the aim to enhance a better living quality, resources conservation
and global economic development can be achieved.
3. The World Wide Fund For Nature Hong Kong (WWF-Hong Kong) is going to organise five
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) programmes for primary school pupils in the school
year 2011-2012.
4. Details of the ESD programmes are provided in the invitation letter from WWF-Hong Kong
as attached on Appendix 2a - 2g .
5. School heads who wish to participate in these programmes are requested to apply online or
complete the attached application form and return them to WWF. All applications will be processed on
a first-come-first-served basis. The fee for Freshwater and Wetland Primary School Education
Programme is paid by the Education Bureau and the closing date for applications is 30 June 2011.
