Summary<br />

The purpose of this <strong>circular</strong> memor<strong>and</strong>um is to invite kindergartens, primary <strong>and</strong> secondary<br />

schools to participate in the coming <strong>education</strong>al activities <strong>and</strong> events organised, co-organised or<br />

an<strong>no</strong>unced by the Curriculum Development Institute, Education Bureau. The forthcoming<br />

<strong>education</strong>al activities <strong>and</strong> events include Ping Wo Fund School Project Grants 2011-2012, WWF<br />

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Programme - Primary Schools (2011-2012 School<br />

Year), WWF Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Programme - Secondary Schools<br />

(2011-2012 School Year), Applied Learning Scholarship (2010/11 School Year), Chemical Laboratory<br />

Annex 2<br />

WWF Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Programme<br />

(Primary Schools)<br />

(2011-2012 School Year)<br />

Aims/Objectives<br />

The aims of the captioned Programme are to enhance primary school students’<br />

underst<strong>and</strong>ing of our natural environment <strong>and</strong> ecological footprint, as well as its interaction with<br />

social <strong>and</strong> eco<strong>no</strong>mic development.<br />

Details<br />

2. As agreed in the 2002 Johannesburg Earth Summit, 2005 was set as the year to launch the<br />

programme entitled United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (SD). The<br />

objective is to promote the concept of SD through <strong>education</strong>, which is one of the important strategies<br />

to combat environmental, social <strong>and</strong> eco<strong>no</strong>mic problems in the 21st Century. It is hoped that through<br />

international efforts <strong>and</strong> <strong>education</strong>, the aim to enhance a better living quality, resources conservation<br />

<strong>and</strong> global eco<strong>no</strong>mic development can be achieved.<br />

3. The World Wide Fund For Nature Hong Kong (WWF-Hong Kong) is going to organise five<br />

Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) programmes for primary school pupils in the school<br />

year 2011-2012.<br />

4. Details of the ESD programmes are provided in the invitation letter from WWF-Hong Kong<br />

as attached on Appendix 2a - 2g .<br />

5. School heads who wish to participate in these programmes are requested to apply online or<br />

complete the attached application form <strong>and</strong> return them to WWF. All applications will be processed on<br />

a first-come-first-served basis. The fee for Freshwater <strong>and</strong> Wetl<strong>and</strong> Primary School Education<br />

Programme is paid by the Education Bureau <strong>and</strong> the closing date for applications is 30 June 2011.<br />
