HR BBBQ(continued)…
Benefits “U”
The bi-annual personalized Total Rewards Statements will be mailed
out during the first week in December.
Fall is a great time of the year to start a
new fitness program or add some change
to an existing one. Good habits going
into the holiday season will reduce your
stress and make this time of the year
more enjoyable with family and friends.
Here are some ways to get started:
*Take advantage of the weather. The
cool crisp air, rich scents, and pretty
foliage will inspire you to exercise outdoors.
Whether you are walking, hiking,
cycling, or kayaking it’s a great time to
enjoy parks and beaches that are less
crowded. Even raking leaves is great
exercise that can work your whole body
and burn calories.
*Become an active TV watcher. If you’re
sitting down to watch all the new fall
shows, incorporate exercise into your
plans. During commercials you can do
push-ups or sit-ups or use hand weights
to burn some calories while enjoying
your TV episodes.
*Create opportunities for exercise in
your daily routine. Park farther from the
store or take the stairs instead of the
elevator. Enjoy a walk during your lunch
break, it not only gets you moving, it can
clear your mind and increase creativity
for the rest of the afternoon.
*Remember it takes 30 days to create a
new habit so by starting now you are
more likely to stick with it through the
holidays and beyond.
*Strive for the 3 Cs which are convenience,
commitment and consistency. The
easier it is for you to exercise, the better
chances you will be able to stay committed
to the lifestyle change. This commitment
over time will create a consistent
regimen that becomes second nature to
your daily life.
*Find your motivation. Everyone is
moved by different things, for some it is
music, for others it is a small reward for
exercising. Find your muse and incorporate
it into your routine.
Autumn can be a great source of inspiration.
Keep this in mind to change strategies
for dealing with the upcoming busy
holiday season. Get out there, and enjoy
the crisp sights and sounds of the fall.
Your mind, body, and spirit will feel
rejuvenated, and thank you!
FUN FACT:
Research has proven that just two bananas
provide enough energy for a strenuous
90-minute workout. Containing
three natural sugars - sucrose, fructose
and glucose combined with fiber, a
banana gives an instant, sustained and
substantial boost of energy.
Effective January 1, 2012 the supplemental life insurance maximum
benefit will increase from 3 times to 5 times annual salary. Details
about enrollment will be provided to all benefit eligible faculty and staff
in the coming months.
On October 20 th , the IRS announced that the elective deferral contribution
limit for employees who participate in 403(b) plans has increased
from $16,500 to $17,000 for January 1, 2012. The catch-up contribution
limit for those age 50 and over remains unchanged at $5,500. For
further details please contact HR at ext. 2341.
The Personal Health Assessment (PHA) is an on-line health questionnaire
designed to provide you with feedback about your health status,
outline your individual health risks, and offer suggestions to help you
lead a healthier life. Even if you have taken the PHA in the past, it is
important that you perform this quick and easy annual “health check” to
ensure you are on the path to a safe and healthy future.
Completing the PHA only takes minutes, and feedback is provided
instantly. The personal results are completely confidential and are for
your benefit. The collective results will aid the department of human
resources by providing the necessary insight to develop future wellness
programs for the PC community. This tool will be available from
October 18 th to November 18 th . Please go to
http://www.providence.edu/hr/employees/Pages/default.aspx and
click on the link for PHA Instructions to get started.
Don’t Forget to Take Your PHA!
