PRESIDENT’S REPORT This past season has seen somewhat of a change in the Club’s financial position with our debt increasing at a steady rate. The raffle after Christmas was very successful and the fifteen thousand dollars raised gave a much needed boost to the Club’s bank account. I would like to thank Roland Phillips, Wayne MacKenzie, Patrick low and the Junior Committee for their hard work in making sure that the raffle was a success. Many thanks to those businesses that contributed so generously with their prizes (Air Tahiti Nui, Norman Ross, Wardrobe World, Alron Enterprises, Harvey Norman, and Arkon Print. The Club is once again indebted to our major sponsor HRV for their very generous support and hopefully the relationship with HRV will continue into the future. I would also like to personally thank our other sponsors Arkon Print, Actions for Survival, Barfoot & Thompson, McDonalds Glen Innes & Pakuranga, Ron Enright Tools, Fencible Law, Heritage Tiles, Kilimanjaro Dental, Manukau Hyundai, Specsavers Botany and Pakuranga, Strategic Advice, Jonathan Masters – Urologist and Zaveri Orthodontic and Periodontic Centre. We as a Club are grateful for your generous support. Clubs like ours cannot function properly without support such as yours. Our Club golf day run by Nigel Scott was once again very successful raising $1300. This event has now become a permanent fixture on the Club’s calendar and one that allows our past and present members to meet sponsors and enjoy a game of golf in relaxed surroundings. Whilst this past season did not produce a premier title in either the two-day, one-day or T/20 competitions the side is to be congratulated for the good effort that they put in. Ably led by Andrew de Boorder the side is always at a disadvantage to other clubs in that we lose a number of players to the Auckland rep team. Congratulations go to Kyle Mills on once again attaining New Zealand honours in the one-day and T/20 series. Also congratulations to Colin de Grandhomme on making his Black Caps debut in the series against South Africa. Once again we had a number of players in the Auckland Aces side: Kyle Mills, Colin de Grandhomme, Andrew de Boorder, Colin Munro and Mitchell McClenaghan, with Donovan Grobbelaar representing the Auckland A team. Congratulations to you all. The president’s side was successful in winning that championship once again and congratulations to all players that played in the side throughout the season. Our second presidents’ side also enjoyed a successful season. Both of these sides provide a vital need for those players over the age of thirty five who want to enjoy a game of cricket and it is hoped that we will continue to have two very competitive sides in that competition. The junior division of the Club under the direction of Patrick Low continues to be strong. The Club is indebted to those parents that give selflessly of their time to organising the many teams in this section of the Club. Patrick is resigning as Chairman of the junior division and I would like to take this opportunity to thank him for all the hard work that he has put into this position over the past few years as well as his role as grade LO. This is sometimes a thankless and unrewarding task that sometimes goes unnoticed. Once again Wayne MacKenzie as Club Captain led the senior section of the Club with the end of the season prize giving being a huge success. Wayne’s hard work and dedication to the Club are an inspiration to all. Our Coaching under Dipak Patel continues to go from strength to strength and it is a pleasure to see so many current and former HPCC members playing first class cricket around New Zealand that have been coached by Dipak at some stage during their careers. 6
Once again Graham Dennis and his Board had another busy year. Roland Phillips continued to carry out his many duties as General Manager and our thanks go to Roland and also to Virginia Hughes who does a great job with our financial accounts. This year saw the resignation of our Administrator, Angela Dunn. I would like to thank Angela for her efforts over the past 6 years and the Club wishes her well in her future pursuits. Angela has been replaced in the Administrator role by Pam Phillips. The Club’s congratulations must also go to two of our life members. Our Patron, Graeme Leggat, on receiving the Queens Service Medal (QSM) honours for services to the community, and to Nick Craig on receiving NZ Cricket’s Sir Jack Newman award for services to junior cricket and administration. These two honours are just recognition for two of our Club members who have worked tirelessly for others over many years. I believe that 2012/13 is going to be one of our most difficult years yet. Funding from gaming trusts to all sports clubs appear to be “drying up”. Funds have to be obtained elsewhere i.e. sponsors. Sponsors are not easy to find and the Board is going to have to come up with some new strategies to find funding and it is hoped that the club members may come up with some ideas that can help us in this area. We must all work together in order for this club to remain one of the powerhouses in Auckland Cricket. Malcolm Haliday President 7
