HPCC LEGENDS On 31 March 2012 the Club held another Legends evening at which Malcolm Haliday, our current Club President, and Ian Shackelford, were added to the elite group of Club Legends. Congratulations to Malcolm and Ian. TRAINING CENTRE The quality programmes run by Dipak and his team show clearly in the successes through all our age groups. The HPCC winter programmes were even more focused this year and again proved to be very successful with our players again making up about two thirds of the Manukau District representative teams. The club can be proud of the success of the training centres achievements. OTHER Thanks again to Angela, Dipak, Junior Committee, Senior Committee, the Board and all the other volunteers I’ve call on, especially my wife, Pam. Roland Phillips lips Club Manager 12
CLUB CAPTAIN’S REPORT Season 2011/12 was a tough season which saw a huge number of players used and although there were some memorable highlights the season ultimately ended without any silverware, for the first for many years. Andy DeBoorder was named the premier captain and was aided by Colin Munro when on Auckland Aces duty. Both Andy and Colin did a fantastic job as did Hayden Gardner who was named the reserve team captain. The Senior Committee worked hard in the lead-up to the start of the season and this ensured we had a positive start to the season. This meant that both the premier and reserve team had largely successful starts to the season. Unfortunately due to player availability, the second half of the season was poor and very few games were won post Christmas. The Premier side was knocked out of the semi-final of the one day competition and finished 3rd in the league after qualifying for the top 4 in the 2 day format. One positive outcome was the number of extremely talented young players we have at the club. David Winn, Jamie Brown, Abrar Alam, Chris Lakov & David Quigg all made their premier team debuts this season and contribute well on the field. A big thank you to Dipak Patel for once again providing excellent coaching and support to the senior club. The captains of the other two day teams, David Balme and Michael Good deserve great credit for the large number of last minute changes to their teams that they suffer. Yet they are still are able to put out a team and continue to be competitive. They do a great job for the club and spend many hours organising teams behind the scenes. Another thanks to Syd Noble for stepping in to help out throughout the season as well. Recruiting new players is an area in which we struggled to make any headway. Disappointingly we suffered a high level of attrition and retirements at the conclusion of the 10/11 season and this was reflected in our poor showing in the second half of the season. A highlight was the successful integration of 10 or so under18 players that enjoyed stepping up to the senior ranks and some promising potential was shown. A problem area for the senior club has been around the collection of outstanding fees, with the introduction of the new player charter that players will need to sign before they play, we hope to avoid any ongoing issues in this area with the no pay no play policy across the senior club. This year also saw a lot more of our senior players coming back and sticking around after match-days to celebrate achievements on/off the field and has contributed to an improved club culture. Once again we hope this grows further for the 2012/13 season and Thursday nights can become a focal night at the club. Thanks to Nigel Scott and Jeremy Andrews/Richard Keene for the trouble free running of the president grade. One big positive to come from the season was the great success of the Senior Prize giving. Following on from last year’s successful event, the night was based around a sit-down buffet dinner and awards ceremony. A largely entertaining night was had, and congratulations to all award recipients. It was pleasing to see members of the clubs U18s and Junior Representative Sides in attendance. Special thanks to Wade Johnson, Jamie Brown, Hayden Gardner, Wayne Mackenzie, David Balme, & Jacob O’Callaghan for all their hard work in arranging and planning the event this year. We look forward to more well-run events in the future. The Senior Committee has worked well together and has taken more responsibility for the running of the Senior Club.
