On the cover: Tien Hyunh, Math Secondary Education
Tien Hyunh is a Delaware Tech student studying Math Secondary Education. A 2010 graduate of
Glasgow High School, he says he chose Delaware Tech for its proximity to home, its financial value,
and its great math program. He plans to continue his education and earn a Bachelor’s after he
completes his Associate’s degree at Delaware Tech. Tien maintains a 3.5 GPA while also playing on
the school’s men’s soccer team. “There is no other experience like being a part of a soccer team in
college, so I just appreciate and enjoy every moment of it,” he says, noting that the sport helps him
grow both physically and mentally. Being part of the team also motivates him to do well in school
so he can continue to play on the team.

What is a Learning Community?
Learning Communities enable students to take two or more courses together in a collaborative environment. Linked by faculty around common themes or content, these
courses fulfill degree requirements, and students benefit by making important connections between courses. Hands-on activities, team projects, study groups, field trips
and smaller classes allow students to develop relationships in a supportive atmosphere that leads to academic success. Students must register for all classes within a
Community.
Spring E-learning
Attention E-learning students
Plan ahead! Course materials for e-learning classes must be purchased from the bookstore at the
campus where the class originates. Materials from campuses other than your home campus must
be ordered by your home bookstore in advance, and arrangements must be made for pick-up or
delivery. Don’t wait, or you may not have the materials when class starts.
ONLINE courses
Access expanded offerings right from your home!
Delaware Tech’s online courses are a learning option for independent, self-motivated students. They are for students
who have little time to come on campus for courses or who have travel constraints. Online courses are of the same
quality and rigor as on-campus courses. They are most appropriate for you if you are self-directed and have at
least moderate computer skills. You will need access to a computer and an Internet provider. Suggested minimum
hardware/software requirements are a 56 bps modem, Pentium II processor, 32 megs of RAM, standard version of a
word processor, up-to-date virus protection program, and course software. Students are responsible for having all
the required hardware/software prior to class. Online courses are instructor-led courses (not self-paced) delivered
entirely in a password-protected, Web-based format. They include a course Web page, instructor and student e-mail,
and discussion sessions. Instructors post the course work, including assignments, to the course Web page. Students
participate in electronic discussions and complete assignments. Testing is offfered online or at approved sites. Students
can access their courses through MyDTCC, using their college e-mail user-name and password. All OAT and CIS
students should verify hardware/software requirements with their instructors prior to registration.
Spring E-learning
distributed learning courses
Courses are on CD and use a tutorial-style program at a computer
Distributed learning courses other than telecourses require students to meet on campus for 50% of scheduled
classes. The remaining time will be spent by students accessing course material, engaging in learning activities or
interacting through the instructional management system. Students taking a distributed learning course will need
access to a computer, e-mail, the World Wide Web and various computer software.
