YMCA Diabetes
Prevention Program
Did you know that
diabetes is a global
epidemic?
An estimated 21 million
Americans have diabetes,
but another 41 million
people have the pre-diabetic
condition of high blood
sugar, putting them at high risk
for developing the disease in the
future. Diabetes is a leading cause
of heart disease, stroke, blindness,
kidney disease and nerve damage.
Do you wonder if you could get diabetes?
Before developing diabetes, people usually have “prediabetes”
– a condition where blood glucose (sugar) levels are
higher than normal, but not high enough for a diagnosis of
diabetes. The good news is that we now know how to prevent
diabetes in people with pre-diabetes.
What is the NEXT STEP?
We offer a 16-week course that focuses on reducing your risk
for developing Type 2 Diabetes by reducing your current
weight by 5-7% and by increasing your physical activity to
150 minutes per week.
Please contact Shana Ross at
sross@indymca.org or 266-9622
if you are interested in participating in the class.
The Jordan YMCA would like to thank all who have helped thus far with our 2009 Strong Kids Campaign! With your
help, we will reach our goal of $191,000 to help kids and families in our community participate in YMCA programs,
camps, activities and membership. At the YMCA, no child or family is turned away because of an inability to pay. 100
percent of each contribution goes toward this cause. To participate in our 2009 campaign, simply stop by Member
Services or ask any staff member how to make a difference in the lives of those around us or contact Chris Butler,
Community Executive Director, at 253.3206 x226.
There are many ways to give to our Strong Kids Campaign:
• Make a one-time gift payment.
• Pledge a gift ... we can bill monthly, semi-annually or annually, or you can make monthly
payments from your checking account or with a credit card.
The individuals and companies listed below have donated at the $250 level and above in 2009.
A complete list of all donors will be published in the Annual Report. Thank You to All Who Have Helped!
