Graepel-Diamond/
Graepel-Cone
(pages 22–23)
These two graitings with closed
surface are used in industrial
and public areas where
technical functionality meets
architectural demands indoors;
on one hand a certain degree of
anti-slip safety and displacement
area must be provided, on
the other hand one should not
be able to look through the
gratings, objects are not to fall
through them and the gratings
should be suitable for “fine”
shoes.
Graepel-Round A
(pages 28–29)
The small perforations are ideal
for preventing small objects from
falling through. Ideal for
walkways and stairs in either
public or industrial areas.
Graepel-Round B
(pages 30–31)
These perforations are safe and
comfortable underfoot making
the grating ideal for internal and
external pedestrian walkways
and stairs in public areas.
Graepel-Rubber Stud
(pages 24–25)
A Graepel safety grating that is,
thanks to its rubber studs, as
quiet as a mouse. With its good
anti-slip characteristics and
attractive appearance, it is a
popular choice for stairs and
surfaces in modern interior
installation.
Graepel-Round C
(pages 32–33)
This grating has an aesthetically
pleasing round perforations and
is ideal for internal walkways.
Graepel-Round F
(pages 26–27)
This grating is suitable for a
range of purposes including
internal or external walkways
and stairs in industrial areas.
Technical Advantages
1 Good anti-slip properties, due to gripping
surfaces. The anti-slip properties are tested by
the BGIA (Berufsgenossenschaftliche Institut für
Arbeitsschutz) comparable to IOSH (Institution for
Occupational Safety and Health).
2 Lengths to 6000 or 12000 mm:
This permits a wide bearing span and/or utilization
as walkway surface thus reducing the costs of steel
construction.
3 Lumped loads act directly on the surface. To
allow these concentrated loads to be supported, a
joint bearing width (bm) of the graiting surface
forms in the lenghtwise direction, which is related
to the width of the graiting B and the size of the
load surface.
The equation is: bm = a2 + 0.625 x B
(B= graiting width: a2 = length of load surface in lengthwise
direction of the grating)
4 The unperforated edge assumes the function
of an upper boom for the static cross section.
5 The inward edge fold forms the lower boom
of the static cross section.
6 The material thickness (2.0/2.5/3.0/3.5 mm)
is taken into account in calculating the
load-bearing capacity.
2
3
1 4
7 Widths depending on surface
(see standard dimensions)
8 The load bearing height (H)
(30/40/50/75/100 mm) e.g. increasing from 40 to 50
or from 50 to 75 mm results in a greater increase in
the load bearing capacity than increasing the
material thickness from 2.0 to 3.0 mm (which also
raises increases the amount of material required
and the dead weight of the gratings by 50%).
A “light” element, on the other hand, increases
the useful load within the static framework as a
whole and simplifies handling and installation.
Load types
Preliminary remarks to the table
on the following pages
The metal profile gratings are dimensioned for the
elastic material region. In this, either dimensions
are taken considering the permissible stress of the
material or considering the permissible deflection.
The table values always consider the least
advantageous value.
The permissible deflection of the “metalprofile
grating” beam is L/200, where L is the support
width.
In the case that greater deflections are permitted,
then the deflection is to be calculated with the aid
of the areal moment of inertia of the individual
grating type according to the normal structural
calculations.
For gratings lying next to each other, the deflection
of the loaded individual gratings must be bolted
together. A bolt spacing of approximately 500 mm
recommended.
The following loads can occur.
a) vertikal on the surface of the grating effective
2
uniformly distributed load in kN/m
b) effective vertical concentrated load in kN
effective over the whole grating width distributed
on a surface area of B x 0,2 m. Here the concentrated
load is to be placed in the most disadvantageous
position.
c) effective vertical lump load in kN acting on a
surface area of a 1x a 2. The sizes of the loads and
the long effective surface can be determined from
DIN 1055 sheet 3 or DIN 1072.
Uniformly distributed load
Only the unperforated area of the two sides is taken in
account. In the static cross section values for the long direction
of the grating.
load Q:
Q =
whereaby:
B x L
Q = Distributed load for a grating [in kN/m 2 ]
Fq= Replacement load from table with reference
to the support width [in kN]
B = Grating width [in mm]
L = Support length [in mm]
Calculation example: (dimensions in mm)
Material: DD 11 Material thickness: S = 2.5
Edge height: H = 40 Support length: L = 1250
Table value: Fq = 2.52 kN
Grating width B = 240 mm
10 6 x2.52
Q =
240 x 1250
= 8.40 kN/m 2
Determination of the permissible
concentrated load
The value of the permissible concentrated load
with reference to the material, material thickness,
edge height and support width can be read directly
from the tables.
This assumes that the load surface acts over the
whole grating width B then the load values of the
table “lump load” must not be exceeded. Decisive
is the lower value.
Load increases
1. When placing the grating over serveral supports
(continuous beam), the permissible loads can be
increased according to normal structural calculations.
2. If the gratings are bolted together such that the
load only acts on the middle grating, then the
permissible load values from the table can be
doubled.
Ten times the lump load bearing capacity than (for example)
gratings with round perforations
The safety grating Graepel-Stabil S obtains its load-bearing capacity
from the strong surface profiling which has a height of 20 mm. •
Depending on grating width (B), material thickness (S), load area
Graepel-Stabil
This safety graiting has become a classic and can
be used universally on floor surfaces, walkways
and stairs.
• high anti-slip effect on 45 mm olive shapes,
wide displacement space and an enormous
drainage effect for objects less than 15 mm
in dimension (a ≥ 15 mm ball will not drop
through the safety grating)
• high load-bearing capacity with substantial
advantages in steel construction
• the lateral system perforation simplifies the
installation of the grating
• the 13 mm high profiles in lateral grating
direction permit high lump loads
•
approximately ca. 50 % free holed cross section
for standard grating widths
Program-controlled
perforation groups
•
by means of tool control groups, there is the
ability to set hole and embossing punches
seperatly, this means that not only rectangular
holes can be punched
Special types
•
all Graepel safety gratings are also available as
flat banks without folded edges here, the
maximum embossed field width must not be
greater than 480 mm; these flat cuts have a
slightly curved finish
• gratings can also produced with other
dimensions (H/B/L) than those shown above
• gratings with unperforated edges or surfaces
on one or both front surfaces are also possible
• we are at your disposal for futher technical
This grating is distinguished by its pratical design
and high load bearing capacity and is especially
recommended for floor areas in industrial plants
• high load-bearing capacity with substantial
advantages in steel construction
• the lateral system perforation simplifies the
installation of the gratings
• the 16 mm high profiles in lateral grating
direction permit high point loads
•
approximately 28 % free perforated cross section
for standard graiting widths
Special types
•
all Graepel safety gratings are also available as
flat banks without folded edges here, the
maximum embossed field width must not be
greater than 480 mm; these flat cuts have a
slightly curved finish
• gratings can also produced with other
•
•
dimensions (H/B/L) than those shown above
gratings with unperforated edges or surfaces on
one or both front surfaces are also possible
we are at your disposal for further technical
Graepel-Round S
The Graepel-Round S is a universial grating for
use on floor surfaces and treads;
•
•
•
it possesses good anti-slip properties and a
good drainage effect;
the lateral system perforation simplifies the
installation of the gratings
approximately 19% free perforation cross
section for standard grating widths
Program-controlled
perforation groups
•
by means of tool control groups, there is the
ability to set perforating and embossing
punches seperately, this means that not only
rectangular holes can be punched
Special types
•
•
•
•
all Graepel safety gratings are also available as
flat banks without folded edges here, the
maximum embossed field width must not be
greater than 480 mm; these flat cuts have a
slightly curved finish
gratings can also produced with other
dimensions (H/B/L) than those shown above
gratings with unperforated edges or surfaces
on one or both front surfaces are also possible
With its good drainage and adequate displacement
space, this safety grating is used mainly for
pre-assembled components such as
• scaffolding planks and stepboards and ladders
for trucks and industrial vehicles
• the lateral system perforation simplifies the
installation of the grating
•
the upwardly punched holes ensure a good
anti-slip effect and displacement; the downward
punched holes increase displacement
A safety graiting that is particularly suitable for
pedestrian traffic as well as for industrial uses
such as canteen kitchens and abattoirs:
• anti-slip with sufficient displacement space
and good drainage effects; easy to clean
• very good screening effect e.g. for stairs and
bridges
• the lateral system perforation simplifies the
installation of the grating
•
the upward punched perforations ensure a
good anti-slip effect and displacement and
drainage
Graepel-Diamond and Graepel-Cone
These two gratings are used with closed surfaces
in industrial and public areas.
• where “technical utility” has to meet certain
architectural requirements
• where “compromises must be made” i.e.
where certain amount of anti-slip and
displacement space are required and where the
view between two levels must be prevented,
where nothing must drop through and where
good shoe-ware is worn
grating is ideal for indoor
• the lateral system perforation simplifies the
installation of the gratings
Special types
•
all Graepel safety gratings are also available as
flat banks without folded edges here, the
maximum embossed field width must not be
greater than 500 mm for cone and 750 mm for
diamond forms, these flat cuts have a slightly
curved finish
• gratings can also produced with other
gratings with unperforated edges or surfaces on
one or both front surfaces are also possible
Note: The values are calculated for gratings which are supported over their whole length. For a given span width, the
values stated in this lump load table must not exceed those given in the concentrated load tabel.
For stainless steel the values in the table must be multiplied by a factor of 1,04 or for EN AW 5754 by a factor of 0,75.
* For smaller gratings than 200 mm the lump load is added to the neighboring gratings corresponding to the portion of the
load area.
Graepel-Rubber Stud
A Graepel safety grating that becomes a “silent
walkway” due to its rubber studs
• the anti-slip effect and its optical refinements
have made this a favourite product for stairs
and surfaces in modern interior finishes
• the lateral system perforation simplifies the
installation of the gratings
• the gratings can also be provided with red
studs on request
• because of danger of slipping, their external
utilization is not recommended
• studs unhitched enclosed
Special types
•
all Graepel safety gratings are also available as
flat banks without folded edges; here the
maximum embossed field width must not be
greater than 480 mm (the plates rest on the
rubber studs)
• gratings can also produced with other
•
•
dimensions (H/B/L) than those shown above
gratings with unperforated edges or surfaces
on one or more front surfaces are also possible
