usually on thin, dry soils. Fair palatability to livestock.<br />
Rhizomatous half-shrub adapted to a wide variety of soils from 2,500 – 9,000 ft.<br />
Establishes quick and easy, even on harsh sites. Fair <strong>for</strong>age value to livestock.<br />
Drought tolerant. Many species and growth <strong>for</strong>ms available from tall shrubs to mat<strong>for</strong>mers.<br />
Request seed harvested in similar environmental conditions. Important <strong>for</strong><br />
<strong>for</strong>age and cover and winter livestock browse.<br />

Golden currant (R. aureum) adapted to fertile, moist sites from 3,500 – 8,000 ft.<br />
Wax currant (R. cereum) and mountain gooseberry (R. montigenum) prefers drier<br />
sites from 2,500 – 9,500 ft and 7,000 – 11,500 ft, respectively. Berries important <strong>for</strong><br />
wildlife.
