True or False - In Sri Lanka, many years ago, the law required all women to prostitute themselves before marriage.
False. In Tibet, however, this was seen as a way to gain sexual experience prior to marriage!

Back To Work
If you should be strolling through the
South Street neighborhood some fine fall
evening that happens to be Wednesday,
you may happen upon one of the PAS-
SIONAL meter maids flitting through
the streets after 5PM.
You see, parking in Center City is free
on Wednesday evenings after 5PM,
and that includes all of the South Street
neighborhood. But you would never
know it since there are no signs posted
or reminders of this little-known fact.
PASSIONAL proprietrix Kali Morgan
serves on the board of the South Street
Head House District, who asked for help
spreading the word
Step in the Meter Maids, who often
happen to be some local exotic celebrities
who get dressed up as French maids
and bag the meters with signs reminding
visitors that they do not have to feed the
meters.
So pay heed to the message of the Meter
Maids! Park for free with reckless
Back To Work
Scottie Lowe started her own “builda-smut”
storywriting service in 2004
because she was desperate to find
erotic material that represented her
full sensual expression. AfroerotiK
began as a vehicle to demystify, arouse,
and enlighten. As soon as the virtual
doors opened last year, the requests for
personalized fantasies started pouring in
from spouses and significant others that
wanted to get the perfect gift for their
partners as well as from individuals that
wanted to get a fantasy catered to their
specific, oftentimes extreme, desires.
It soon grew to be a medium that gave
individuals validation that their fantasies
were healthy and a phenomenal portal to
greater intimacy in relationships.
AfroerotiK.com is the only place you
can find personalized and customized
Ebony and interracial erotic stories. Just
provide the details of a fantasy and some
personal information and AfroerotiK will
create a one-of-a-kind erotic story that
The Meter Maids Are Back To Work...
abandon any Wednesday after 5PM.
And if you see a sexy maid out doing
her job, use the money you would have
dumped into the meter to buy the girl a
drink!
CRASH! BANG! BOOM! In other
South Street news, Zipperheadʼ s staff is
back to work after the store was forced
Black Studies And Beyond
will arouse and stimulate like nothing
else. Fantasies cum printed and bound in
their own unique book on gorgeous paper
that makes a perfect gift to share with a
loved one These are not just stories with
names changed to incriminate the guilty,
they are created around you, for you,
about whatever your little heart desires.
AfroerotiK will take any preference, any
wish (barring outright abusive acts) and
and weave an erotic tale of unimagined
ecstasy. There are certainly no limits
on who can order a personalized story
as evidenced by the fact that the most
requested fantasies involve interracial
couplings. Now, the myths that made
interracial sex something forbidden and
taboo can be smashed without the use
of racial slurs or offensive depictions.
AfroerotiK also offers e-cards that
showcase every gender and racial
preference, a forum to discuss issues of
Black sexuality and culture and so much
more. If you are looking for a taste of
to relocate AND change the name of the
business (you guessed it: the new name
is Crash! Bang! Boom!) You now must
go around the corner to 528 S. 4th St.
to shop for the same famous selection of
Zipperhead T-shirts and punk rock fashions
from the same stylinʼ kids who have
been running the shop for years.
something different and unique that
stimulates you to your core, http://www.
afroerotik.com/ is the destination.

Recess is calling....
Peel out of your school clothes!
Philly fitness instructor and choreographer
Nicki Radick is bringing sexy new moves
to fitness this fall with her new
Striptease Workout!
Nicki promises to help students transform
their bodies with seductive, sultry and
sweat-nasty moves set to the hottest music.
But this is no joke -- you will feel the
burn in your abs, you will tighten that
tush and strengthen your legs while you
unleash your inner sex goddess. The class
Regardless of whether you are an aspiring
professional or just somebody looking
for some private fun at home, exotic
dancing is fast becoming an international
obsession. North American Exotic Dance
Champion Fawnia has produced a series
of videos on specific moves and routines
that will make any witness hot for your
trot! Watch and learn for fitness, for entertaining
your partner, or simply for improving
your self-confidence! Each DVD
is $29.99 (order all 4 titles for just $99.99)
or VHS versions can be ordered special
for $19.99 each from www.passionalboutique.com.
Vol. 1: Pole Work Whether you are just
starting out or preparing
for a contest, Pole Work
Volume 1 is the video for
any dancer who is serious
about developing a
knockout performance!
Learn safe warm-up and
stretching techniques,
how to gracefully perform
over 30 pole moves
with step-by-step, correct
Striptease 101: Peel Out of Your Uniform
is geared for all fitness levels. Go ahead,
take it off! All ya gotta bring to class is
yourself... dressed to undress of course.
SWEAT gym provides the sticky mats,
and students are advised to prepare for
some dollar-making fun!
Nicki Radick started teaching kickboxing
and moved into hip-hop fitness classes
over several years before she got hot
watching Carmen Electra performing
her moves in a B-rated movie!
Students who have taken the class are raving
about the naughty fun they have had
while sweating more than they thought
they would (once Nicki got them to shed
their shirts and hair ties, leaving them clad
in messy hair and stomach-baring sports
bras). Nicki promises a new routine each
month, with moves and personal touches
added every week. This isnʼt a dance class
where you are required to mimic the instructor;
it is merely a tool to guide your
movements to influence the wild side of
each student while giving them a great
workout at the same time. The moves are
body and hand positions plus
“follow-up” moves for your pole techniques!
Vol. 2: Dance Moves and Floor Work
will show you moves to
get noticed, regardless
of your current dance
ability and future goals.
This 45-minute video is
a first of its kind, and
features two sample
performances by Fawnia!
Learn basic moves
to make while “traveling,”
working “on the spot” or performing
a floor show plus key points for winning
over an audience, spins,
and stretching for extreme
flexibility.
Vol. 4: Lap Dancing
and Entertaining Your
Man Whether you are an
exotic dancer or looking
for a new way to treat
your lover, this 60 minute
video will teach you
easy -- each student gets individual attention
throughout class.
Says Nicki, “I love bringing out this side
of my clients, getting them to have fun
and also letting out my own stripper wannabe.”
Striptease Workout! is offered at two
Sweat locations: Main Street Manayunk
Wednesdays 6:45-7:30 pm and Queen
Village, 5th and Passyunk 6:30-7:30 pm.
Fantasy Feasts
GET UP!!! YOUʼRE GONNA
MISS THE BUS!!! Itʼs your
mamma here and you best get
your lazy bones out of bed because
itʼs time to begin the daily grind
again. I donʼt want my baby eating
old, soggy fish sticks, mushy tater
tots, flaccid hot dogs
or any other grade-
F crap, so I packed
you a bag full of
irresistible treats to
take to school. You
wonʼt want to trade
with anyone sitting
at your table, unless
theyʼre wearing
fishnets! Instead of
wallowing in poor
nutrition, youʼll be
able to get off and get
going for the rest of
the day.
Whatʼs in that box
you ask? Peanut
butter and jelly again,
a fruit roll-up, perhaps
a stale cookie or a
piece of fruit thatʼs
seen better days? Not
for my baby. For you,
I stuffed mozzarella,
arugula, basil
and spicy brown
mustard between
two slices of focaccia.
Bi the way, ever wonder why spicy
brown mustard tastes so good on
a nice hard pretzel? Mustard is a
very powerful aphrodisiac known
for stimulating the sexual glands
and increase desire. Arugula, also
known as rocket seed, has been
blasting people off into orbit since
Bodacious Brown Bagginʼ
the first century A.D. and basil is
said to create an overall sense of
well-being for body and mind. Now
whoʼs gonna get lucky enough to
share your sandwich?
I also have for you a plump, juicy,
red apple sliced into thick chunks
with luxurious marzipan spread,
which is an almond paste. The
aroma of almonds inspires passion
in a female. Youʼll also find a
container of chianti-soaked cherries
and pears that will help you relax
just enough to get through Mrs.
Blowʼs class.
True or False - In London, itʼs illegal to have sex on a parked motorcycle. True
Your thermos contains a freshbrewed
caffrodisiac treat. A triple
shot of espresso to keep it up the
rest of the day mixed with a steamy
froth of cream to help soften the
blow and a rich drizzle of dark
chocolate on top to stimulate that
growing young mind.
Chocolate, referred
to by the Aztecs as
nourishment of the
gods, contains a weak
stimulant known as
theobromine. This
stimulant slightly
raises serotonin levels
in the brain, but does
not affect the central
nervous system like
caffeine does. Also,
the ingredients in
chocolate have more
antioxidants than red
wine, so combine a
glass of Cabernet
with a bit of dark
chocolate after you
get home from school.
Itʼll take the edge off
doing homework.
The rest of the day
will move torturously
slowly so, instead
of counting the
minutes, use your
imagination and
undress classmates with your eyes.
When the bell finally rings, your lab
partner may pull you aside to see if
you want to experiment outside of
class. Even the professor may ask
for your input. The only Fʼs youʼll
be getting will occur after class!

PASSIONAL Fitness
Adorable Abdominals
Everyone wants tight abs, but you have to put time in every day to get ʻem.
The abdominal muscles consist of three major parts: upper abs, lower abs,
and obliques.
Old-fashioned floor work is the best exercise for your abs. You can perform
these exercises at home, in a dorm room, or out on the lawn while the
weather stays warm. Note that it is important to protect your neck
and lower back while working your abs, so pay close attention to
the positioning of these exercises.
Unlike other body parts, the abdominal muscles can be worked
out every day. Good luck!
For information on personal training, private and group swim
instruction and CPR/First Aid certifications, call 215-901-2576
UPPER ABDOMINALS -- Still
lying on your back, put your hands
behind your head with your elbows
out to the side and press your lower
back into the floor. Keep your
chin about a fistʼs width from your
chest. Lift the shoulders, squeezing
from the upper abs not your head
or neck. Then bring the shoulders
back down slowly to the floor.
Repeat 30 times.
LOWER ABDOMINALS -- Lie on
your back. Lift your feet straight
up in the air (less flexible students
can bend their knees at a 90-degree
angle). Place your hands underneath
your butt and roll your pelvis up,
slowly lifting your feet (or knees)
to the ceiling then slowly lowering
your pelvis back to the floor. Do not
rock your body. Repeat 30 times.
OBLIQUES -- The obliques are the
muscles on your sides. Still lying on
your back, place your right hand on
your left knee. Turn the knee out.
Place your left hand behind your
head, elbow out. Your right arm is
extended out 90 degrees from your
body but is resting on the floor.
Push your lower back into the floor
and keep your chin a fistʼs width
from your chest. Lift your left
shoulder slowly towards the right
knee, then return to the starting
position. Make sure you twist at the
waist, not at your head and neck.
Repeat 30 times, then switch legs
and arms to give me 30 repititions
on the other side.

and boys who are fascinated with this form
of old-fashioned discipline will explore:
spanking technique, style, the impact
This dynamic duo from Baltimore visits
their Basic Needle Play. As anyone who
enjoys needle play knows, itʼs not how
many needles you put in, but what you do
with them that makes them hurt so good.
Mara will demonstrate methods of adding
tension to the needles, ways to use string
and weights to increase intensity, and how
to remove them to achieve the best effect
(whether your goal is blood or screams).
This class is sponsored by The Playground,
The Sexy Witch series
The Sexy Witch series will be seven
consecutive Monday nights beginning October
3 of discussion and ritual geared toward the
sexual empowerment of women. The rituals
will be based on the book Sexy Witch by
LaSara FireFox. It is my hope through the
magical act of these rites, that a sacred space
will be created, a space where women will be
given the opportunity to grasp and quicken their
sexual power in a supportive circle of sisters. If
you liked the book, why not enjoy the rituals
with a group of like-minded sexy witches? For
women only. Chandra is an eclectic magical
practitioner with 25 years of ritual experience.
Her background includes Wicca, Shamanism,
Hindu Tantrism, Buddhism, Western
Ceremonial Magick, and Reiki. She has also
been professionally involved in S&M for a
number of years and undertook this vocation
Slap Happy: The Pleasure/Pain Dichotomy as
Object and Concept
An exhibit of handcrafted wood implements and
the art of the written word.
As an outsider artist, Greg Killam feels that the
strongest influence in art and science is an open
exchange of ideas; that discussing concepts old
and new with a wide array of individuals is the
best way to be productive. He maintains that this
is vital now that fundamentalism is being used as
a tool to shape social attitudes. ?As far as my life,
Iʼve been fairly windblown in my circumstances.
Things can change so drastically that itʼs important
to take it all as an influence.?
Gregʼs art focuses primarily on abstract painting,
woodcraft, and written word. Yet there is an odd
gap between his functional works and his works
that are more abstract and esoteric. ?Thatʼs because
of a dichotomy within ourselves. What we
think and what we achieve are not opposites. Our
philosophies are just as important as our behaviors.?
He holds a degree in psychology and an M.ed. as
well as several professional certifications. Artistically,
he is self-taught, however he has had some
formal study. Currently, he is working on three
books which he is hoping to publish soon, and, of
course, more paddles.

MIAʼs STORY
The Feeldoe is a sex toy revolution. How
did the idea for it come about? Tell us
about the development of its design. Ah
the Feeldoe. You know that is the one item
neither Kris nor I designed that we make.
Tantus Siliconeʼs first month in production
I get a call from a beautiful woman named
Mia, and she has a revolutionary idea
— itʼs a strapless strap-on. She knew sales
would be amazing. It was our first month.
I didnʼt have distribution for something
like that yet. I gave her names and numbers
of people who did. She called them,
researched them... then waited for me to
grow us up a little. We bonded so well.
She is one of the sweetest, most creative
women Iʼve ever met. So this is Miaʼs
story:
She honestly hated to wait while her girlfriend
got all the leather straps adjusted
on her harness when they wanted to play.
Miaʼs an engineer; she saw a problem and
she fixed it. It took her almost 7 years to
get it right and patented... and then I still
had to network Tantus to be able to distribute
it properly. The Feeldoe is one of the
most secure patents around. There were
no patent pending issues. Sheʼd sat on it
(literally) for years.
So hereʼs how it works. The bulb end of
the Feeldoe has a long neck thatʼs held in
place by the pc muscle, the saddle curves
up to the pubic bone and then it starts
arching out at a natural angle. They are
now made out of a slightly harder silicone
for stability and they come with a vibrator
that fits in the end for extra stimulation.
Metis Black
www.feeldoe.com
Metis Black - The Toymaker
Metis Black went into business
manufacturing silicone sex toys in
1998. At the time, she produced artsy
designs in an 1800-square-foot space in
Colorado Springs. Over the years her
business, Tantus Silicone, has pretty
much blown up worldwide, bringing
her business to its current California
home... a 9,000-square ft. modernized
production facility.
When you were a child, what did you
dream of becoming when you grew up? I
wanted to be a researcher. I was always in
the library looking things up....
How did you become interested in sex?
My mother believed sex education began
at age two. She never hindered me from
exploring my body or shamed me in
any way. Itʼs interesting, she was very
conservative politically, but she was
socially very progressive. With SEX I was
a pretty normal teenager -- 16 and I was
in love first.
How did you become interested in the
business side of sex? While I was in
graduate school I had a friend who was
a sculptor. We wanted to go into business
together and after much discussion on
making metal furniture, we opted instead
for sex toys. Kris had an incredible
background in silicone and the more
research I did the more I realized how
smart it was.
What was your first sex toy? Your first
silicone sex toy? My first toy was a
horrible flesh-tone plastic vibe. Just awful!
I never could figure out what to do with it.
It was long and phallic and took 2 or 3 D
batteries, so I figured it went inside. There
arenʼt many sensitive nerve endings inside
the pussy (if there were weʼd have died
out as a species eons ago). I never even
thought of putting something that shape
on my clit.
Where do you see your future as a sex
toy designer/producer in a year? Five
years? Ten? Silicone is just starting to go
mainstream. Itʼs taken a lot of patience
and hard work to get it where it is today. I
remember being told, “Why would I want
to carry silicone — it doesnʼt wear out.”
Now the big boys are starting to create
their own lines of silicone. There are very
few innovations though; no one really
thinks outside the box. They just use a
different material with the same old toy.
Understanding anatomy and how a body
responds, I design accordingly. Women
are just finding their g-spot — and half
the time itʼs a hit-or-miss expedition.
Our latest toys are all g-spotting tools:
G-force, Charmer and the Clover Vibe.
My personal long-term goal is to educate
women on how to get more out of their
own sexual adventure. Tantusʼ goal is to
make tools to get the job done.
In the next 5-10 years Iʼd like to really
make a difference in the industry. Iʼm
working hard at disseminating consumer
information on health issues and novelties
(if you can smell a toy understand itʼs
releasing chemicals, you donʼt want to
place it near your bloodstream). Iʼd love
to see novelty industry self-regulation in
terms of the materials that sex toys are
offered in.
PASSIONAL Adventures
Growing Up And Growing Wise
I recently turned thirty-umsomething...and
in an effort to
combat dread of my advancing
age, started making a list of things I
know now that I didn’t know when
I was 30. And it seems like they
mostly involve personal lubricating
products.
Like, helpful fact #1: Hair gel
is not an effective substitute for
lube. Yeah, apparently not ever.
This came as a somewhat painful
shock to me, since in a pinch I’ve
used lube as hair gel a number of
times. Guess the reverse doesn’t
work as well. My most recent lube
knowledge acquisition came very
recently, when I was emceeing
Rhode Island Pride.
The pride organizers were kind
enough to give the entertainers grab
bags of gifts from the sponsors.
In my bag was a little tiny bottle
of clear fluid which I assumed,
from its appearance, to be hand
sanitizer. I was in the Port-a-John
doing what one does in a Port-a-
John and when I came out, quickly
squeezed some “hand sanitizer” on
my hands before being introduced
to the Mayor of Providence. As I
pulled my hand away from our
handshake, I realized my hand had
been extremely sticky, and when
I looked at the bottle in my other
hand, I saw that it was a small
bottle of ID lube.
Now if they had an old, sexually
repressed straight guy as mayor I
imagine he could have imagined that
I had just eaten some raspberries or
might melt in one’s hand rather
than one’s mouth. But it turns out
their mayor is a young gay man so
it’s hard for me to imagine that he
was unfamiliar with the feel of notquite-dried
lube. So the impression
was that I had...I don’t know...just
finished fisting someone in the porta-potty,
come out and, immediately
and without washing, proceeded to
shake his hand.
So helpful fact #2: Lube is not
ever an effective substitute for hand
sanitizer. And maybe this is just my
old age talking, but I have a feeling
the reverse is also true.
Letters To The Editrix
Dear Editrix:
I donʼt expect a magazine purporting to be about the art of decadence to contain articles
about Frisbee golf; a derogatory, unfocussed screed about Live 8; a gee-whiz-arenʼtmusic-festivals-cool
filler; skin care; pseudo-horoscopes; and motorcycles. Likewise, I
donʼt expect to find those articles in magazines about woodworking or wine or interior
design. Whereʼs the focus? Whereʼs the vision? Most of the content is unrelated filler
submitted by “writers” who seem to think that itʼs okay to turn in work without proofreading
it.
I get the impression that your audience is primarily about dress-up. I donʼt mean that in
a derogatory way -- to each his own. But you also seem to want to address physical SM
(and god knows, the city needs more of that). Iʼve been to the Libertine Ball and have
seen absolutely appalling, unskilled, dangerous behavior (wild flogging, percussion
about the kidneys, etc.). The magazine could address intelligent SM practices in each
issue -- thereʼs a great need for that. SM history, profiles of people important in the SM
community, how-to articles, etc.
Finally, the magazine reeks of (hold on) girlie-ness. Thereʼs a lot of cutesie-poo stuff
that infiltrates many aspects of it -- from the faux-diminutive coined terms to the subject
matter. If you want guys to take the magazine seriously, I think you might rein
that in a bit. Even the inclusion of the horoscopes is indicative of the female bent of
the magazine. Women believe in horoscopes more than men do -- most “psychics” are
women and most of their customers are women. Putting aside the fact that all psychics
are frauds who play on the mental weaknesses of others, the Starscopes column seems
to be just an excuse to make 12 disconnected snarky observations, with no connection
to the (fraudulent, ridiculous, and superstitious) tenets of astrology.
Even if all the mistakes were corrected, itʼs just a bunch of people with nothing to
say who are writing badly, and reading that kind of trivial stuff just irritates me. Take
care.
Bored and irritated
Dear Bored:
”Decadence” is more than just fetish or BDSM or sex.... Decadence involves every type
of pleasurable indulgence from food to art to sex to fantasy to anything.
The focus of the magazine (as you have guessed) is fashion, but also passion.... This
yearʼs new subtitle “The Art of Decadence” was intended to expand the focus to include
fashion, sex, fantasy, health, and art/entertainment. You are most certainly welcome
to write about SM if that is what interests you, and we will be happy to consider
your submission. Itʼs not like we havenʼt ever touched upon the topic.
We have had proofreading issues as we are a team of volunteers, and until last issue
nobody signed up for that important chore. Last month Eric volunteered, but we never
received our corrections in time to implement them. He is proofing this entire issue before
it goes to print which will hopefully mean an end to the atrocious misspellings and
grammatical errors that have resulted from chopping down stories to make space.
In my mind, astrology is “entertainment.” Many men read horoscopes regularly and
will flip through anything to find them. Like cracking fortune cookies after stuffing
yourself on Chinese food, “fortunes” may have everything or nothing to do with religion
or science, but can provide entertaining thoughts to relieve the stress of a rough
day!
PASSIONAL sponsors fantasy and fetish events with monitored play spaces. Although
many “newbies” who attend our events and havenʼt developed the precision practiced
technique of more seasoned players, I can assure you that if there were any major dangerous
activity witnessed by our monitors, they would have stepped in immediately. In
the future, you (who seem to have more experience) can support this effort by “looking
out” and reporting possible safety hazards to our monitors.
I guess I am too much of a femme to understand what men like... but I would welcome
a butch “consultant” to the magazine to help make it more “manly.” Would you like to
volunteer, daddy?
The Body Politic
Sexual Liberty And The Roberts Nomination
Certainly there are ominous signs
surrounding the nomination of John
Roberts to be an Associate Justice on
the United States Supreme Court. It
is, after all, a nomination made by a
President who is widely reported to
have promised the Religious Right
that he would appoint justices who
would take their positions on social
issues. And the fact that Roberts
has the support of almost every
organization opposed to sexual
liberty is extremely disturbing.
But is this the time and place to
make our stand to preserve the
slender Court majorities that are
so important to sexual liberty:
Griswold v. Connecticut, Roe
v. Wade and, most significant
for us Lawrence v. Texas. Itʼs a
really tough call.
It is not at all clear that
John Roberts is a Movement
Conservative on social sexual
issues. On the one hand, his
wife is active in a group that
calls themselves feminists, but
campaigns against a womanʼs
right to choose. But then
again Roberts at one point
volunteered his services in
support of gay rights groupsʼ
challenge of a sexually
discriminatory Colorado law.
Indeed, that pro bono effort
has prompted at least one
group of social conservatives
(admittedly a loony group
even by right-wing standards)
to come out in opposition to the
Roberts nomination. And maybe
any nominee that Ann Coulter has
doubts about canʼt be all bad.
Finally, of course, there is the “why
bat your head against a stone wall?”
problem. All present signs are that
the Roberts nomination will go
through the Senate like a hot knife
through butter. And even if it could
be blocked somehow, do we really
believe George Bush would send
up someone more liberal if Roberts
were to be blocked or defeated?
There is at least a credible argument
that the best strategy would be to
let Roberts go through and then
take the position that the President
has now put a conservative on the
Court, so the next nominee has to
be a moderate.
Itʼs a difficult call, and Iʼm still
thinking it through. But let me
suggest that you pay attention
to two issues during the Roberts
confirmation hearings:
First, what type of judicial
conservatism does Roberts
espouse? A judicial conservative is
one who believes courts should not
make new law, but rather should
preserve existing law, respect
existing precedents and not change
the law to achieve some social
goal. Such a judicial conservative
would not be expected to author
such decisions as Griswold v.
Connecticut, which found a
constitutional right of privacy
by looking to “the umbras and
penumbras” of the Bill of Rights.
(Griswold, by the way, is the
decision that later made possible
both Roe v. Wade and Lawrence v.
Texas.) But what does such a judicial
conservative do with a privacy case
today, now that Griswold, Roe,
and Lawrence are the Law of the
Land? Arguably, a true judicial
conservative votes not to overturn
such settled precedents. If Roberts
has that judicial philosophy, we
might expect him not to overturn
these landmark decisions, although
we probably should not expect
further expansion of the scope of
our privacy rights. And maybe
we could live with that, given the
likely alternatives.
The second issue is whether Roberts
has a specific prejudgment
of the privacy issue. While
he worked in the Reagan
Administrationʼs Justice
Department, Roberts in at least
one memo referred to “the socalled
constitutional right of
privacy.” He will be asked
about that statement, about
whether that reflects a personal
conviction that there is no
constitutional right of privacy,
or whether he simply saw his
job at that time as requiring
him to support the policies of
the Reagan Administration. If
Roberts expresses skepticism
about privacy as a constitutional
right, or if he totally ducks the
question, I for one would have
to oppose his nomination. If he
says, however, that Griswold
and its progeny are now the
Law of the Land and must be
respected, I might even support
him.
Most of my friends, the people
I respect in the human rights and
sexual liberty movements, oppose
Roberts. I am uncomfortable being
not yet ready to join them. But I have
a lurking fear that the next nominee
-- the one proposed as Chief Justice
Rehnquistʼs replacement -- may be
the nomination we really need to
block. As I say, itʼs a tough one.
