HIS / TGS Idol ‘14
If you were not at International House last night for
HIS/TGS Idol ’14 then you really missed out on an in-­credibly
fun and inspiring evening. Featuring six Pri-­mary
acts, three from Secondary, plus two individual
and four grade level performances from TGS, it was a
fantastic blend of the virtuoso and the fun.
Solo musicians and singers, a singing duet, a tradi-­tional
Japanese dancer, puppeteers and larger en-­sembles
all entertained us in the competition, with
Mr B contributing between acts. An appreciative au-­dience
stomped, clapped and waved banners for their
favourites, adding to a great atmosphere.
Judges Elizibeta, Karla and Francis provided support-­ive
comments and then had the very difficult job of
choosing the winners. We had already left behind
some great acts in the preliminary heat at HIS, so the
competition was intense. However, after much delib-­eration
the winners were announced as follows:
• Primary – Kota
• Secondary – Joshua
• TGS – Grade 12
Our champions!
And the overall winner of HIS/TGS Idol ’14 was Kota, for his virtuoso piano performance. You can see all the
winners perform at the International Festival on Saturday, 19 th April.
Thank you to everyone who entered the competition, to parents who helped prepare the students, to a
great audience who gave the night an amazing atmosphere and to Mr. B and Ms Ruetenik for their organi-­sational
skills and drive.

Business Challenge
On Friday 11th April, the G4s are doing a little business challenge. This challenge will be set in the G4 & 5
classroom. We are doing this challenge for our unit of inquiry about buying things, selling things, making
money and so on. There would be different kinds of shops like frozen fruits, smoothies, stationery and oth-­er
shops. Please don't forget your money to bring at the day. We would think ¥500-­‐1,000 will be the appro-­priate
amount of money to bring to the school on the day. We are open to HIS students and teachers and
TGS students and teachers too! Please enjoy shopping and without forgetting your money!

Hanami Picnic
Unfortunately, the weather was so bad the PTA decided to postpone today's planned Hanami cherry blos-­som
viewing picnic until tomorrow. Same place (Hakushima Kukencho Park), same time (around lunchtime,
whenever you are free), same BYO potluck barbecue lunch!
If the weather does not get any better tomorrow, the PTA will announce whether or not it will go ahead at
9am tomorrow on the school Facebook page and Twitter and LINE groups.

Meeting Recap Thursday, April 3 4 月 3 日 木 曜 日 のミーティングの 要 約
Thank you to everyone who came to the meeting at HIS on Thursday, April 4. We had another strong
turnout! Plans for the festival are entering the final stages and festival day is two weeks away. In the
next two weeks, when you are at HIS, feel free to ask one of the executive committee members what can
be done-­‐ there will be many small tasks to be completed leading up to the festival and every effort is valua-­ble
at this stage!
昨 日 4 月 4 日 に HIS にて 行 われたミーティングにご 参 加 くださいましたたくさんのみなさま、あ
りがとうございました。 早 くも 二 週 間 後 にフェスティバルを 控 え、 準 備 も 佳 境 に 入 ってまいりま
した。ここからフェスティバルまでの 二 週 間 は、 細 かな 仕 事 がどんどん 増 えてきますので、HIS に
お 手 伝 いにきださる 方 、 何 かできることがないかと、ぜひ 役 員 にお 声 かけください。たとえ 短 時
間 でもみなさま 一 人 一 人 のお 力 が 大 きな 力 に 変 わります。どうぞよろしくお 願 いいたします。
Fortune Cookies フォーチュンクッキー
Fortune cookies are for sale! Please complete the fortune cookie order form that came home with your
child. Turn the form and payment into the office. Fortune cookies will be sent home several times dur-­ing
the week. A reminder of this year's top prizes: a Roomba, Kindle Fire, and portable Weber gas grill!
Buy more cookies to increase your chances of winning these and many other prizes donated by local busi-­nesses
and sports teams!

Please continue to distribute festival flyers to friends and neighbours, local businesses, or public places that
allow advertising. Additionally, the more prizes we can collect from local businesses, the more successful
our fortune cookie fundraiser will be! Consider asking local businesses and merchants to donate a prize.
Meal coupons, gift cards, merchandise are all welcome. Perishable goods are also welcome (cakes, pro-­duce,
etc.) if they are fresh the day of the festival.

This weekend as you are going through closets and cupboards keep in mind the International Bazaar!
Clothing and shoes, books, toys, and household goods in re-­‐sellable condition are 100% profit for our fund-­raising
efforts.

この 週 末 、インターナショナル バザールに 寄 付 していただけるようなものがないかどうか、お 家
のクローゼット、 食 器 棚 、タンスなどの 収 納 場 所 を 探 してみてはいただけないでしょうか? お 洋
服 、 靴 、 服 、おもちゃ、 家 事 製 品 など、 売 れそうなコンディションのもの…これらは 100%が 利 益
となり、PTA 資 金 となります。ご 協 力 をおねがいいたします。
Babysitting Services ベビーシッティング サービス
Please contact Masayo-­‐sensei if you are in need of babysitting services the day of the festival. Arrange-­ments
must be made ahead of time; the service is not "drop-­‐in" the day of the festival. If there are no
prior arrangements for childcare, babysitting will not be available on the day.

先 生 までご 連 絡 くださいね。 事 前 にすべき 準 備 もありますので、 前 もってのお 申 し 込 みが 必 要 で

International Deli インターナショナル・デリ
Baking is a great way to contribute to festival and maximize your contribution! Cookies, cakes, and other
"to go" items can be made ahead of time to be sold in the Deli. See last week's attachment to the Crane
message for more details about the International Deli.
フェスティバルのために 焼 き 菓 子 を 作 っていただける 方 を 大 募 集 中 です。お 菓 子 作 りは、フェス
ティバル 前 にご 準 備 いただくことができるので、フェスティバル 当 日 にもお 手 伝 いに 入 っていた
だく 方 でも、 前 もって 作 っていただけると 大 変 助 かります! クッキー、ケーキやその 他 、デリよ

HIS Choir at the Festival フェスティバル 当 日 の HIS コーラスの 発 表
HIS Chorus (all students in G2-­‐6) will be performing at the International Festival!
• 14:00 Warm Up in the Music Rm.
• 14:30-­‐14:45 Performance
• Please wear your HIS Polo Shirt. The ordered shirts will be distributed by the International
Festival day.
フェスティバル 当 日 に HIS コーラス(G2 から G6 までのすべての 生 徒 )の 歌 の 発 表 があります。
• 14:00 よりミュージック room にてウォーミングアップ
• 14:30~14:45 体 育 館 ()にて 発 表

HIS PTA will be having a Hanami Potluck BBQ picnic on Saturday April 5th. The PTA will go and lay down our
blue sheet in Hakushima Kukencho Park in the morning.

HIS PTA は 4 月 5 日 に、 白 島 のダイキ 近 くの 川 沿 いにある 九 軒 町 公 園 にて、お 花 見 ポトラック BBQ
を 予 定 しております。 朝 のうちに PTA がブルーシートを 持 って 場 所 取 りに 行 きます。

All HIS families & TGS staff and students are very welcome to join us. Bring a dish to share or something to
pop on the barbecue, or just bring your own lunch if you like and come and chill out under the pink canopy
in the park. If the weather is bad on Saturday, it will be postponed until the following day, Sunday, April
6th. If it is postponed or cancelled, an announcement will be made on HIS Facebook page at 9am on Satur-­day
morning.

Minimini Gaikoku Hanami 『ミニミニ 外 国 』さんのお 花 見
One can never attend too many hanamis! Hiroshima-­‐based Minimini Gaikoku has invited the HIS commu-­nity
to a hanami on Saturday, April 12. Come out and learn about this fun, internationally-­‐minded organi-­zation!
Ms Fumiko Miyai, who has helped us out at HIS International Festivals and other events in the
past, holds several fun family events, with an ultimate dream goal of building an all English speaking theme

日 の 土 曜 日 に 計 画 されているお 花 見 に HIS コミュニティーのみなさんをお 誘 いくださいました。

ンターナショナルフェスティバルやその 他 イベントに 足 を 運 んで、お 手 伝 いをしてきてくださっ
