report of a morning
in the science mini-lab
classroom

the environment
In a corner of the SZ classroom
there is the mini science lab

the environment
Tools,
materials,
substances are
placed in
labeled
containers.
There are
instructions for
use and boards
of experiments

1° step
Before starting the activities, the young
scientists wear lab coats

1° step
Pupils in charge collect the materials required by
the experiment list
List of materials
needed
•Rectangular container
with water
•Measuring cup
containing 1 liter of
liquid
• …..
•……

1° step
Pupils deliver the kit to their classmates

Every child, in pair or in group, has his kit of material and
instruction for use, so that to be protagonist in the
experiment
Instructions on the panel

3° step
The members of the group speculate the
experiment requests …
They talk together … they suppose… they ask each other …
they compare ideas ….

3° step
The members of the group verify materials and
fill in data in a chart

4° step
Each member of the group carries out the experiment

4° step
everyone is committed and interested

5° step
Pupils observe, describe, think of explanations
The sugar is melting
fast
Filaments are
formed ...

5° step
Maybe… it’s
too heavy …
Why does it go
down ?
Pupils pose problems

5° step
Pupils check if the experiment is successful and if
not, they try to understand why …

Reports, drawings, documents are published on
the learning bulletin board

At the end
Finally, students study the
report and prepare a minilecture
given to the
teacher and classmates.
They replicate the
experiment and explain
the observed
phenomenon and their
conclusions.

But I’m not conviced …
If we change the
container …

… a new question is coming ..
pupils are ready to start again with an other
science esperience ….
