Anaphylactic Reactions
A reminder that we ask students not to bring any food to school that has
nuts of any kind in it. This includes Nutella. We have several students who
have a severe anaphylactic reaction if they are anywhere near peanut and
or nut products and may require the use of an epipen. Anaphylactic
reactions can be life threatening, so please avoid ALL NUT products in
your children’s lunches.

Congratulations
Congratulations to Isabella Ormsby and Emmisyn Milne who have progressed to the
final of the Glenorie Bakery Cup Cake Competition. The winners will be announced on
Sunday 20 November at Glenorie Bakery. Please come along and support Isabella and
Emmisyn in their attempt to win $1000.00 for our school. Good luck girls!

Welcome Andrea Bunn
Welcome to Andrea Bunn who will be completing a teaching practicum on 3/4C. Andrea commenced
at Galston Public School on Monday 14 November and will conclude her practicum on Friday 9
December. We hope that she enjoys her time at our great school!
Guest Speaker
On Friday 11 November, Galston Public School students attended a presentation by guest speaker Kirk
Watson. Kirk is a sailor who has sailed in numerous Sydney to Hobart yacht races. He is extremely
inspirational as he is blind. It was amazing to hear the fantastic accomplishments he has achieved,
despite his disability. The students enjoyed hearing Kirk speak and we thank him for giving up his time
to speak to the students of Galston Public School. Thank you also to Miss Payne for organising Kirk to
speak at our school.

Selective High School Application for 2013
Application is required in November 2011 for parents or carers of Year 5 students who wish their
children to be considered for placement in Year 7 at a selective high school in 2013. Parents with
internet access are requested to apply online. Online application will be available until 21 November
2011.
Application information is available on the internet at: www.schools.nsw.edu.au/shsplacement
For parents without internet access, application forms will be available in schools, school education
group offices and some state office locations. All applications are due by 21 November 2011.
Keyboard Concert
On Friday 11 November the keyboard group performed at our K-6 Assembly. It was great to hear the
students play a variety of pieces. The students have made pleasing progress with keyboard this year.

Helpers Morning Tea
In recognition of your valuable contribution to Galston Public School, we would like to
invite all parents and community members who have helped at the school in any way
during the year, to our Helpers Morning Tea. This includes helping in the classroom,
library, sport, scripture, special days, computers, excursions, canteen and P & C.

Kindergarten n Orientation
We had our final Kindergarten Orientation session this morning. KP & KE enjoyed being great
buddies, looking after our new kindies. They did some activities on the smartboard, listened to a story
about the Rainbow Fish and did a related craft activity.
Unfortunately the weather was not kind to us and so rather than sitting at the picnic tables the
children had to use the weather shed. Despite the crowded conditions KP & KE did a wonderful job
looking after their new friends. Our new kindies were very sensible and settled and we look forward
to welcoming them to Galston Public School next year.
Parents of new kindies can expect to receive a letter before the end of the year telling them of the
time for their Best Start Interview. All new kindergarten children will start school on Friday 3
February 2012.
Planning for 2012
We have commenced our planning for 2012 and would appreciate receiving information regarding
student movement. If your child is not returning to Galston Public School in 2012, please let the office
staff know as soon as possible, as this greatly assists us with our preparations for next year.
School Leader Speeches
Speeches for 2012 school leaders will be held on Friday 18 November in the school hall. All students
who have been nominated for election must have a prepared speech ready to present to the school
for this day. The procedures for the speeches have been explained to the students. If you have any
questions, please contact Miss Payne.
The Mudung Veggie Patch
The Mudung Veggie Patch has taken off. We have been able to collect our first harvest of beautiful
radishes. This week we are also able to supply the Friday canteen with our green, crisp iceberg lettuce.

Chickens at Galston
We are interested in acquiring some chickens for Galston Public School and are
looking for anyone who would be able to build or help with the construction of a
chicken coop. We are also looking for anyone who may be able to donate recycled
materials that could be used to build with, for example: corrugated iron sheets,
timber, chicken wire etc. Please return this slip if you can assist with this project.

Christmas Raffle
It is coming up to that time of the year again...Christmas hampers and Carols. Start looking out for
hamper fillers as you do your shopping. Items such as nuts, festive treats or even Christmas decorations
or pudding are all great ideas. These will then be made up into hampers for our raffle, so the more
items we receive the more hampers we will be able to raffle. Collection week will be Monday 21
November to Friday 25 November. Also please start sending in any baskets you have that would be
suitable for hampers.
Good Guys Support Your School Program
Remember to get your school rewards voucher when shopping at the Good Guys Castle Hill. We are
desperate for them at the moment, so if you have vouchers at home don’t forget to bring them in.

Art/Photo Calendars
Forms and payment for your fantastic art/photo calendar were due in today. For those of you that
would still like one and haven't sent it back in as yet, I will be doing a final collection on Friday
morning, so please get them in by Friday 18th
