Vacuum Gas Oils, Hydrocracked Gas Oils, and Distillate Fuels ‘Toxic to aquatic organisms. May cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment’ (R51/53) PBT/vPvB Assessment (Note: numbered in accordance with relevant CSR section) 8.1. Assessment of PBT/vPvB Properties - Comparison with the Criteria of Annex XIII 8.1.1. Persistence Assessment An evaluation of representative hydrocarbon structures indicate some structures meet the Persistent (P) or very Persistent (vP) criteria (see CONCAWE, 2010b). 8.1.2. Bioaccumulation Assessment An evaluation of representative hydrocarbon structures indicates no structures meet the very Bioaccumulative (vB) criterion but some structures meet the Bioaccumulative (B) criterion (see CONCAWE, 2010b). 8.1.3. Toxicity Assessment For representative hydrocarbons structures that were found to meet the P and B criteria, a toxicity evaluation was performed (see CONCAWE, 2010b). No structures relevant to petroleum substances were found to meet the toxicity criterion except anthracene which has been confirmed as a PBT substance. 8.1.4. Summary and overall Conclusions on PBT or vPvB Properties Anthracene is not present in this substance at greater than 0.1% (CONCAWE, 2010b). No other representative hydrocarbon structures were found to meet the PBT / vPvB criteria. 8.2. Emission Characterisation Emission Characterisation is not required because the substance does not fulfil the PBT / vPvB criteria (see CONCAWE, 2010b).
