<strong>Op<strong>in</strong>ion</strong> <strong>essay</strong><br />
<strong>To</strong> <strong>move</strong> <strong>out</strong> <strong>from</strong> <strong>home</strong> <strong>is</strong> a <strong>very</strong> <strong>important</strong> <strong>time</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> life of a young person. There can be<br />
many reasons for decid<strong>in</strong>g to leave your parents' place. Of course, <strong>the</strong>re are some cases where<br />
<strong>the</strong>re's no o<strong>the</strong>r choice than <strong>move</strong> <strong>out</strong> due to difficulties concern<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> relationship to your<br />
parents or maybe even sibl<strong>in</strong>gs. But if it's a dec<strong>is</strong>ion taken voluntarily I would say that <strong>the</strong><br />
perfect <strong>time</strong> to <strong>move</strong> <strong>out</strong> <strong>is</strong> at <strong>the</strong> age between 18 and 22.<br />
Some people might say that most 18-year-olds are way too young to be able to look after<br />
<strong>the</strong>mselves. But my personal experience has shown that th<strong>is</strong> <strong>is</strong> not <strong>the</strong> case at all. <strong>To</strong> <strong>move</strong> <strong>out</strong><br />
means that you suddenly have to take a lot of responsibility for yourself, and even though<br />
most young people do not seem to be prepared for th<strong>is</strong> <strong>the</strong>y have to <strong>very</strong> quickly, <strong>the</strong>y are<br />
more or less forced to after all.<br />
It was <strong>the</strong> same for me, basically. I have been liv<strong>in</strong>g on my own for two years now, and<br />
dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> first two months it happened quite often that I neglected some of my household<br />
chores. But fact <strong>is</strong>, you actually learn <strong>from</strong> your m<strong>is</strong>takes, m<strong>is</strong>takes like not do<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> d<strong>is</strong>hes<br />
for a whole week, or hav<strong>in</strong>g to spend a weekend <strong>in</strong> a bathrobe because <strong>the</strong>re's not a s<strong>in</strong>gle<br />
clean piece of cloth<strong>in</strong>g left to wear.<br />
Of course, if you're mov<strong>in</strong>g <strong>out</strong> at such an early age you are constantly asked if you had any<br />
problems at <strong>home</strong> that made you do so, or if you don't m<strong>is</strong>s hav<strong>in</strong>g your family around.<br />
For some people my age <strong>the</strong> thought of not hav<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>ir parents with<strong>in</strong> reachable d<strong>is</strong>tance<br />
each <strong>time</strong> <strong>the</strong>y might need <strong>the</strong>m seems to be scary or makes <strong>the</strong>m uneasy at least, no matter<br />
how annoyed <strong>the</strong>y some<strong>time</strong>s are by <strong>the</strong>ir mo<strong>the</strong>r or fa<strong>the</strong>r.<br />
The truth <strong>is</strong>, me and my parents never had any major problems, but I was an average teenager<br />
and some<strong>time</strong>s problems just couldn't be avoided. But mov<strong>in</strong>g <strong>out</strong> at <strong>the</strong> age of 16 has not<br />
done any damage to our relationship; <strong>in</strong> fact it has only improved dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> last two years.<br />
If you are all over each o<strong>the</strong>r on a daily bas<strong>is</strong> you suddenly look forward to meet<strong>in</strong>g your<br />
parents and you appreciated <strong>the</strong> <strong>time</strong> that <strong>is</strong> actually spent toge<strong>the</strong>r a lot more.<br />
It was Bill Cosby who said, "Human be<strong>in</strong>gs are <strong>the</strong> only creatures on earth that allow <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
children to come back <strong>home</strong>." For me th<strong>is</strong> means that mov<strong>in</strong>g <strong>out</strong> does not necessarily<br />
separate you <strong>from</strong> our family's support, but ra<strong>the</strong>r e<strong>very</strong>one can benefit <strong>from</strong> it by learn<strong>in</strong>g<br />
how to take responsibility for yourself, and to become an <strong>in</strong>dependent adult on <strong>the</strong> way.<br />
article<br />
"Beauty <strong>is</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> eye of <strong>the</strong> beholder", as <strong>the</strong> popular say<strong>in</strong>g goes <strong>is</strong> not entirely true if we<br />
were to believe today's beauty magaz<strong>in</strong>es that provide us with only one type of woman that<br />
can be considered truly beautiful: Slim, on <strong>the</strong> verge of sk<strong>in</strong>ny, athletic of course, with<br />
luscious lips and big sparkl<strong>in</strong>g eyes <strong>is</strong> she smil<strong>in</strong>g at us, as <strong>is</strong> she tried to make us see how<br />
easy it can be to be perfect like her.
Even though we know <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> back of our m<strong>in</strong>ds that th<strong>is</strong> <strong>is</strong> only <strong>the</strong> result of <strong>the</strong> great work of<br />
her make-up art<strong>is</strong>t and a serious eat<strong>in</strong>g d<strong>is</strong>order she doesn't admit to, most of us still desire to<br />
be exactly like her.<br />
I personally don't. Just <strong>the</strong> thought of hav<strong>in</strong>g to submit my whole life to a number that appears<br />
on scales <strong>is</strong> sicken<strong>in</strong>g to me. Beauty <strong>is</strong> a lot more that reduc<strong>in</strong>g your body to <strong>the</strong> weight of<br />
your own 12-year-old-self and a hollow smile; ra<strong>the</strong>r it means be<strong>in</strong>g confident and happy with<br />
who you are, on <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>side as well as on <strong>the</strong> <strong>out</strong>side. E<strong>very</strong> person <strong>is</strong> beautiful <strong>in</strong> some way,<br />
and e<strong>very</strong> person has some physical flaws too. But once <strong>the</strong>y learn to accept both sides <strong>the</strong>y<br />
will be able to lead a much happier life.<br />
Th<strong>is</strong> <strong>is</strong> because confidence truly <strong>is</strong> <strong>the</strong> key to strong, balanced relationships to o<strong>the</strong>r people. I<br />
guess th<strong>is</strong> <strong>is</strong> what <strong>the</strong> author of <strong>the</strong> statement has been try<strong>in</strong>g to express.<br />
No-one can bear a partner who <strong>is</strong> constantly uncomfortable with who he or she <strong>is</strong>. Especially<br />
girls put <strong>the</strong>mselves under a lot of pressure until <strong>the</strong>y are no longer able to simply like<br />
<strong>the</strong>mselves with all <strong>the</strong>ir unique features. It's a shame that <strong>the</strong> beauty of <strong>the</strong> average woman <strong>is</strong><br />
no longer appreciated. I certa<strong>in</strong>ly do hope that th<strong>is</strong> <strong>is</strong> go<strong>in</strong>g to change aga<strong>in</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> future.<br />
