Which Alice?

ALICE IN PUZZLE-LAND
"Oh, yes," said the White Knight, "they were very fine, very fine!"
"But will you tell me some?" asked Alice.
"Very fine trials," repeated the Knight. "Why only last week—or
maybe it was the week before last—I attended a trial."
"What was the trial about?" asked Alice.
"Well, I don't quite remember exactly what the trial was about, but
I remember it was about something or other."
"I would imagine so," replied Alice, who could hardly refrain
from laughing. "It isn't usual to have a trial about nothing!"
"Quite right, quite right," replied the Knight. "The trial was
definitely about something; the only trouble is that I can't quite
remember just what that something was! It seems that someone or
other had done something he wasn't supposed to have done, and so
there was a trial."
There was a long pause.
"Do you remember anything else?" asked Alice.
"I remember that there were three defendants and that just one
of them was guilty."
"Oh, good," replied Alice. "Who were the defendants?"
