MARRAMARRA NATIONAL PARK Marramarra National Park is located at the junction of the Hawkesbury River and Berowra Creek. The Park is a hidden gem in Sydney’s north where you can experience sandstone ridges and deep gullies, volcanic dykes, shales lenses and alluvial flats supporting a wide variety of vegetation types from salt flats, magnificent mangrove stands to tall open forests. The two popular but basic camping sites, Gentlemans Halt and Marramarra Creek are accessible via either walking (approx a 10km & 4km walk respectively) or by boat. (Marramarra Creek is tidal and should only be navigated in smaller boats when in the upper reaches). There are no bookings required for groups under 20 people. Note: pit toilets and BBQ fire pits (bring your own wood) in the camping grounds only; there is no drinking water and gas stoves are preferred. Marramarra National Park offers visitors plenty of recreational opportunities including bushwalking, canoeing, boating, camping and fishing. This park is suited to the more enthusiastic of park users due to its remote nature. Each spring, it puts on one of Sydney’s most vibrant natural floral shows, including native orchids, pink eriostemons, boronia and towering Gymea lilies. The reserve is open to the public just six weekends a year, on special open days around August and September, so that visitors can experience the magnificent wildflowers.
