CITY OF LOMPOC DEFINITION: RESERVE POLICE OFFICER -- LEVEL I Under general supervision, on a regular shift or assigned shift, assigned to perform specific police functions, or to the prevention and detection of crime and the general enforcement of laws and order; to perform traffic enforcement and control; to carry out special assignments in specialized phases of police work; and to perform related work as required, whether or not working alone. The authority of a "non-designated" Level I Reserve Police officer shall extend only for the duration of assignment of specific police functions. The authority of a "designated" Level I Reserve Police Officer shall include the full powers and duties of a peace officer as provided in Penal Code Section 830.1. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS: The Reserve Police Officer Level I classification represents a part-time sworn position-in law enforcement work as described in Penal Code Section 832.6 (a) (1) . A qualified Reserve Police Officer Level I may work without immediate supervision and may make independent decisions. LICENSE REQUIRED: Possession of a valid and appropriate California Driver's License. Incumbents must (1) possess proof of satisfactory completion of a POST certified Reserve Peace Officer Training Course consisting of at least 214 hours (which includes Modules A, B, and C) and must satisfactorily complete a minimum of 200 hours of structured field training approved by POST; or (2) satisfactorily meet the training requirements of the POST certified Basic Course for regular officers. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: On a regular or assigned shift, whether or not working alone, performs the following: patrols assigned areas by car or foot; responds to calls for protection of life and property; conducts initial and follow-up investigations; develops, enforces, controls, and directs traffic when appropriate; stops drivers who are operating vehicles in violation of the law; warns drivers against illegal practices; makes arrests; testifies in court in connection with the prosecution of offenders; serves warrants and subpoenas; administers first aid in emergency cases; answers complaints on such problems as civil disturbances, obnoxious animals, health code and local ordinance violations; investigates suspicious circumstances; makes property security checks; takes custody of lost and found property; performs crowd control, parade, or riot work; takes crime prevention measures and assists.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:<br />

Must have no felony convictions or misdemeanor convictions involving moral<br />

turpitude;<br />

Must meet legal age requirements (minimum <strong>of</strong> 18 years <strong>of</strong> age);<br />

Must provide verification <strong>of</strong> satisfactory completion <strong>of</strong> POST Reserve Officer Level<br />

I training requirements;<br />

Must have satisfactorily completed <strong>the</strong> <strong>Lompoc</strong> Police Department field training<br />

program and consistently demonstrated <strong>the</strong> ability to handle requests for police<br />

services and to take appropriate enforcement action on law violations as verified<br />

by evaluations completed by field training <strong>of</strong>ficers.<br />

Must periodically qualify to use firearms in accordance with <strong>City</strong> requirements;<br />

Must qualify in a background and psychological examination;<br />

Employees in this classification may be required to utilize respirators in <strong>the</strong> course<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir job duties or under emergency circumstance, and thus must be in<br />

compliance with General Industry Safety Order 5144. Employees shall not wear<br />

beards, mustaches, sideburns, facial hair or o<strong>the</strong>r conditions in such a manner that<br />

may prevent or interfere with establishing and maintaining a proper seal <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

respirator face mask. This requirement is implemented in order to insure <strong>the</strong> safety<br />

and health <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> employee.<br />
