The voice of the public, put on the walls,<br />
exaggerated without any borders and<br />
limits, these are graffitis. In <strong>Vienna</strong> there<br />
are many places where you find them.<br />
Some legal, some wildly sprayed but not<br />
legal using public spaces beyond the<br />
provided “Graffiti-Areas”.<br />
I don’t see it as my duty to judge if a<br />
graffiti is legal by means of being on a<br />
legal wall, or what the message is. For<br />
me it’s a documentation of great graffitis<br />
in <strong>Vienna</strong>.<br />
This is the first book about <strong>Vienna</strong>’s<br />
<strong>Streetlife</strong>, since graffitis are permanently<br />
renewed and overpainted, this series of<br />
books might never end.<br />

The faces<br />
Graffiti-faces mostly look<br />
funny or even wild. Here<br />
you’ll find a selection of<br />
“hot” faces directly from the<br />
<strong>Vienna</strong> <strong>Streetlife</strong> scene.
The messages<br />
A graffiti tells a story, thus<br />
transports a message. These<br />
disclosures sometimes<br />
comprise out of single words,<br />
word groups, phrases or<br />
sentences; often they are<br />
displayed as signs, drawings<br />
or symbols.
The stencils<br />
Hit & run - within seconds a<br />
stencil is on the wall, thus<br />
delivering the message. The<br />
diversion of the expressions is<br />
very wide. Here you’ll find<br />
some “straight forward”<br />
stencils, the more<br />
controversial subjects I have<br />
added a separate chapter.
The superheros<br />
From Superman to Mickey<br />
Mouse everyone gets her or<br />
his space in the graffiti scene.<br />
Wild or funny, large or small<br />
you’ll find all your superheroes<br />
in bright colours.
Controversial<br />
Some of the statements found<br />
on the walls are taking up<br />
subjects rather unmannerly,<br />
unmerciful even vicious. There<br />
are no borders, no limits,<br />
religion, politics, every day life<br />
- freedom of speech - and -<br />
freedom of thought - these are<br />
displayed here.
Simply great<br />
Great pieces of very detailed<br />
graffitis are also among the<br />
many artworks at Donaukanal.<br />
Sometimes hidden messages<br />
are found in them, some of<br />
them are simply great and<br />
lovely to look at.
