20 June 2007<br />
In a an intra party conflict, MR (±36), of<br />
Zanu PF, was purportedly assaulted by C<br />
(±49), of Zanu PF, after MR told C that<br />
their faction had bought a voters’ roll<br />
which was being inspected in the<br />
constituency.<br />
25 June 2007<br />
LK (28), the registration officer, was<br />
allegedly assaulted by MJ, of Zanu PF, for<br />
trying to explain to the perpetrator why he<br />
should go to Masvingo to pay for his lost<br />
identity particulars. LK was labelled an<br />
MDC supporter.<br />
27 June 2007<br />
Shokoni villagers were reportedly harassed<br />
by police and were also charged under<br />
POSA, whilst they were waiting for a food<br />
for work programme.<br />
Chivi South<br />
8 June 2007<br />
JM (36), of the MDC, was allegedly<br />
assaulted by six Zanu PF supporters under<br />
the leadership of the Minister of Rural<br />
Development and Water Resources, for<br />
commenting that Zanu PF party leaders are<br />
able to preach what they do not practise.<br />
The perpetrators were holding meetings<br />
with rural people, mainly youth groups in<br />
order to train them on income generating<br />
projects.<br />
9 June 2007<br />
TC (30), of Zanu PF, was purportedly<br />
assaulted by D, C and I, MDC supporters<br />
for answering an MDC slogan by shouting<br />
a Zanu PF slogan. The victim was<br />
hospitalised at Chivi hospital.<br />
12 June 2007<br />
who had Zanu PF membership cards. PH,<br />
was reportedly ordered to buy the Zanu PF<br />
membership card if he still wanted to own<br />
his farm.<br />
17 June 2007<br />
WD, EC, KM, and other villagers, were<br />
allegedly harassed by the village head R<br />
and his village police, forcing them to<br />
attend a Zanu PF rally at Chikofa<br />
Township. The villagers were told that if<br />
they fail to attend the rally they will be<br />
displaced.<br />
20 June 2007<br />
SM, of the MDC, was allegedly assaulted<br />
by JM, of Zanu PF, who is Councillor T’s<br />
security officer. Councillor T had told<br />
villagers at a meeting that anyone who was<br />
under the age of 35 had no need to register<br />
to vote as they will only go with their<br />
identity cards on the voting day. SM<br />
opposed the Councillor and was assaulted.<br />
25 June 2007<br />
RM (36), of the ruling party, was allegedly<br />
assaulted by fellow party supporter, TM<br />
(38) at Run’ai Township, after saying that<br />
aged leaders had poor sight and they could<br />
not see that things were not normal, in<br />
order for them to give a chance to young<br />
people.<br />
Masvingo South<br />
9 June 2007<br />
GG, of MDC, was reportedly harassed by<br />
AM, and BC, at a meeting for School fees<br />
top-up at Gozho Primary School. It is<br />
alleged that victim wanted to air his views<br />
at the meeting when the perpetrators<br />
started booing and saying the meeting was<br />
not an MDC rally and told him to sit down.<br />
The victim left the place because of the ill<br />
treatment<br />
by police for organising a Women’s<br />
Coalition workshop at Nyikavanhu<br />
Business Centre. The victims were<br />
charged under POSA and were detained<br />
for two days, and denied access to food<br />
and visitors.<br />
19 June 2007<br />
AC (47), of the MDC, was allegedly found<br />
with MDC materials in his home by Chief<br />
S, of Zanu PF. The victim was ordered to<br />
burn the materials or leave the village. AC<br />
refused to burn the materials claiming that<br />
he had the right to choose party of his own<br />
choice. The victim was ordered to leave<br />
the village.<br />
22 June 2007<br />
At Gunikuni village, TM, BM and others,<br />
of the Zanu PF, reportedly harassed WC,<br />
TR and others of MDC who were at an<br />
MDC rally, threatening attendants that<br />
Zanu PF was going list down their names<br />
and make sure they do not get food aid.<br />
The MDC rally attendants allegedly started<br />
dispersing from the meeting for fear of<br />
being denied food aid.<br />
Zaka East<br />
2 June 2007<br />
M, the MDC candidate for the Zaka East<br />
by-elections and Z, the MDC organising<br />
secretary, were addressing a rally at<br />
Chinorumba Business Centre, when the<br />
police arrived in a truck and grabbed the<br />
two without questioning them and shoved<br />
them into a truck. The police accused the<br />
victims of telling the people to refuse to go<br />
to elections. M and Z, were detained for<br />
some hours and later released without<br />
charge. They were told not to hold any<br />
rally till the Zaka East by-election was<br />
over.<br />
5 June 2007<br />
At Shindi village, an unnamed NGO was<br />
re-registering people for the food aid at<br />
Chief S’s homestead and only a few people<br />
qualified. TM (37), of the MDC, allegedly<br />
went to the chief in a bid to force the chief<br />
to register him. Chief C denied registering<br />
TM, and he threatened Chief C with death.<br />
13 June 2007<br />
It is alleged that a group of soldiers were<br />
going around the area distributing maize<br />
seeds and fertiliser under ‘operation<br />
maguta’ and it is further alleged that these<br />
soldiers were only giving seed to those<br />

LM, a Zanu PF Councillor, was reportedly<br />
harassed by JC, and TM, of the MDC. It is<br />
said that LM, was holding a meeting<br />
concerning the payment of stands in the<br />
rural areas when the MDC youths<br />
allegedly started harassing him telling him<br />
that they were not going to pay anything<br />
towards the stands accusing him and Zanu<br />
PF of distributing land unfairly.<br />
16 June 2007<br />
T, N, E, P and M, were allegedly arrested<br />
It is purported that G, C, M and other<br />
junior teachers were allegedly harassed by<br />
M and M of the ruling party, forcing them<br />
to attend a Zanu PF rally at Padare<br />
Business Centre. Most of the teachers<br />
attended the rally and those who did not<br />
were threatened with loss of jobs. The<br />
headmaster reported the victims to the DA<br />
and the teachers apologised to the DA and<br />
were told to attend every Zanu PF rally in<br />
the ward.<br />
