SOUTHERN REGION<br />
alleged that the councillor called for a<br />
meeting where he wanted to know all the<br />
opposition party supporters. Names of<br />
those who support the opposition were<br />
taken down and the victims were taken to<br />
the perpetrator’s offices.<br />
7 June 2007<br />
AM, was reportedly picked up by the<br />
member-in-charge of Zhomba Police Base,<br />
TZ, on allegations of possessing MDC<br />
posters. The victim was taken to the<br />
perpetrators’ base where he was tortured<br />
on accusing him of attempting to unseat<br />
the ruling party.<br />
14 June 2007<br />
CP, of Bunure Primary School and a<br />
member of the opposition, was allegedly<br />
attacked by three Zanu PF supporters, EP,<br />
GC and AM, for having relatives who are<br />
strong MDC supporters<br />
17 June 2007<br />
For allegedly supporting the opposition<br />
MDC opposition activists, DT and AS,<br />
were reportedly harassed by Zanu PF’s<br />
GC, PN and TN; all youth militias<br />
23 June 2007<br />
NM of Mavanga School was reportedly<br />
beaten up by her husband, TM, on<br />
allegation that NM was attending MDC<br />
meetings behind his back. TM found his<br />
wife in the field and demanded to see her<br />
Zanu PF card and after failing to produce it<br />
he assaulted her accusing her of supporting<br />
the MDC.<br />
Zhombe<br />
1 June 2007<br />
An MDC youth, JL, was allegedly<br />
harassed by Zanu PF youths, WS, JN and<br />
TN, after the victim met the perpetrators<br />
wearing an NCA T/shirt. The victim was<br />
asked why he was wearing an opposition<br />
T/shirt in a Zanu PF territory<br />
7 June 2007<br />
SM, was allegedly harassed by PD and<br />
EK, during a school development meeting,<br />
accusing him of trying to force people to<br />
change their minds in an effort to<br />
destabilise the government<br />
8 June 2007<br />
Opposition party supporters, KM, TZ, Mk<br />
and KV, were allegedly harassed by police at<br />
COTTCO, after an MDC rally was cancelled<br />
by police.<br />
11 June 2007<br />
Opposition party supporters, FS and GD were<br />
allegedly assaulted by Zanu PF supporters,<br />
SS, PD and GZ, who wanted them to leave<br />
the place from where they were panning gold.<br />
The victims were told to leave because they<br />
were opposition party supporters.<br />
14 June 2007<br />
TD, an opposition party supporter was<br />
reportedly assaulted by two Zanu PF<br />
supporters, SC and DS, for wearing an NCA<br />
T/shirt.<br />
16 June 2007<br />
An opposition youth, AK, was reportedly<br />
harassed by three Zanu PF youths, after an<br />
argument ensued on the forthcoming<br />
elections.<br />
19 June 2007<br />
PN, of the opposition MDC was on his<br />
bicycle when he met GD, of Zanu PF, who<br />
wanted to know where he was going. It is<br />
reported that PN, in response told GD that he<br />
was visiting a friend, but GD was not<br />
convinced and went on to slit PN’s bicycle<br />
tyres, accusing him of organising meetings<br />
for the opposition.<br />
Silobela<br />
1 June 2007<br />
JM, a local, was allegedly harassed by SM, of<br />
Nehanda village, Watson Farm, who<br />
threatened the victim with eviction from his<br />
farm, because he is not a Zanu PF cadre.<br />
5 June 2007<br />
Three church pastors, M, and others were<br />
allegedly harassed by members of the police<br />
force. It is said that the police approached<br />
the Roman Catholic Priest, Father M, and<br />
asked him why he allowed a group of pastors<br />
to have a prayer meeting at his parish.<br />
8 June 2007<br />
TC, an opposition supporter was allegedly<br />
harassed by two war veterans, C and DM.<br />
TC, was allegedly coming from work when<br />
he passed through one of the war veteran’s<br />
house where the war veterans were holding<br />
their meeting. The victim was accused of<br />
being a sell-out.<br />
9 June 2007<br />
A Zanu PF supporter, M, was<br />
allegedly harassed by D, who accused<br />
him of being a sell-out and a Zanu PF<br />
puppet. D further accused M of being<br />
a traitor, as he was seen telling people<br />
from the government that steel<br />
workers were getting a lot of money.<br />
Kwekwe<br />
1 June 2007<br />
AG, an MDC supporter, was<br />
harassed, by SJ, and four other Zanu<br />
PF members, who forced him to<br />
attend a Zanu PF meeting.<br />
8 June 2007<br />
Opposition supporter, EM, was<br />
reportedly forced to attend a Zanu PF<br />
meeting, by MK and EM of Zanu PF.<br />
19 June 2007<br />
AA, an MDC supporter, was<br />
reportedly harassed by four Zanu PF<br />
supporters, led by FN, for wearing an<br />
MDC T/shirt.<br />
24 June 2007<br />
An opposition supporter, M, was<br />
allegedly harassed by members of the<br />
ruling party, JJ and EM. It is alleged<br />
that the victim was told to stop his<br />
activities for the opposition or else<br />
they would make sure that he is<br />
stopped forever.<br />
Gweru Rural<br />
3 June 2007<br />
An NCA member, AM, was allegedly<br />
harassed by BV of Mlambo village,<br />
Shangari. He was accused of taking<br />
sides with the MDC, forgetting that<br />
he was given a farm by Zanu PF.<br />
5 June 2007<br />
A member of the MDC, AZ, was<br />
reportedly assaulted by DD of Zanu<br />
PF, after he was seen distributing<br />
MDC cards at the Business Centre.<br />
